Just realised my phone has auto corrected a couple of the spellings you put and for some reason I said no to Pippa and Louisa but I like both of those names... Must of been on a roll!! 😂 😂

CurlyEndive · 06/05/2020 17:47

My favourites are: Clara, Pippa, Poppy, Aurora, Lucinda

Least favourites: Agnes, Isolde, Isotta, Otillia, Alyse.

Edenember · 06/05/2020 17:48

Arrietty kind of is made up - one of the borrowers.

OP posts:
Edenember · 06/05/2020 17:51

Tilda - rice 😂😂😂 . Nice simple critique 😂. That has crossed my mind as well but just can’t help loving the name. I find matilda too long and unwieldy and I think this is the shorter spunkier version. Strong but cute on a little girl... if only the rice wasn’t a thing 😂

OP posts:
EasyLifer · 06/05/2020 17:53

Lol at how many babies are you expecting!

Love Clara, Eliza, Louisa, Poppy and Sarah.

Can you elimanate any that don't go with surname, or have you already done that?

Edenember · 06/05/2020 17:54

Alyse is just pronounced same as Alice, I know someone with this spelling. Not normally one for trendy spellings but I just don’t like that Alice has the word lice in it, I don’t think it looks pretty for that reason but I love the sound of it.

OP posts:
chunkycoke · 06/05/2020 17:56

I’d promoties Alyse A-lees. Maybe Alys?

Edenember · 06/05/2020 17:57

I like Erika and Freyja spelt the Norse ways to reflect Norse roots xXx in fact Eerika would be more appropriate in that case, but feel that’s a step too far in this country 😂

OP posts:
Vintagegoth · 06/05/2020 17:58

Scrap everything apart from Honour and Iona.

Edenember · 06/05/2020 18:03

Yes Thebe is pronounced Thee-bee, like Hebe. One of the wackier ones 😂 but also one of the lesser used Greek mythological names. Sarah would only ever be a middle name. In fact a lot of these are shelved to middle name territory. List would be a lot shorter if only names considered for first names were on it. I think part of the reason I like Sarah as a middle name is just to confuse people 😂 a super common name after something more unusual... ‘is that after someone?’ ‘No I just like it’... ‘Eh?’ 😂😂😂

OP posts:
Edenember · 06/05/2020 18:06

@notalwaysalondoner yeah I like the witchy feel of Rowena that’s defs part of the appeal

SansaSnark · 06/05/2020 18:11

Agnes- I quite like it, but it is quite old lady sounding.
Alyse- I would go Alys/Alais personally.
Arrietty- No, it's not pretty and sounds like a nickname, but it's long and there are no really good shortenings. Spelling it will always be a nightmare too.
Aurora- Love this nn Rory/Rori
Beatrice- Similar to Agnes, although Bea is a nicer nickname.
Betsey- Don't like this at all, doesn't feel like a real name.
Cecily- Yy, like this a lot.
Clara- Clara is ok- it just feels a bit Meh to me.
Daisy- There are a LOT of Daisys out there.
Eliza- Ok, would expect this to be a shortening of Elizabeth though.
Eloisa- Another "meh" name.
Erika- Quite like this, and it's not super common.
Eve- Ok, again a bit meh.
Flora- Meh
Florence- I quite like this. It's fine, a "real name but not too common".
Francesca- I like Francesca, and Cesca is a good nickname. Frannie is awful, though.
Freyja- Another nice name. Lots of variations on this out there though.
Harriet- Like this. Potential for the nickname Harrie is good.
Heidi- Again, I like this, and it's quite unusual but still a "real" name.
Honor- Not keen on virtue names, sorry. It's a lot to live up to.
Indiana (Indie)- I like this, it sounds cool, and isn't that usual. Quite a few Indias out there though.
Ingrid- Like this less than the other Scandi names on the list.
Iona- Nice, but not everyone will know how to pronounce/spell it.
Isla / Eila- Again, really common at the moment.
Isolde- Like this, not sure if I would be brave enough to use it. I bet it would end up getting shortened to Issy.
Isotta- Isolde is nicer.
Louisa- Nice, would get shortened to Lou.
Lucinda- Less nice than Louisa.
Luna- Pretty common at the moment. Has Harry Potter connotations.
Mary- Very meh compared to a lot of the names on this list.
Nancy- See above.
Nell- Doesn't feel like a "full" name to me. Would need to be a shortening of something.
Ottilia- Quite pretty, not sure it has a good nickname.
Pippa- Quite pretty, not that common, not sure it feels like a full name.
Poppy- Soooo many Poppys around of all ages.
Romilly- I just don't like the way this sounds.
Rowena / Rowenna- Fine, not as nice as some on this list.
Sarah- Compared to most names on this list, it's very generic.
Thebe- I think a lot of people won't know how to pronounce this.
Theia- People will spell/say it Thea, which is fine, unless you don't want that.
Tilda- Needs to be a shortening of Matilda, IMO.
Xanthie- People will spell it Xanthe. I know a few people who have "X" names, and it's a hassle apparently.

I hope this helps a bit! The only I'd truly veto are Arrietty and Romily!
