I don’t think your suggestions sound MC at all - quite the opposite. Most middle class families are currently opting for traditional names & classics & think hard about things like ‘how would this look on a CV’.
I don’t think ‘Lizard I’ and ‘Lizard II’ or whatever they were again, fit that criteria.

Not saying the class thing matters at all - just don’t think these names are posh whatsoever (in the way Peregrine would be)

Vasya · 17/08/2019 22:16

Castiel is going to make everyone think you're a huge fan of Supernatural. It's also a bit ridiculous for my tastes. Same for Quinn and Glee. Unless you're tv superfans and it's a deliberate homage, I wouldn't be going for either of those.

Icarus - a man whose terrible arrogance led him to die. That would put me off.

Ignatius is the best of them but still really out there.

Honestly (and I am being honest because it's mumsnet) if I heard any of these names in real life I would have a serious eye roll at how try-hard they are. I'm not saying you definitely can't style that out, but it is going to be hard!

If you like roman / mythological names, how about:

Cyrus
Magnus
Marcus
Felix
Remus
Aloysius
Cosmo
Julius
Rufus

Some of those are still pretty out there if that's what you're after, but more reasonable names imo.

Azuresilver · 17/08/2019 22:52

I quite like Quinn and Castiel but the headline made me think of Queen and Castle, which would be handy for people who struggled to remember unusual names at least.

(Reminds me of Blanche in Corrie wondering why Dev had named his children Aldi and Asda, when he had corner shops.)

SleepingStandingUp · 17/08/2019 23:03

@Vasya love supernatural, never watched glee. Its funny, I think some of your suggestions (Aloysius for example) are far more out there

I'm sorry but all the names you've put forward are far too try hard. It's like you want people to ask why you chose those names and quinn sounds like an sti.

wizzler · 18/08/2019 00:00

Icarus and Phaethon?

No.. maybe not

PennyPitStop19 · 18/08/2019 00:11

Farrow and Ball?

SleepingStandingUp · 18/08/2019 07:25

I like Farrow but would think girl

To be fair I would never call a child this, but I thought it might be in keeping with what you're after! I did go to school with an Aloysius so maybe that normalised it for me.

HMArsey · 18/08/2019 08:30

Emmanuel
Emile

Abstractedobstructed · 18/08/2019 10:33

Conrad?

CutsAndSnoozes · 18/08/2019 20:26

Nothing particularly wrong with any of the names.

I've RTFT so hopefully I didn't miss suggesting Saul.

Saul
Warren
Christian
Austin
Drew
Shay
Guy
Basil
Solomon

I'm not saying I like any of them, but that's what I got which hasn't been mentioned

SleepingStandingUp · 18/08/2019 22:44

Thanks for the latter suggestions, none of them really working. I'm currnetly working on DH for Malakai

Xavier, Malachi, & Raphaël?

SleepingStandingUp · 19/08/2019 00:55

Xavier, Malachi, & Castiel?
Nooooo hope of getting Raphael past him tho I love it

OP posts:
HMArsey · 19/08/2019 06:47

Malach-eye or Malach-ee?

Old Testament or Irish (same root presumably).

How your DH can veto Raphael but like Ignatius is beyond me.

sheshootssheimplores · 19/08/2019 06:57

How about Roman and Maximilian.

Carpetburns · 19/08/2019 07:02

Quinn the twin?!

Truly awful. All of the suggestions. Honestly, I'm starting to worry about the next generation. What's wrong with Ben and Sam? Confused

Thoughtlessinengland · 19/08/2019 07:10

John and Peter

SleepingStandingUp · 19/08/2019 08:00

What's wrong with Ben and Sam?
John and Peter
. My cousin, my friends son, my friends husband and my uncle. Nothing wrong with the names per se but no desire to give them the names of people were close to

DennisSkinnersMolotov · 19/08/2019 12:03

DS is Quinn so I'm biased (it was a LOT less common 7 years ago).

I like Cassius and Lachlan that you've mentioned. As you like Quinn, our boys list for DS2 includes Felix, Harris, Cohen, Torbin.

DennisSkinnersMolotov · 19/08/2019 12:07

And if it was up to DS1 his brother would be called Leonardo (I actually don't mind Leo but it's too close to the dogs name), Ivo, or Mitch (!)

MrsLoganEcholls · 19/08/2019 13:18

I've got a little boy called Quinn. Other names we liked were -
Micah
Leo
River
Logan

I love Castiel, but then I am a Supernatural fan Grin

SleepingStandingUp · 19/08/2019 15:38

@DennisSkinnersMolotov love Torbin. Really wanted Torbien for DS but he's a Xavier instead

OP posts:
DennisSkinnersMolotov · 19/08/2019 15:55

@Sleeping could you use it this time? Quinn and Torben / Torbien sound lovely together. And I love the fact it means thunder bear.
It's been vetoed for me by DH as it's too similar sounding to our surname (I can see why, both end in 'in' / 'ing')
