Can we really name our baby girl this?

Hi all,

I am currently 8 and a half months pregnant, myself and DP have been going back and forth on names for a while until we agreed on this around 2 months ago.

The name we would like to use for our girl is Halo.

Our baby's surname will be Raye

Is it too out there? We both love the name but would love to know what others think.

Yes, Star Wars!

DillDanding · 20/01/2023 08:32

Atrocious.

NameChange005 · 20/01/2023 08:32

It's not the worst name in the world.

Makes me think of Kylo Ren. Are you married to George Lucas?

Same! It’s a bit Star Wars-y. Sounds like a weapon, too, taken with your surname.

mrshenny · 20/01/2023 08:34

I'm sorry I don't like it at all

Beautiful3 · 20/01/2023 08:35

Halo Raye does sound like, hello Ray. Might get said alot at school? What about Halle?

nobird · 20/01/2023 08:35

I don’t think it works as a first name but could be nice as a middle name.

Imogen Halo Raye
Louisa Halo Raye
Elisabeth Halo Raye
Genevieve Halo Raye

or names ending with an O sound instead of Halo -

Juno Raye
Margot Raye
Callisto Raye

I actually think it’s quite cool on the right personality. The problem is, you don’t know what DDs personality is going to be.
If she’s a shy introvert, she won’t thank you for it. Which is a shame really.

COPPER3 · 20/01/2023 08:37

Hello Ray!
Halo is beautiful as a middle name.
Raye is a super surname.
Hopefully you will find an alternative first name.
Good luck xxx

How about hala?

Sorry, that made me laugh. It takes me straight to Hala Madrid, Hala Madrid, caballero del honor... the hymn of Real Madrid football club, but then, I´m Spanish.

TheBirdintheCave · 20/01/2023 08:38

Your surname is a noun so that rules out any nouns as first names unless you want the child to sound like a Yankee Candle, perfume or Farrow and Ball paint colour.

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 20/01/2023 08:38

It makes me think (niche) of the Goes Wrong Show where Robert drops his halo.

MonkeypuzzleClimber · 20/01/2023 08:38

I think Halo is a beautiful name! It has a great ‘mouth feel’, and works with your surname.

Halo Jones is one of my all time favourite characters (SciFi feminist graphic novel hero), but not well known enough for the name to be too tied to her.

I guess it depends a bit on where you live. One of my daughters has an extremely unusual name (space/science/literary theme). We live in very diverse community, and it’s also not unusual for WB origin kids here to be named after mythical heroes etc. The majority of the kids in her primary had very ‘unusual’ names. Literally no one bats and eyelid at her name, apart from to tell her fairly regularly how lovely it is. She is eleven now and absolutely loves it😊

Hoppinggreen · 20/01/2023 08:38

Well you CAN, doesn’t mean you SHOULD

For everyone asking, we thought of this name over 2 months ago, so no it's nothing to do with anyone else's choice of name, I don't even follow mollie mae, we picked it out before someone famous,so not sure why you are all linking it to that.

Well if MM does name her baby Halo it will get popular and you’ll constantly be asked did you get the idea from her. I’d find a different name.

berksandbeyond · 20/01/2023 08:42

It’s a no from me.
it’s also rumoured to be the name Molly Mae and Tommy Fury are calling their baby which would put me off even more!

crosspusscrossstitcher · 20/01/2023 08:42

As long as you haven't got a relative that will constantly call her "Hello Ray"...

cheeseontoastplz · 20/01/2023 08:43

Wasn't this on the daily fail the other day as it's meant to be the name molly mae and Tommy fury are calling their daughter???

It's stupid. Sorry. Might as well call her Angel and get it over with.

DestinysGrandchild · 20/01/2023 08:45

Please give her an actual name.

And yes I know, 'all names had to come from somewhere' before anyone jumps on that.

SirChenjins · 20/01/2023 08:46

If you’re paying homage to the gaming industry then go for it - otherwise pick a name that is more about your daughter and less about you.

TallulahBetty · 20/01/2023 08:49

Hasn't this been leaked as Tommy and Molly-Mae's baby name? So you'd have to contend with people assuming you'd copied them too, as they'd be bornm around the same time.

YearoftheRabbit23 · 20/01/2023 08:50

I would stick any quirky names in the middle, and go for a more standard first name. If she decides she wants to be known as Halo further down the line, sure.

TallulahBetty · 20/01/2023 08:50

Ah - hadn't seen there were 5 pages, I can see it's been mentioned once or twice lol

PeekAtYou · 20/01/2023 08:52

I read is social media that Molly-Mae from Love Island is going to call her baby Halo. She's not announced the name but a building company local to her put a pic of a baby room on social media that looks like the rest of her home so fans think that MM was their client.

PeekAtYou · 20/01/2023 08:52

Apologies for the cross posts. Seems like plenty of people have warned you.
