How do you compromise when your style of names you love are THIS different ?!

So that basically…

My top 5 list -

Winter
posie
ceCe
Lux
Loveday

My husbands too 5 list -

Matilda
Jemima
Harriet
Louisa
Hannah

We have both vetoed each other’s list… not sure where to go from here to find a name we even like let alone love….

In this situation I'd give full control to your husband - your names list would be vetoed by me too 😂

Reugny · 08/12/2022 14:27

While I agree with the PP there are names that both of you will like.

Just look at more names.

I looked at hundreds of names looking at different country and religion name lists.

milkandmint · 08/12/2022 14:31

Cecilia? Cece for short

SirChenjins · 08/12/2022 14:33

I’m with your DH - Loveday?!

You just need to keep going - there are thousands of names out there to choose from.

Loachworks · 08/12/2022 14:33

Sorry but here your entire list would be seen as... please give your DH his choices. Or is this one of those crappy reverses?

ChessieDarling · 08/12/2022 14:34

It’s not easy when your tastes differ greatly but just keep looking, something will come up. Write down any names you think of on your phone and make sure he does too and compare when you can, one will work.
My first thought was that Cece would work as a nickname for Cecily or Cecilia. Might either of those work?
Theres a website called (if I remember correctly) magic baby names where you enter the names you like, and it suggests names along those lines. That may be worth a try as might ‘babyname’ which is like tinder but with baby names.

And I’m sorry(ish) but please god don’t call your daughter Lux.

Best of luck and congratulations.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 08/12/2022 14:34

One of those name apps like tinder but for baby names?
Would you really call a baby girl 'Lux'??

Trustmeimadoctor · 08/12/2022 14:35

Well I much prefer his list.

There are millions of names out there but I think your desire to be unique is going to make it tricky!

Movinghouseatlast · 08/12/2022 14:38

Cecelia, Celia or Cecily then shorten to CeCe. The rest of your names are niche to say the least!

FleasNavidad · 08/12/2022 14:40

Isn't Lux cheap bog roll?

Saisong · 08/12/2022 14:41

Posie isn't terrible, could you make it a nickname for something that suits his tastes too - Rose, Rosalind, Rosalyn etc

pimlicoanna · 08/12/2022 14:42

Let your husband choose! Blush

Passerillage · 08/12/2022 14:43

You have some very oldfashioned names there, which I love - Loveday, for instance, which is Anglo Saxon.

Cece = Cecilia, so also old-fashioned (which I mean in a good way!).

Lux is a name of a character from the Virgin Suicides, but also League of Legends - which direction are you coming from?

His are very "top 10 girls names 2015", but still lean old-fashioned.

So what about more unusual, but still oldfashioned names?

Eloise
Ophelia
Eleanor
Iris
Beatrice
Hero
Daphne
Calypso
Penelope
Esther

I think you’re onto something with this list!! Thank you

Your husband really needs to be in charge of baby naming. You can maybe get a kitten or something.

Callieviolet · 08/12/2022 14:47

I did consider Celia / Cecelia - that was DH’s suggestion as well. But then he said she would be ‘known as Celia / Ceceila at school, and Cece at home. Nicknames with her friends she will just make herself.’ But I wouldn’t want her to be known as Celia / cecelia at all. I wouldn’t want anyone to know that was her name . And for it just to be there for when she’s older if she wants it. Or I would prefer not to do that at all and just name her the name we call her, not a long version.
we have a friend with a ‘Hattie’- not Harriet. That’s what I would do.

That name is probably the least favourite on my list. It’s one I sometimes think is great and at other times think it’s a bit boring and too short.

Loveday? Loveday???

Please give this responsibility to your DH

Callieviolet · 08/12/2022 14:52

He was quite surprised with my list tbh. As I have a daughter (she’s 16 now. I’ve been with my DH for 10 years) Her name is Emily. So yes it’s very different to the names I like now.

It’s a Cornish name. But we aren’t actually Cornish.

Lux to me is soap flakes and the singer from The Cramps ( that's one for the teenagers!)
Loveday - please don't. I doubt she's going to be a Sunday night ITV detective, which is what that sounds like.

Eloise is nice. Or Heloise
What about Nina?
Rae?
Lilith?
Selene?

When we are at the stables and need to actually shout her name, DH just says ‘Belle.’ 🤣

Find compromises

if Lux is about light then Lucia,Theia,Chiara,Claire

if CeCe is about the letters then find an alternative like Cecelia, Cecile, Cecily

if Posie is about flowers then find a flower name Rose, Daisy

if winter is about a season then find a name from a country that celebrates winter, Freya, Nora, Sofia,Maja
