So that basically…

My top 5 list -

Winter
posie
ceCe
Lux
Loveday

My husbands too 5 list -

Matilda
Jemima
Harriet
Louisa
Hannah

We have both vetoed each other’s list… not sure where to go from here to find a name we even like let alone love….

Camilla is a pretty name, although I prefer Cam (as the shortened version) to Milla. I also like Camille.

A few years ago the names Mia and Mila were hugely popular - or at least in my circles - so I would assume Milla was a variation on that.

You listen to your husband as your list is terrible!
Please don't call your child loveday!

mintdaisy · 09/12/2022 10:54

Go with Flora or Camilla - both gorgeous and you both seem to like them.

I really do like both of those names. So Lux is a soap.. but does Flora scream ‘butter ‘ at you? That’s the only thing that puts me off. But I do love the whole name and the potential nicknames- Flo, Florie.

Camilla is the one name we both like, since we considered all the suggestions on this post.

Flora is a close second… I love it but can’t get past the butter. (And yes, I know, Lux… loveday etc so Flora shouldn’t worry me 😬)
Also now considering one of his top 5 names. Jemima. And nickname Mimi.

There's a Flora in my ds' class and I have never thought butter. I just think it's a lovely name, if anything I think of flowers.

mintdaisy · 09/12/2022 11:33

Love Jemima.

Love Jemima.

It’s definitely growing on me. All the potential nicknames I like - Jem, Mima, Mimi.
The full name is actually quite pretty.

Emily and Jemima
Emily and Flora
Emily and Camilla.

Ah OK, if one daughter is Emily you can't call the other Lux or Winter. It just doesn't work.

That said my sister (also Emily) called her first two standard top 20 classic names and her third a very leftfield one. So what do I know?

mumonherphone · 09/12/2022 13:00

Camilla does make me think of Charles and Camilla but aside from that it's ok. I would have cam/cammie as the nickname but mimi could work for jemima or camilla.

Flora is pretty and I think Flora and Fauna (so flowers, floral etc.. not the butter)

somuchtolearnabout · 09/12/2022 13:32

Camilla is gorgeous and you could get away with Mimi as a nickname which I also love

ODFOx · 09/12/2022 14:04

I think that Loveday, like Gaylord, is a very old name which hasn't aged well and can't imagine a modern teen called Loveday.
Lux seems to be used instead of luxury or luxurious all ver social media which would put me off.
Winter seems more like a boy's name. No idea why.

There is some middle ground but you'll both need to compromise. If you are prepared to go for something more classic on the birth certificate with a lovely diminutive

ODFOx · 09/12/2022 14:07

Then he should compromise that the diminutive can be used outside the home until the child chooses otherwise. It is quite common for children to start school with their 'known as' name for the first few years.
Matilda (Tilda, Tildy)
Cecilia (Cece)
For example

ODFOx · 09/12/2022 14:18

Artemis
Merida
Ingrid
Astrid
Phoebe

bloominglovelyorange · 09/12/2022 21:37

Jemima is a lovely choice

aoibhacado · 21/12/2022 16:43

charlotte. call her lottie as a nickname. problem solved.

Enko · 21/12/2022 17:18

charlotte. call her lottie as a nickname. problem solved.

Please don't do that. Both are so super dull and boring.

Camilla is nice if you both like that. I would suggest looking at the national name list around 1000 lists and find traditional names you like you may get dh on board that way.

Unlike many here I prefer your list to your dh's and dh and I had this issue when we were naming our children.

Im talking names like
Valerie
Lowenna
Joanie
Monica
Alena
Marianne
Delphine
Janelle
Roberta

but have a look and see what catches you. It's about finding your common ground. You like more unusual names he likes traditional ones. So find a traditional name that's not commonly used and get both your likes included.

Firebird83 · 22/12/2022 00:09

Flora and Jemima are lovely

winonarose · 23/12/2022 21:54

Could you use one of your names as a middle choice? Or vice versa?

schoolsoutforever · 26/12/2022 20:50

I like Loveday. It’s a real name, an old one but I’m getting from the opinions here that it would be too far out. I’m not mad on Camilla, prefer Camille. How about Lois? It’s a name I love and might be a bit of a compromise between Lux and Louisa.
