Expecting a boy in Jan!

Really liking Skip, I think that spelling is preferableto Skipp, any opinions?

Older brother is Jem

Give him a decent name he can use to go through life as an adult and use Skip/Kai/Kip as a nickname he can shake off when he is ready.

You are not naming a dog.

ivykaty44 · 20/11/2021 07:20

It will be remarked on all his life behind his back, wrongly of course but it will happen

cloudtree · 20/11/2021 07:30

Nah, it's not that out there. I like it.

What's outrageous is insulting someone's baby name choice after the baby has been born and named and when it's not been put up for discussion. Outrageously rude, even when anonymously done from behind a keyboard.

Whilst I agree that Jem shouldn’t be commented on, the pp was making a joke that 80s kids will get.

Jem is a common nickname for Jeremy or Jeremiah. I like it. I’d go for Christopher and use Kit.

foodiscomplicated · 20/11/2021 07:34

I really don't like Kai. I'm Cornish and Ky is Cornish for dog. Pronounced the same.
Skip. Ok I suppose if you were living in 1950's America. But also reminds me of the kangaroo and a giant yellow bin.

Turtles4543 · 20/11/2021 07:55

Skip to m’ loo

LumosSolem · 20/11/2021 08:15

@LostInTheColonies

If it's been used by the Rooneys, steer clear (Kai). Kai means food in NZ, so another reason to avoid it. The main male character in The Snow Queen is Kay, not Kai, and Kay is not good for kids of any gender. Crew is also terrible and Cru is even worse.

Much better, and in keeping with Jem, are
• Kit
• Hal
• Cal
• Nate

Love how you suggest avoiding anything used by the Rooney's (Kai) and go on to say how great Kit is, when they also have a Kit
Notbornwithit · 20/11/2021 08:22

Skip?? Ye it’s a bit Confused

gogohm · 20/11/2021 08:24

Sorry, no - skipper is a title or nickname meaning boss. Skip is the big metal things for rubbish

gogohm · 20/11/2021 08:30

How about a proper name you can shorten?

gogohm · 20/11/2021 08:35

@dotsandco

Not just school too, imagine the university graduation ceremony... or their cv when they apply for jobs, their name on a business card? When I worked in hr we would get 500+ applicants for jobs especially entry level and we did filter them fairly arbitrarily down to around 20-30, we obviously looked at qualifications but we also would through them out if we didn't think the name would fit the company!

Neither.

Both sound like nicknames or pet names not full names for a child.

& then HR have the nerve to pretend they aren't discriminatory 😩

This is awful.

MajorCarolDanvers · 20/11/2021 09:29

Please don't

Jesus. That's 100% a tw@tty thing to do.

Don't take advice from this person, OP

MeredithGreyishblue · 20/11/2021 09:31

@Garriet

Or even Jem. Ffs.
OMG I HAD THAT DOLL! With the changeable hair and the rock outfit! I haven't thought of her for years
woodhill · 20/11/2021 12:23

@Vanuatu

Pugwash Grin NN pug
And Master Bates

Singing tune now

Tal45 · 20/11/2021 12:42

Damn it, I read through the whole thread to see if anyone had suggested Master Bates and @woodhill got there just before me.

I use to love Kai until it became a chav name. But Finn is lovely and always makes me think they must be a surfer with a name like that. Caspian is not bad or what about Morgan which apparently means Circling sea in Welsh (according to a name website).

woodhill · 20/11/2021 14:01
Grin
ThirdElephant · 20/11/2021 14:24
@ThirdElephant I’m going to guess you never saw the popular 80s children’s cartoon.
Nope, 90s kid.

EishetChayil · 21/11/2021 08:52

You cannot call a human infant Skip.

Skeumorph · 21/11/2021 14:15

No. SpaceRaider would be better than Skip.

As for Crew. Well. You could have Motley as a nn. That's the only good thing I can think of.

Kit is lovely of course.

Kai is the new naughty boy name

Zeke would suit you.

Happenchance · 21/11/2021 18:09

Shay
Hopper nn Hop Grin

GreyhoundG1rl · 21/11/2021 18:13

@crumblebug

It's from the nickname of a sea captain

Would Skipper with nn Skip be better?

No.
Stevearnottsbeard · 21/11/2021 20:53

Skip and crew are just ridiculous sorry. I like Kai, I know a very nice one. I also think kit is a good fit with jem... Just out of curiosity,is jem a nickname for something or is that just his name?

Santaischeckinglists · 21/11/2021 20:55

What about Bouy??
