Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BatleyTownswomensGuild · 06/05/2020 22:45

These were the nicest options IMO

Alice (rather than your chosen spelling)
Heidi - lovely and underused
Isla

Louisa
Mary
Nancy

Romilly

Sarah

Some of your choices I had no idea how to pronounce tbh, a bit 'out there' for my taste....

TempsPerdu · 06/05/2020 22:51

That’s an impressive list OP! My shortlist would be:

Flora
Harriet
Honor

Iona
Louisa
Nancy
Xanthe (but only spelled this way)

Top choice would be Honor - lovely

DramaAlpaca · 06/05/2020 22:52

I'm with Spirali. You lost me with the length of that list. I'd love to help if you come back with a much whittled down list Smile

Chickenwing · 06/05/2020 22:53

I like Isla.

Or Louise (rather than Louisa)

Bubbletrouble43 · 06/05/2020 22:57

Loving Honor. Different, strong name.

justanotherparent1810 · 06/05/2020 23:04

The ones I like:

Betsey
Clara
Daisy
Eliza
Erika
Eve
Florence
Francesca
Heidi
Honor
Indiana (Indie)
Iona

Pippa
Poppy
Sarah

That’s quite a mixed bag!! I wish we could agree on half as many Grin

Lifeaback · 07/05/2020 00:09

Aurora
Beatrice
Betsey- I like the name but prefer it spelled Betsy
Clara- one of my favourites, simple and classy
Daisy
Eliza
Flora- this was on my list for DD4 but DH vetoed, I love it
Florence- ...and this was the name we picked for her instead! It’s very popular in our area but I love it and feel like it’s one of those names that makes a cute baby/toddler name but will also hold her well as an adult
Francesca- I like Francesca, very strong and classic
Ingrid- I really love Ingrid
Luna
Nancy- one of my DDs best friends is called Nancy and I think it’s lovely, really suits her
Nell- I have no good reason but I hate this
Pippa- lovely
Poppy- quite popular but I think it’s a lovely name
Sarah- PLEASE no there are so many beautiful names on your list don’t go for something dull like this!

Wow you’re right OP that is a very long list! Good luck choosing, there are some lovely names on here

NC4Now · 07/05/2020 00:12

Tell us about your surname. How many syllables and what does it start with?
Do you want a middle name too?

MintyCedric · 07/05/2020 00:21

Agnes- Y
Alyse- I'd drop the 'e' but otherwise Y
Arrietty- N
Aurora- maybe as a middle name
Beatrice- N
Betsey- N
Cecily - N
Clara - maybe
Daisy - N
Eliza - N
Eloisa - prefer Eloise
Erika - N
Eve- bit 'old' and Evie very overused

If you like classic names how about Leda?

VirginWestCoast · 07/05/2020 01:23

Agnes- One of the worse old lady names
Alyse- Alternative Alice???
Arrietty- A borrower. Unusual but not too bad, not keen personally
Aurora- I imagine this would be quite a hard name to shout. It'd end up sounding like one long vowel.
Beatrice- Love it, Bea is good nickname
Betsey- Short for Bethany/Elizabeth etc, fine but not really on its own (Betsy?)
Cecily- Wet sounding
Clara- Nice
Daisy- Bit twee sounding, not awful
Eliza- Lovely
Eloisa- Lovely
Erika- Lovely
Eve- Lovely (I like your Es)
Flora- Would be hard to carry off if you weren't an especially "girly" girl
Florence- Marginally better than Flora
Francesca- Not bad, prefer Frances
Freyja- Would spell Freya but do love
Harriet- Quite like
Heidi- As above, pretty good
Honor- Don't like virtue names
Indiana (Indie)- No. India, possibly
Ingrid- Really like this.
Iona- Not keen but not for any particular reason
Isla / Eila- As above (actually, it might just be the amount of vowels...)
Isolde- Do like it, actually, though it may be seen as quite "try hard".
Isotta- I've googled it and it's a lot of things before it's a name
Louisa- Not a fan but entirely inoffensive
Lucinda- You will just end up calling her Lucy, which sounds considerably less maiden aunt-ish and is, in my opinion, much preferable
Luna- Always think of Harry Potter
Mary- Classic, currently unusual
Nancy- Like it.
Nell- Like, but as short for something (Ellen/Eleanor)
Ottilia- Nope.
Pippa- Don't like at all
Poppy- Fine for child, less so for adult
Romilly- Nice name, any French connections?
Rowena / Rowenna- One n will do nicely
Sarah- Solid name, underrated in modern times
Thebe- Like Phoebe? Nice enough
Theia- Why the i?
Tilda- Yup, rice
Xanthie- Why the i?

