For girls Laura, Lauren, Sarah, Kate, Katie, Jennifer, Rachel, Rebecca (80% of these with middle name Louise or Elizabeth). Also a tonne of Emilys and Hannahs though these are still pretty popular now.

And for boys Christopher, Joshua, Ian, Craig, Andrew, Stephen, Neil, Scott, Michael

Early 70s baby!

CarlottaValdez · 13/01/2021 06:02

I was late 70s baby.

We had three Ryan’s in my primary school class and everyone else was called Hannah, Louise or Claire. Oh and a couple of Daniels and two Stephens as well.

There are no duplicate names in DS (6)’s class. I think there’s generally a wider spread of names.

WhydoesItAlwaysRainMe · 13/01/2021 06:14

Emma
Sarah
Claire

AndThenTheDayBecomesTheNight · 13/01/2021 06:29

Lots of Claires and variations on Kate/Katie/Katherine. Couple of Helens, a few Carolines (now those two are due a comeback). Victoria/Vicky. Stephanie. Knew a couple of Amandas too.

There was a bit more variety in boys' names, I think. The only multiple ones I can think of are Christopher and Mark. Oh, and Robert. We had Gary, Gareth, Philip, Richard, Paul, Nigel (!). There was an Oliver and his name was thought of as extremely unusual and a bit 'weird'! I also remember a couple of Jameses, thinking about it, and an Alex, but they're still popular today.

LizFlowers · 13/01/2021 06:31

@WhydoesItAlwaysRainMe

Emma Sarah Claire
Those names will never quite go out of fashion, they are classic. Lovely names as are Jane, Louise, Catherine and Charlotte. You can't go wrong with them.
AndThenTheDayBecomesTheNight · 13/01/2021 06:32

Oh, how could I forget Sarah? Quite a few of those.
Girls' middle names tended to be Elizabeth or Louise. Boys', I don't know. Clearly boys didn't discuss their middle names.

vampirethriller · 13/01/2021 06:41

Claire, Louise, Emma, Gemma, Sarah, Michelle. Middle names Elizabeth, Jane, Marie.

David, Michael, Gareth, Matthew, Andrew, Stephen, Gary, John.

On the flip side there was a Sophie and it was a really unusual name - only 1 in the school and 2 in the town of around 30,000 people! How times change.
