Is this in the Kayden/Caiden/Jayden/Brayden camp?

I love the name Caleb and I'm aware it's a biblical name but I worry it sounds in the Kayden/Jayden etc name camp by sound and that isn't for me.

Please tell me I'm overthinking it!

Or I should say, you can draw inferences about the parents. A name like Thomas will appeal to all sorts of people, but just Tom or Tommy on the BC will not.

simplefree · 20/01/2023 12:07

if you love it than it is what metters?
personally not for me though

Where are the non-posh scowns to be found? I’m S/SW border and would definitely sound posh!

In the Black Country, eaten after a portion of orange chips 😂 altho DH are both from the same town, both WC childhoods and pronounce it differently. I think he's weird. My scone had a bone so I called it on the phone and it said it was alone.

Oh please, do draw us a picture of the ife trajectory of Tom, Tommy and Thomas 🙄.

You can make judgements on what social class their parents come from. That's all you can do.

And let's face it, the same name gets judged differently by who you think the parents are. It's the whole reason posters get accused of being pretentious or try hards if they pick a name deemed "outside their class" because people want to pigeon hole all Jaidens as riff raff vs the child of a middle class parent

KirstenBlest · 20/01/2023 12:42

@SleepingStandingUp, if you read my post you'll see that it said you can draw inferences about the parents

My guess would be
Thomas's parents probably like solid traditional names
Tom's parents liked Tom but not Thomas
Tommy's mother thinks Cillian Murphy is hot

KirstenBlest · 20/01/2023 12:47

@SleepingStandingUp , I would judge a parent depending on the name. The first time I heard Jadon was when a friend said she was naming her child it. She's israeli, so I didn't think anything other than it was OK.

If I taught a Tolomy, I'd think 'What were the parents thinking?'.

Luredbyapomegranate · 20/01/2023 13:53

No, it’s fine.

Pinkdafodils · 20/01/2023 13:58

If I taught a Tolomy, I'd think 'What were the parents thinking?'.

And Ptolemy'a parents might simply like the name. Teachers can think all they want Confused

KirstenBlest · 20/01/2023 14:03

@Pinkdafodils , it was the Tolomy spelling. If they'd spelt it Ptolemy, I'd not think the same.

Pinkdafodils · 20/01/2023 14:17

Scone is pronounced 'Sgone like in it's gone.

Nope. Scone like cone

Pinkdafodils · 20/01/2023 15:44

Scone should be pronounced to rhyme with Cone?!

Scown? Sgone? Some strange suggestions Confused

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 20/01/2023 15:46

Scone can rhyme with gone or bone. It's a pronunciation people tend to have very strong opinions on but there are lots of people in each camp. So two pronunciations it is!

GoAgainstNicki · 20/01/2023 15:48

What’s wrong with Kayden/Jayden names?

OfMark87 · 20/01/2023 15:55

No! It's my sons name and I've never had anyone say that!

midsomermurderess · 20/01/2023 15:57

LoafingLina · 18/01/2023 14:04

There is nothing wrong with the name Kayden/Jayden, except if you’re stuck up you’re own arse and believe you’re better than anyone else.

Yes I have a Cayden, no I am not a council estate dwelling chainsmoker with 100” tv’s living off of benefits.

People really need to get over themselves, honestly it’s a name and just for reference, my ds has never had a bad school report or been given an asbo, however Henry, Joseph and Thomas were all recently in trouble for stealing Kai’s phone.

Blimey.

GoAgainstNicki · 20/01/2023 16:11

Pinkdafodils · 18/01/2023 16:11

Caleb isn't pronounced Cay-leb? Surely it's Cal-eb? Like Calendar not Caylender?! Confused

You’ve literally made that up😂

I certainly don't think cillian Murphy is hot 🙄

Yes, scone rhymes with cone. What do you think is strange about that?

KirstenBlest · 20/01/2023 17:03

@Pinkdafodils , do you really say scone as cone with a 's' in front of it? I say it as sgon.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 20/01/2023 17:07

There have been some really weird questions (and answers) about pronunciation around here lately. I have no idea why.

The pronunciation of scone is regional. It is totally pointless to argue about it.

Quite. They're tasty however you say it.

TangledWebOfDeception · 20/01/2023 17:12

Now I want scones (to rhyme with gone Wink ).

Lovely, freshly baked scones topped with homemade jam compote and whipped double cream*. And a cup of Earl Grey tea.

<Sighs deeply>

*I know, I know. I just prefer it on the lighter side.

KirstenBlest · 20/01/2023 17:14

Still warm from the oven and with some real butter for me, @TangledWebOfDeception . 'S gone!
