Can we really name our baby girl this?

Hi all,

I am currently 8 and a half months pregnant, myself and DP have been going back and forth on names for a while until we agreed on this around 2 months ago.

The name we would like to use for our girl is Halo.

Our baby's surname will be Raye

Is it too out there? We both love the name but would love to know what others think.

Definitely not.

Call her Master Chief.

Halo Fury 😬

Halo Raye is much nicer!

I suppose if your partner if Tyson Fury you can choose your child’s name with a certain degree of impunity, confident that they won’t be beaten up in the playground for it.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 20/01/2023 10:35

Evryone would think you'd been inspired by the Love Islanders. And that would be cringey. All the 'but we thought of it months before their baby was born' protests would be pointless.

TerfOnATrain · 20/01/2023 10:35

Sorry but I work for a telecoms company.

It's unbreakable WiFi to me. After that, it's something that hovers over an angel's head.

It isn't a name, it's a bit silly tbh.

Chooksnroses · 20/01/2023 10:36

I love it.

SpaceCandyCoconut · 20/01/2023 10:36

This painting is what it makes me think of. Rays from a halo.
Halo on its own might just about be ok, but not with with your surname. Sorry.

My daughters best friend is halo, I think it’s actually a really lovely name, they are travellers though so don’t know if it’s a traveller thing and if it would bother you. Her big brothers called rocket!

MissMaple82 · 20/01/2023 10:38

Good god, no! Think of the poor child

Butchyrestingface · 20/01/2023 10:40

Halo Raye DOES sound like the one name. Similar enough to 'Hillary' for half of folks to hear it as that but different enough for the other half to say 'What? H-A-L-O-R-Y?"

MyBabysName · 20/01/2023 00:20

I guess we wanted something different. But we also don't want to make her stand out too much? We thought with our surname it may have made for a lovely name

Introduce yourself to new people as if it’s your name for a couple of weeks to see how you feel about it. Obviously not people you will know long term in the future

WigglyGlowWorm · 20/01/2023 10:42

🤮 🤮 So chavvy.

Passerillage · 20/01/2023 10:43

Love it.

SpoilerFree · 20/01/2023 10:44

I think Halo is a lovely name, but I would be concerned that it sounds too similar to 'hello' and calling for her would result in a lot of confusion in public.

livingthegoodlife · 20/01/2023 10:45

Has anyone mentioned parachuting yet?
High Altitude Low Opening HALO sadly I don't think of angels but computer games ....

Ourlittleharmonica · 20/01/2023 10:46

Halo Raye is a bit "Los Angeles Wellness Brand" but I think Hailee Raye is beautiful

ManchesterGirl2 · 20/01/2023 10:47

Personally I wouldn't, it sounds too much like "hello" or "hey".

But on the other hand, kids have all kinds of names these days. And particularly in multicultural areas, you often come across a name you've never heard before. So if you really love it, maybe ignore all this 😃

Or maybe give her a traditional middle name so she can use that later if she doesn't like Halo?

MasterBeth · 20/01/2023 10:47

I like it. Sure, it's quirky, but the world probably has enough Evies and Olivias.

I like this idea.

On reflection, I don't fancy having to introduce myself as Halo.

I'm not sure why people think a kid will get teased or have a lifetime of judgement for this name. Babies being born now aren't going to school with and being employed by people who are currently in their 40's+ and aren't used to unusual names - they're going to be surrounded by children who are growing up used to hearing unusual names! The generation above them will have grown up hearing unusual names too - it's a non issue in 2023.
DS is ten and has a classical name as that's my preference - but a name like Halo really wouldn't stand out that much in his very average village school. If your child starts school with the name Halo then to their peers it's just a name!

Pardon44 · 20/01/2023 10:52

I think it's a terrible name. I agree it sounds I've a brand or computer game.
What about

Summer Raye
Ocean Raye
Isla Raye

MotherOfHouseplants · 20/01/2023 10:53

MyBabysName · 20/01/2023 07:59

For everyone asking, we thought of this name over 2 months ago, so no it's nothing to do with anyone else's choice of name, I don't even follow mollie mae, we picked it out before someone famous,so not sure why you are all linking it to that.

It's understandable that you find the idea irritating. Now multiply that irritation by everyone you know in real life making the same assumption.

Interesting, to me Ocean is just as "out there" as (if not more so than) Halo. I guess because to me both names represent things rather than people.

tulips27 · 20/01/2023 10:57

I love it. Someone suggested "Angelica Raye, Selena Raye, Paloma Raye, Amberley Raye, Giralda Raye, Millicent Raye, Veronica Raye" and I think most of those those sound dreadful in comparison.

MrsXx4 · 20/01/2023 10:59

I instantly thought of MM & Tommy Fury and I don’t like it as a name at all. What about Harlo? It’s still not a great name but has the same ring to it that you might like?

XmasElf10 · 20/01/2023 11:00

I have a big business meeting next week and cringe to my very core at the thought of introducing myself as "Hi, I'm Halo and I head up the XXX group". Yuck. Give the girl a sensible name she can use for the rest of her life for goodness sake!
