The world is not ready.

Purpoole · 29/08/2021 04:10

I personally don’t like it.

Sattherelikealemon · 29/08/2021 04:21

I think the association would be Big Bertha (I didn't actually know the military source of this but it's what came to mind). I very rarely think 'that will mean bullying' about a name, but she's a bigger lass it would be awful having that constantly.

What about Beata, Roberta nn Bertie, or just Thea?

ISpyCobraKai · 29/08/2021 04:22

Big Bertha.
Don't do it.

VanishingAct · 29/08/2021 04:28

I'd be genuinely furious with anyone who inflicted a horror like Bertha on their child.

I get that it's cool to use the less obvious vintage names, but some names are redundant for good reason. Because they're very fucking ugly.

Bess and Thea are both lovely names.

Bertha IS NOT.

WiggIyWoo · 29/08/2021 04:30

Horrible. I know a Bessie and that's just her name but Bess is traditionally a diminutive of Elizabeth.

Guineapigbridge · 29/08/2021 04:33

She will always be big Bertha.

What about Roberta?

GeorgiaGirl52 · 29/08/2021 04:38

My grandmother's name and I loved her, but even she hated her name. The family called her "Baby" all her life because she was the youngest of five girls.

urbanbuddha · 29/08/2021 04:39

Nope.

Kanaloa · 29/08/2021 04:42

I don’t like it, and Thea isn’t a nickname for Bertha. It just shares some of the same letters, but so do Alisha and Isla. Totally different sounds and completely different names.

I do, however, think Thea is a nice name. Just not as a convicted nickname for Bertha.

Rainbowqueeen · 29/08/2021 04:49

Not keen at all

BaringasMare · 29/08/2021 05:03

Absolutely horrendous.

Thea isn’t a diminutive of Bertha, but it’s a nice name in its own right - I would go with that, personally.

Newcastleteacake · 29/08/2021 05:17

Our favourite 4wd was called Bertha. Big Bertha. She was awesome.

Car = Yes
Human = No

Bertha will always have the nickname Big Bertha. There's absolutely no way around it.

Came to post this. I like Bertha as a name but can only think of this show. Very fond memories but doubt it’s a good name for a baby.

manhattenrain · 29/08/2021 05:23

I'm not a fan, sorry!

BlackberrySky · 29/08/2021 05:57

Some names are unpopular for good reason. Bertha most definitely falls into that camp. I call my capacious beach bag the Big Bertha!

grapewine · 29/08/2021 06:21

Absolutely no. Never.

PlainJane1000 · 29/08/2021 06:22

Really ugly sorry.

KatherineJaneway · 29/08/2021 06:24

@ISpyCobraKai

Big Bertha. Don't do it.
Agree
WillaWeatherspoon · 29/08/2021 06:33

Sorry Bertha to me brings to mind Bertha Mason, the violently insane madwoman in the attic in Jane Eyre.
There aren't many positive associations with the name.
How about Alberta or Bettina?

Tataru · 29/08/2021 06:40

Noooooo! I am usually quite zen about name choices but I think this would be such a shame for the wee girl.

DryHeave · 29/08/2021 06:50

Bertha is the wife Mr Rochester kept in the attic.

It was also the nickname my gran used for her colostomy bag (“ooo, there goes Bertha blowing!”) but I admit not everyone will have that association...

Lipsandlashes · 29/08/2021 06:51

Good God - why would you do that?

woohoo54 · 29/08/2021 07:23

Awful awful awful
