Daphnie do you like it or not?

Is Daphnie (yes we want the spelling to be that way) cute, too old fashioned. We don't care too much about the scooby reference. Hubby and I both love it. But grandparents hate it.

I quite like it.
I would choose the regular spelling though

BlackHillsofDakota · 16/04/2020 21:30

The spelling offends me and the poor girl will spend her whole life correcting people who have spelt it the proper way. The name I don't love but don't hate.

HarrietM87 · 16/04/2020 21:31

I like it but spell it correctly. It’s Daphne - there’s not need for a random “i” in there. You’ll look uneducated.

Luzina · 16/04/2020 21:31

I like Daphne but Daphnie is awful

MrsJoshNavidi · 16/04/2020 21:31

Daphne yes. Daphnie no. Horrible.

crustycrab · 16/04/2020 21:32

The i is painful. So no

dalmatianmad · 16/04/2020 21:32

Dont spell it in that weird way, it's a very pretty name though!

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 16/04/2020 21:32

I love Daphne but agree with others that you should spell it correctly

TitianaTitsling · 16/04/2020 21:32

Daphne, absolutely, lovely- why the extra I?

Oh good grief. Only if you spell it properly. Otherwise it’s fine

RosieCockle · 16/04/2020 21:33

The spelling is very grim. As if you don't know how it's really spelt.

Momma2L · 16/04/2020 21:35

Her sister included as well as many others in the family have ie ending names. It's special to carry on for my mother. These days people make up entire names so I don't get why ie is so different. Courtney is spelled like 6 different ways.

That spelling is terrible - mixing up different languages. It’s Daphne. I like it.

gnushoes · 16/04/2020 21:37

If it has to have an ie ending choose a different name. That's just daft. Daphne is lovely as it is.

Momma2L · 16/04/2020 21:38

Your name is Rosie....why not Rosey?!

nopenothappening · 16/04/2020 21:38

I don't normally mind alternative spellings but I think this one is really awful and I do agree she'll spend her life dealing with people who think it's a typo.

It feels like you've tried to Disney-fy a name that comes with unpleasant mythology attached. I mean, the only way for her to escape sexual assault was to lose her life as a human. Why would you name your daughter that?

Orphlids · 16/04/2020 21:38

I love the name Daphne. The link to Greek mythology is nice, but that is lost if you alter the spelling. I agree with everyone else - it’s better to stick with the original spelling.

Rayn · 16/04/2020 21:39

I like it but i still think of daphne dying in neighbours when I hear it! Agree with others go for Daphne!

missmouse101 · 16/04/2020 21:41

Sounds a wet name to me and she'll probably be called 'Daffy'.

daisypond · 16/04/2020 21:43

I don't get why ie is so different.
Daphne is Greek. Like Penelope, Hermione, Chloe, Phoebe, Zoe etc. They never end in —ie. If you want an -ie name, you need something non-Greek.

Heronwatcher · 16/04/2020 21:44

I like the name but would really think again about the spelling. The poor child will end up with certificates, gifts, birthday cards, emails and god knows what else spelled incorrectly and will constantly end up having to correct people. If you want a really original name then choose something totally different so that people know they need to check!

Bubbletrouble43 · 16/04/2020 21:44

I know a little Daphne and love the name, but not with an i, sorry.

Bubbletrouble43 · 16/04/2020 21:45

What about Delphi? Love that too.

Miraclescometrue · 16/04/2020 21:45

I don’t like the name or the spelling.
