Expecting a boy in Jan!

Really liking Skip, I think that spelling is preferableto Skipp, any opinions?

Older brother is Jem

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Tailendofsummer · 18/11/2021 19:03

@woodhill

Skippy Bush kangaroo- really showing my age
My first thought too!
Marcipex · 18/11/2021 19:04

I know a Reef (a spirited child 😉) and two named Tamar.
Skip is still worse though.

8dpwoah · 18/11/2021 19:05

@LethargicActress

Neither, it’s a kangaroos name.
Oh bum I thought I might be the first with that reference, never mind!

Also Skipper is Barbie's little sister isn't she?

GertietheGherkin · 18/11/2021 19:07

I feel so sorry for the kids when their parents give them ridiculous names. Sets them up for a lifetime of bullying and ridicule. So unfair on the poor kids. ☹️

OhMyCrump · 18/11/2021 19:08

OK OK she's moved on from Skip.

VerveClique · 18/11/2021 19:10

Op, just give your kid a name that’s recognised as a human name.

Anything else you’re over-projecting yourself, and your child WILL be judged. There are so many actual names to choose from.

KittenCatcher · 18/11/2021 19:12

Finn
Adrian
Caspian

Flowers500 · 18/11/2021 19:12

I can’t believe you’d take issue with Kit, a fairly traditional actual NAME and yet want to call a kid Skip or Crew?!? Absolutely mad 🤣🤣🤣

Flowers500 · 18/11/2021 19:13

@KittenCatcher

Finn Adrian Caspian
All lovely
8dpwoah · 18/11/2021 19:13

I don't think there's a lot wrong with Kai to be honest, it's been a reasonably common name in schools I've worked in in the last say 5-10 years. Wouldn't make me raise an eyebrow at all.

FallonCarringtonWannabe · 18/11/2021 19:13

Kai and Crew are awful.

Skip is my favourite.

ILoveShula · 18/11/2021 19:17

Cai is fine, not sure about Kai

Ducksurprise · 18/11/2021 19:18

@FallonCarringtonWannabe

Kai and Crew are awful.

Skip is my favourite.

Agree, I actually like it as a nn. Not sure what for though.
Capferret · 18/11/2021 19:24

I like Skip and Kit.

MonkeyPuddle · 18/11/2021 19:30

What about Ike? Short, relatively unusual.
I know a small child called Krew. Nope.

BananaPB · 18/11/2021 19:44

The Beckhams have a son called Cruz

DoucheCanoe · 18/11/2021 19:50

I like Kai from your choices :)

Agree that Kit is awful, never understood why it's universally popular on here when other perfectly fine names are sneered at!

My old dog was Skip and I have an Aussie friend who goes by Skippi as a nickname - I wouldn't use either of them as a given name for a child though.

Cal(lum), Seth, Seb(astion), Nate, Luke, Rex, Jude, Dev(on) are all nice single syllable names if that's what you're after?!

HolidayTime2021 · 18/11/2021 20:13

I once taught a Tray. Skip is along the same lines.

Pompypomypomp · 18/11/2021 20:23

Neither skips nor jem... Sorry op... Are you based in the UK? It could lead to bullying at school ...

DoucheCanoe · 18/11/2021 20:32

@Pompypomypomp the OP already has a DS called Jem, she didn't ask for opinions on that!

Also, unfortunately bullies will make all sorts of shite excuses for their actions - names are probably way down on the list.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 18/11/2021 20:43

Along a similar theme, how about

Dumpster Bigguns?

woodhill · 18/11/2021 20:45

Tray Bake by any chanceGrin
VenusClapTrap · 18/11/2021 20:53

I like Kai.

Kip is the name of the lovely Sikh soldier in The English Patient, I think, so good associations for me there.

SockFluffInTheBath · 18/11/2021 21:01

Scout popped into my head. I think Jem and Scout are the kids in To Kill A Mockingbird?

Not my kind of names but I liked Kit (think you didn’t) and Finch from other suggestions. Good luck op, baby names bring out strong opinions and ime you’re better to choose privately and announce it as a fait accompli when baby arrives. People tend to be more polite that way, to your face at least.

Eyeskydry · 18/11/2021 21:05

Buoy
Tide
Jack (Tar)
Wren
Mat (as in matelot)
