how is Balthazar too 'out there' but Castiel or Ignatius aren't?

Have you read/see Horns? The main character in that is Ig[natius].

SleepingStandingUp · 15/08/2019 09:06

@CassianAndor yes read the book and seen the movie, so make that two I've heard from popular culture altho I was aware of the name before and its less of a mental link to me.

Hi @SleepingStandingUp 👋 I feel your pain; my DS1 has a very unusual name (that took us forever to come up with) and now we are struggling with more boys' names.

I like Quinn and Cassidy. Castiel does sound a bit made-up - I'd never seen it before and I've trawled 1000s of baby names.

What about:
Cariadoc
Matthias
Zachariah
Hereward
Jolyon
Jago

Good luck!

AverageMummy · 15/08/2019 09:23

Jolyon sounds like it should be the name of a condom brand. ‘Get your jolly on’ Grin

SleepingStandingUp · 15/08/2019 09:27

like Quinn and Cassidy. Castiel does sound a bit made-up I might work on Cassius with DH, Casssidy is quite surnamey?

Matthias - love but nn Matt is on the "not name babies after people we've dated" list
Zachariah - is it too odd when DNeph who is 3 years older is Izaak? I adore adore adore it. But worried we'll end up with two Zaks

Others are on the "sound made up" pile I'm afraid but I do appreciate the supoort

CassianAndor · 15/08/2019 09:38

is Zac a usual short for Isaac? I suppose logically it is, it just would never have occurred to me.

Zachariah is definitely more 'normal'.

Jolyon is a pretty established name, isn't it? It's a character in some period drama/book IIRC. Young version played by Rupert Graves, older one by Joss Ackland. Why do I know this stuff???

widget2015 · 15/08/2019 09:40

Is your DH Jacob Rees Mogg?

SleepingStandingUp · 15/08/2019 10:04

Well it's Izaak so I think that lends itself more towards Zaak as a shortening iyswim and she's paranoid people will call him Ike so has contemplated starting to call him Zaak to stop it. Not that anyone would think of Ike in this day and age

Jolyon is a pretty established name, isn't it erm, no lol

SleepingStandingUp · 15/08/2019 10:05

@widget2015 thankfully for my sex life, no but I wouldn't mind his money

I love Quinn but I prefer it for a girl. Castiel is cute

CassianAndor · 15/08/2019 12:37

well, a quick google tells me it's a medieval variant of Julian (when I say established, I mean it's been around a long time).

I certainly think it's more established as a name for people than Castiel or Icarus!

Cohle · 15/08/2019 12:42

I think of Quinn as a girls name - not that that should particularly put you off it.

Jolyon is a bloody horrible name.

Abstractedobstructed · 15/08/2019 12:44

Ah OP
My fantasy sons were called Barnaby, Tobias and Titus. Also loved Nathaniel and Silas.

We went for much more normal names in the end and all 3 boys are very very glad. However, do have my fantasy names for free.

SleepingStandingUp · 15/08/2019 12:49

Tobias and Nathaniel are lovely but I have close friends with both. Barnaby was the first boy I liked....

Is it Cas-TEE-uhl or CASS-tee-ul?

Quinn is more associated for girls for me, it's the Harley of 2019.

I'm afraid I agree that Jolyon is a real name.

Can I offer you Dashiell? Lucien?

Colourfulest · 15/08/2019 13:31

My friend has a little boy called Castiel. It's totally normal to me now but I loved it from the start! Quinn is nice too but I don't like your other suggestions.

SinkGirl · 15/08/2019 13:39

Honestly, do not use names with the same first letter. My boys are non-identical and have names that start with the same letter - nobody remembers which is which, it causes endless issues with medical records etc, it would be even worse if they were identical.

I wanted Frasier and Niles personally but DH said box

SinkGirl · 15/08/2019 13:39

No, not box!

JuneSpoon · 15/08/2019 13:40

Haven't RTFT but Do you know what happened to Icarus?

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 15/08/2019 14:07

If you like Matthias and Zachariah, how about:

Elias / Elijah
Josiah
Malachi
Ezekiel
Ezra

I found a ton of these old biblical names but they don't really fit with our DS1's name which is old English. Jolyon and Hereward are both old English/ Anglo-Saxon so definitely real names! I do get the objections though 😂

NotAgainKen · 15/08/2019 14:14

Jolyon is the name of two characters in The Forstye Saga by John Galsworthy, which had a big television adaptation with Damien Lewis and Gina McKee a few years back, so fairly well known if you like period drama!

You can't really compare Icarus with Jack - it's like calling a child Herod or Satan. Although I guess Herod and Satan do kind of go together in the MN sense...

CassianAndor · 15/08/2019 14:17

NotAgain The Forsyte Saga, of course! I wittered on upthread about who'd played Young and Old Jolyon but simply couldn't remember where they were from.

Thank you!

SleepingStandingUp · 15/08/2019 15:39

Is it Cas-TEE-uhl or CASS-tee-ul?
Cass T eL

Lucien? love but school Mom just had one, is that weird? They'll be a year apart but our older kids are in class together

OP posts:
SleepingStandingUp · 15/08/2019 15:41

Elias / Elijah no
Josiah like but will just be Joe so hubby 3ill say no
Malachi and Ezekiel adore adore adore, but DH sucks

God,the MN obsession with the name Quinn, sounds like quim.

Honestly OP, they're awful names and I've lived all over the place and heard plenty of out there combinations.
