Is Jaxson (jax) too much like jack we like the name but have a nephew called jack we don't know if it's to similar?

OP posts:

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 13/03/2021 23:14

Yes, I think jax and Jack are very similar. If you were going to use it I would spell it either jaxon, or Jackson.

MenopausalMargot · 13/03/2021 23:19

No, please don't. Your DS won't thank you for it. It's horrible.

Tambourina · 13/03/2021 23:38

Just choose Jack.

Jackson (and any other spelling of it) = not great.

headlock · 14/03/2021 00:29

Sorry but it's awful. So chavy.

imalmostthere · 14/03/2021 00:55

Aww I have a Jackson - suits him so much. I still love his name. I'm not chavvy, and I'm not an intolerable snob either, unlike some on this thread 😬

KarensChoppyBob · 14/03/2021 01:05

Noo no no.

Did you ever watch Australia Love Island? Don't blame you if you didn't but there was a guy on there called Jaxon and every time he was introduced the voice over guy loudly boomed "Jaxon with an X"

Naming him that would just be cruel. Sorry.

confettiballoons · 14/03/2021 01:11

Love this thread and the Mumsnet snobs, did someone suggest John as a better name 🤣🤣
This is, you know 2021, when we’re all trying to fight for a better, more forward thinking world). Mumsnetters are the leading light for standing up for women’s rights and loud and proud for BLM (as they should be) but fuck me don’t call your kid a working class name Shock or let a workman wee in your toilet.
I have a Jaxson. I’m incredibly posh. I think it’s awesome, and the fact that he’s a white male in this messed up world already gives him unfair advantages so I decided he could handle the chav name. I also really enjoyed seeing my mother’s nostrils flare when I told her.

⬆️But it’s okay for you to laugh at the name John? Is it okay for you to do it because you’re incredibly posh?

DudeistPriest · 14/03/2021 08:02

I like the name Jaxson but I do think it's too similar to Jack, how about Grayson or Callum names I find a bit similar.

pilates · 14/03/2021 08:04

Awful

Kitkat151 · 14/03/2021 08:18

I don’t like it

Fucket · 14/03/2021 08:23

Very few people are able to find unique and wonderful names that seem classic but contemporary. There are people who think that taking a well used name and giving it their own spin on the spelling will achieve such a success.

In reality it just seems a bit too ‘try hard’ and possibly that you can’t spell properly.

I also think it shows a lack of originality, a limited knowledge of name meanings, the cultures they originate from and the famous names from history / literature. There are 1000s of boys names to choose from, like Jason for example which is close to Jaxson and is a hero on Greek mythology. It’s hardly used these days and can be shortened to Jay or even Jax if you wanted, but when someone asks him why he’s named Jax he could say, “I’m named after Jason and the Argonauts,” and not “I dunno my mum liked Jackson but spelt it with an x.”

SirSamuelVimes · 14/03/2021 08:25

“I dunno my mum liked Jackson but spelt it with an x.” Grin That is basically what it boils down to isn't it!

FelicityMingington · 14/03/2021 08:28

Sorry, too similar to Jack.

What about Mackswell?

Or Felicks?

dcb2 · 14/03/2021 08:40

I have a Jack. Even 14 years later, there's days when I wonder if it's a bit downmarket and we should have chosen something a bit classier like Edward or William (boring I know). Then again, we struggled with boys names for number 1 so it didn't get any easier for number 2. We had loads of girls names we liked though.

I wouldn't have chosen Jackson or Jaxon as they're a bit contrived, and I think Jax is rather ugly. Then again, I also sympathise with your difficulty in coming up with boys names you like,

SirSamuelVimes · 14/03/2021 08:55

It's worth knowing, I think, that this is maybe the third thread in the last year or so on Jax / Jaxxon / Jaxson and I know a one year old Jax. I don't think it will be as unusual as you might think!

If you like names with an X, how about Maddox or Maxwell? Or Xander, Xavier?

KimKsButt · 14/03/2021 08:55

My nephews name is Jaxson and spelt this way. He’s a lovely kid and suits his name. If you like it then go for it. There’s alot of judgement and snobbery on here. And to be frank you don’t know these people. You could be taking the advice of the biggest “chav” going !!!

Congrats on your baby

borntobequiet · 14/03/2021 09:05

Just spell it Maddison as then you won't have to explain to people how to spell it!!

But it should be spelt Madison, surely? Why the double d?

Agree Jaxson is a hideous spelling, and why randomly Jackson anyway? Jack is better, unless of course Dad is also Jack.

KimKsButt · 14/03/2021 09:11

Why are people telling her to use Jack when she explained that in the OP?

Brandysnapzzz · 14/03/2021 09:14

@butterpuffed

It would be a bit like naming a girl Gennifer Confused
Which given that Jennifer comes from Guinevere/Gwenhwyfar suggests you’re ok with Jaxson!

Also the person who first used the c**y word, I’ve reported your post as it is a horrible term with racist overtones (against Roma/Travellers). It's not ok to use as a shorthand for "people I think are common".

ShowOfHands · 14/03/2021 09:15

We all make assumptions. We all draw comparisons. We all spot patterns. You will NOT stop people doing this. Inferences keep us safe. Noticing patterns teaches us. We are hard wired to do this.

I use this example a lot. If you were meeting triplets called Ludmilla, Cressida and Ptolemy, you would assume certain things about those children's socio-economic background. If the triplets were Jaxson, Demi-Leigh and Jaydun, you'd do the same.

What is important is the way we treat people irrespective of name.

Jaxson is a creative spelling of a surname type name and will be perceived as such. Does it matter? Not really. But on MN, people will be honest.

Congratulations op.

bearfood · 14/03/2021 09:17

@RootyT00t like you I'm disgusted by the posts in here today, pathetic and downright nasty attitudes, especially when @Montysauras has said her child is named Jaxson. Which, by the way, is a great name. If people don't like a name, which I accept the OP has asked opinions on, then 'it's not for me' is far better than the ignorant crap based on stereotypes shown here.

RootyT00t · 14/03/2021 09:17

@KimKsButt

Why are people telling her to use Jack when she explained that in the OP?
Cause they know better.
Brandysnapzzz · 14/03/2021 09:17

More constructively, OP, personally I would go with John nn Jack, but that’s probably not the look you’re going for!
