LUCY!?

I rarely hear this name which surprises me because it's such a clean, beautiful and utterly timeless girls name!! Why don't more people use it?

We want a really pretty but classic name and Lucy/Lucie is at the top of my list (Annabelle, Elena and Anna close runners up)

What do you think of Lucy?

Brassica · 04/03/2020 14:57

It’s my name and I couldn’t agree more - surprises me how few Lucys I come across! I love it.

Sorayray · 04/03/2020 14:59

@brassica I was thinking just this! It's gorgeous, classic, not too unusual and still quite uncommon.

I like Lucy. It’s pretty and timeless. My dd is expecting a little girl within the next couple of weeks. I have suggested Lucy, Emily and Freya.

greenfrog21 · 04/03/2020 15:00

I really like it too. My sister and step-mother are both called Lucy, and my deceased maternal grandmother was also Lucy. I don't know if any children called Lucy though.

Midlifeargh · 04/03/2020 15:01

It’s lovely and because there aren’t many these days, she won’t be a in class full of them (like the Lucys of the 80s!).

Sorayray · 04/03/2020 15:09

Thanks ladies, I'm excited to use it!

Always loved Lucy. Would have been top of my list for a girl. And Ben for a boy.

Roselilly36 · 04/03/2020 15:30

Lovely name, under used IMHO.

Thisismytimetoshine · 04/03/2020 15:34

It is a really cute name.

Poorolddaddypig · 04/03/2020 15:41

It's sweet but its not THAT great. I feel like it's REALLY loved on MN though. If I met someone who had a baby Lucy I'd think it was nice but not really be blown away/give it much thought. Actually, that's it: it's a name of people who don't want too much fuss about their baby's name. I suppose I like that about it.

Sorayray · 04/03/2020 15:46

@Poorolddaddypig Yes I agree, I think that's one of the reasons I do like it, it's quite understated.

OP posts:
Thisismytimetoshine · 04/03/2020 15:48

That’s quite disparaging, really, daddypig?
Not everyone wants a yooneek name that nobody can pronounce or spell (and is really more suited to a product than a child).
You make it sound like beautiful, classic names are for those who just can’t be bothered, which is clearly ridiculous.

user1471449295 · 04/03/2020 15:49

Beautiful, timeless name

JoeySpecial · 04/03/2020 15:51

I LOVE it!

MuddyPuddlesAndPrettyBubbles · 04/03/2020 15:51

I don't think its disparaging, my DD is Lucy and daddypig is right in that I really didn't want a fussy name. DS has a similarly simple name. Plenty of thought was put into naming her and I love the name, it's pretty but not frilly, not too fashionable and therefore hopefully won't date (I have a very 80s name!) and she's the only one in her year.

AudaCityLimits · 04/03/2020 15:53

Actually yes! I've never thought of it, but it is in the timeless classic category isn't it? But not half as popular as Elizabeth or Catherine. I also adore the name Mary.

Whatsyourflava · 04/03/2020 15:54

I’m always amazed theres not more Lucy’s too to be honest. Have thought this many times (how sad am I - I’m a name geek though). How is it not more popular, it’s really lovely and classic- definitely on my list. I also love Anna by the way Op.
I’m always shocked there aren’t more boys called Barnaby too. I know it’s a completely different style of name but I also find it very underused.

Whatsyourflava · 04/03/2020 15:55

Meant to tag you OP @Sorayray

Whatsyourflava · 04/03/2020 15:55

I’m jealous you’re using it OP!

christmaskit · 04/03/2020 15:57

I have a Lucy. She's awesome, strong, feisty and kind.
I'm delighted with her and her name. Both beautiful in every way.

L0obyLou · 04/03/2020 15:59

A really lovely name! It’s very popular in my kid’s school north of the border.

pinkdressinggown · 04/03/2020 16:20

I LOVE it... so classic and beautiful

Lucylivesinamushroomhouse · 04/03/2020 16:34

Yep great name!!

It was pretty popular in the 80s which meant I was one of 3 in my class and I found that really annoying, but it’s not common now so shouldn’t be a problem. I don’t know any baby Lucy’s.

It’s easy to pronounce and spell, works in lots of different languages, has a bright happy feel to it and I’ve always liked the meaning (light).

Go for it!!

Lynda07 · 04/03/2020 16:35

Lovely name, timeless. Go for it.
My neighbours' granddaughter born a couple of years ago is called Lucy and it really suits her.

renegadeoffunk · 04/03/2020 16:37

My parents called me Lucy and I can't stand it. I started using my middle name in my teens.
