Expecting a boy in Jan!

Really liking Skip, I think that spelling is preferableto Skipp, any opinions?

Older brother is Jem

Nate is a good shout from @villainousbroodmare. Still has the American sound, works well with Jem. Jem and Nate sound like a fun duo!

SoftPillow · 18/11/2021 17:58

Im assuming, of course, that you have a strong maritime heritage.

Skip isn't great, not in the UK.

How about other nautical names:

Caspian
Poseidon
Davey
Jacques
Moby

Grin
superram · 18/11/2021 17:59

Skip is a bush kangaroo, a vessel for rubbish or a crisp. Please reconsider. Two ps is even worse.

ILoveShula · 18/11/2021 17:59

Dumpster

Animood · 18/11/2021 18:00

Kai is a bit chavvy if you ask me. (Sorry I know snobby!)

Crew makes me think of Crewe (the not very nice and quite rough town south of Manchester) or Crew clothing (preppy expensive clothes).

Topseyt · 18/11/2021 18:00

Kai is OK. Not Crew though.

Where are you? This is a UK based site. If you are somewhere like the US then that might explain the different naming conventions or ideas.

ILoveShula · 18/11/2021 18:00

I was going to suggest Seaman but someone beat me to it

liveforsummer · 18/11/2021 18:01

Neither, it’s a kangaroos name

The kangaroo is Skippy. skipper is a dolphin 😆

liveforsummer · 18/11/2021 18:02

I'd skip using the name Skip tbh. Lots of meanings, none really a child's name!

CoffeeRunner · 18/11/2021 18:02

Admiral?

Kai is fine. But not really in the same field as Jem.

ChristmasCrafter · 18/11/2021 18:02

@liveforsummer I though the dolphin was flipper?

liveforsummer · 18/11/2021 18:03

Flipper is the dolphin from the tv show. Skipper is a kids book series if I remember correctly.

AwkwardPaws27 · 18/11/2021 18:04

Kit?

eddiemairswife · 18/11/2021 18:05

Jack Tar.

Marblessolveeverything · 18/11/2021 18:08

Kai is from Lego Ninjago which are long lasting here

Greenmarmalade · 18/11/2021 18:08

Agree with Kit.

BananaPB · 18/11/2021 18:15

Skippy the bush kangaroo comes to mind (although kids these days will probably think of peanut butter)

I know a little boy called Ocean and a Blue if it's a water theme that you're after.

If it's the single syllable names that you like then there's loads like Kit, Jack, Lex, Jay...

My son has Kai as a middle name and he really likes it.

2bazookas · 18/11/2021 18:16

Skip's school nickname will be "Rubbish". Poor kid.

chonkybuoy · 18/11/2021 18:17

Neither.

Chichichiwawa · 18/11/2021 18:17

Great names for border collies.

crumblebug · 18/11/2021 18:33

Kit as in PE kit? Confused

We do like Kai, or otherwise have considered Kip

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 18/11/2021 18:37

Jem is really lovely. It was originally a medieval nn for James or Jeremy, so similar style boys names to me would be Cal (originally from Charles or Calvin), Kit (Christopher or Christian), Hal (Henry or Harold), Ned (Edward, Edmund or Edgar) or Will (William or Wilfred).

Other one syllable "nn style" names that I think might work with Jem are Bram, Heath or perhaps Drew instead of Crew - but I don't hate Kai (although I personally much prefer the Cai spelling).

Bancha · 18/11/2021 18:37

Sorry OP, it really makes me laugh that you would question Kit, as in PE kit, but not Skip(p) as in… skip. Other than that I have nothing useful to add.

Spedder · 18/11/2021 18:38

It’s a ridiculous name. I’d assume Skipp was a typo for either Skip or Skippy.

17caterpillars1mouse · 18/11/2021 18:40

Skipper is Barbie's sister. The dolls are very popular amongst primary age girls so I wouldn't name a boy Skipper
