I've checked previous threads and they're quite a few years old. What are current thoughts on this name? We keep returning to it but wonder whether we should just put it to rest?

We already have a Hugo.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
sunshineandshowers40 · 13/07/2021 23:15

I quite like it but they would need to be confident child.

SlB09 · 13/07/2021 23:16

Not for me I'm afraid

user27424799642256 · 13/07/2021 23:18

Too much. Far too much. Hugo is fine. Ignatius no.

Immybee · 13/07/2021 23:18

Awful just awful...please don't call your child that

Marmaladeagain · 13/07/2021 23:19

Always kind of liked Ignacio - the Spanish version, but Ignatius sounds a rather grumpy person so I wouldn't like it on a young person.

douliket · 13/07/2021 23:20

Oh God No dont do it to him!

bert3400 · 13/07/2021 23:21

Sounds like a contagious disease - sorry

LouNatics · 13/07/2021 23:21

First reactions

Ignorant/ignorance/Ignoble

Ignatius Peverell (Harry Potter, Deathly Hallows)

Ignatius of Antioch, which popped up as a distant memory of something churchy.

LemonRoses · 13/07/2021 23:21

Very Catholic.

PinkSkyPurple · 13/07/2021 23:23

Please don't name your child that!

Honeybeebloom · 13/07/2021 23:23

Very Catholic

That's exactly what I was going to say.

LemonRoses · 13/07/2021 23:26

I quite like it though. Iggy is nice.

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 13/07/2021 23:26

A monks name. Sorry OP.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/07/2021 23:30

Poor kid would be forever getting 'he's no saint'.
(Well, unless he was but normal kids aren't)

UpInTheAttic · 13/07/2021 23:32

Awful.

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 13/07/2021 23:35

Absolutely not.

Neighneigh · 13/07/2021 23:37

Super religious, Ignatius Loyola started the Jesuits.

Tbh if you live in Grimsby, no. If you live in Shoreditch, possibly yes.

OneMoreForExtra · 13/07/2021 23:39

GrinGrinGrin Good one

Oh, wait...

NuffSaidSam · 13/07/2021 23:43

I know a newborn Ignatius nn Iggy.

I think it's fine.

I don't think he'll stand out amongst all the other 'unusual' names.

NuffSaidSam · 13/07/2021 23:44

I do agree that how many eyebrows are raised will depend on location.

In London, not a single eyebrow. Wouldn't even register.

DamsonJammyBastard · 13/07/2021 23:44

I'd assume devout Catholic parents. I know an Ignatius who changed his name to Tom.

DramaAlpaca · 13/07/2021 23:49

Very Catholic and far too much.

ParsleyDill · 13/07/2021 23:50

I know two — one an academic in his 60s, the other a fearsomely cool twelve year old. Both known as Iggy.

I like it.

ContessaVerde · 13/07/2021 23:55

Ignacio is better, another good Spanish Saint is Isidro.

crimescenenow · 14/07/2021 00:01

I absolutely love it. Was on my list of boy names, but I didn't get to use it. So cool. NN Iggy. Fab.