VirginWestCoast · 07/05/2020 01:30

To conclude, from your list:
Beatrice- 10
Clara- 13
Eliza- 4
Eloisa- 6
Erika- 8
Eve- 7
Freyja- 12
Harriet- 5
Ingrid- 1
Isolde- 15
Louisa- 14
Mary- 11
Nell- 3
Rowena- 9
Sarah- 2

Win out. The ranking is simply because I can't sleep.

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 07/05/2020 08:58

I've known a few francesca's and they've had varied nicknames. One was called Fran, but I don't recall her being teased for it, one is known as Frankie and another is Chesca. Are you any closer to narrowing down your list?

peperethecat · 07/05/2020 09:37

Agnes - it's not awful but not really nice either

Eloisa - don't like it with the A, Eloise is quite nice
Erika - OK but think Erica looks nicer
Eve - nice
Flora - lovely
Florence - nice

Ingrid - OK
Iona - quite nice
Isla / Eila - Isla yes, Eila no

Louisa - beautiful
Lucinda - OK, bit drippy
Luna - quite like it
Mary - lovely
Nancy - quite like it

Poppy - meh
Romilly - dislike it
Rowena / Rowenna - Rowena yes, Rowenna is a spelling mistake
Sarah - like it
Thebe - meh
Theia - not sure it should have an I in it
Tilda - makes me think of rice for some reason
Xanthie - not massively keen but spell it correctly if you must (Xanthe, no I)

DoctorBambino · 07/05/2020 10:15

Aurora, Isla/Eila/Ayla, Nell, Sarah, Theia, Xanthie

I like so many 😍.

Beatrice, Cecily, Clara, Eliza, Eloisa, Flora, Florence, Francesca, Freyja, Harriet, Heidi, Honor, Ingrid, Iona, Isolde, Nancy, Nell (also Nella), Romilly, Thebe, Theia, Tilda and Xanthe.
Also like Astrid, Imogen, Nora and Zora.

You have some great choices!

Greenandcabbagelooking · 07/05/2020 11:20

I've removed ones I don't like, and made a comment next to some

Agnes
Alyse - If spelled Alice or Alys
Aurora
Beatrice
Betsey - If spelled Betsy and as a nickname only. I can't imagine an adult called Besty
Cecily
Clara
Eliza
Flora
Florence - very common
Harriet
Heidi
Ingrid
Iona - as long as your surname isn't a noun
Isla - fine but very common
Louisa
Luna
Nell - as a nickname for Eleanor
Rowena
Xanthie - if spelled correctly (Xanthe)

The spellings you've given put me off. some of your names It's hard having an odd spelling of a common name, you are forever saying "My name is Jane, with a y. J A Y N E."

I think my favourites are Beatrice and Harriet.

Difficultcustomer · 07/05/2020 11:22

I’m not keen on the following but really any are fine. They are just personal preference some remind of another word/thing
Arietty - wasn’t keen on the book borrowers
Freyja (prefer Freya)
Isotta - risotto
Otillia - ears
Tilda (Indian background first thought rice)

Twisique · 07/05/2020 11:44

Beatrice

Harriett

Honour

Juliet

binkyboinky · 07/05/2020 11:47

Agnes - no, too granny

Beatrice - Hell to the no

Cecily - no
Clara - no
Daisy - yes, and along with Eliza, has a pretty, old-fashioned, folksy ring to it
Eloisa - yes, but prefer Eloise
Erika - yuk
Eve - no
Flora - no
Florence - no
Francesca - no
Freyja - love this, but prefer Freya
Harriet - no
Heidi -no
Honor - yes
Indiana (Indie) - no
Ingrid - no, too severe, like a severe aunt
Iona - no
Isla / Eila - no, too common
Isolde - yes
Luna - yes
Isotta - no
Louisa - no
Lucinda - no
Mary - no
Nancy - no
Nell - no
Ottilia - no
Pippa - no
Poppy - no
