So, I rung up my mum - here's how the phone call went:
Me "I just can't get over Acacia and not sure if Saskia is the one!"
Mum "Fuck these modern names, just choose Florence or Ivy or NORA, something classic."

NORA !!!
NORA IVY??? I looooove it. But then Saskia is more modern and DS is Grayson so they're very different styles. So many thoughts. What do you think?

...but how about Enid? I think that's due for a comeback

You cannot be serious ...*

Yes, I am, Errol. Enid was my lovely late mother's name (Nora was her sister's name)

Time40 · 14/07/2019 22:48

... but quite apart from the fact that it was my mum's name, I think it's nice, and I think it's due for a comeback (of course, I can see that I am probably biased)

Prettylittlelady · 14/07/2019 22:50

Nora Ivy is lovely. Or Ivy Nora....your mum has good taste :-) what’s her name?!

joystir59 · 14/07/2019 22:51

Sasha? Sylvie?

joystir59 · 14/07/2019 22:52

Iris May was my mum's lovely name

BigSexyCrimeUnit · 14/07/2019 22:52

Not keen on Mabel or Nora both dowdy names.

How about Leonora or Honor?

Ohwhataballsup · 14/07/2019 22:53

Florence.

Not bloody Nora, she will be forever telling people not to put a H on the end.

SkiingIsHeaven · 14/07/2019 23:53

I agree with @TalkinAboutManetManet name her after your mum.

Astronica · 15/07/2019 01:16

You have gotten yourself tied in knots haven't you? Look, for every name you've suggested you're going to get people who love and people who hate it. Your mum is one of these. I think you need to try to hear what you think, even if it's something most people disagree with. You have suggested these currently: Saskia, Acacia, Nora, Mabel, Lilia, Leila. All of these are usable names that are perfectly fine as Greyson's sister. They all have some pros and cons, and I certainly have a favourite among them, but I think you are listening to too many voices.
Having said that, here's my twopenny worth ( but just my opinion!):
Saskia - lovely, my personal favourite, strong, sassy, not commonly used.
Acacia - interesting and unusual, nature name, good sounds, will have some spelling and pronunciation issues for some but not a reason not to use it, a lovely individual and distinctive kind of name.
Nora - popular at the moment, safe, sounds okay but a bit dull to my ears.
Mabel - on trend like Nora, but I just hear 'bull' so dislike it.
Lilia - soft and gentle sounds, ladylike, unusual but sounds fit with currently popular names like Lily, Lila, Layla.
Leila - on trend like Nora and Mabel, but I prefer it over these, usually pronounced same as Layla but I have heard it pronounced Leela too.

If your heart continues with Acacia then just own it and use it!

RubbingHimSourly · 15/07/2019 01:22

Acacia is my local taxi firm 😂😂😂

Equatoria · 15/07/2019 02:56

Eleanora with nickname Nora could work. She'd have other nickname options such as Ella, Lennie or Nell.

Rachelover40 · 15/07/2019 03:58

Nora is a diminutive of Eleanor (or Eleanore if you like the spelling the Irish use). It's nice if the full name is Eleanor.

donutrehomer · 15/07/2019 06:07

To go with Grayson? Which I love by the way.

Philippa which can be shortened to Pippa.

Grayson and Pippa sounds utterly gorgeous.

Saskia - Big Brother (anyone over the age of 35 will remember her party trick).
Acacia - Bananaman.
Nora - bloody Nora, Nora Batty.

They're all terrible names.

Prettylittlelady · 15/07/2019 06:26

What about Nora Iris then?

yikesanotherbooboo · 15/07/2019 07:37

I don't like Acacia at all but Saskia is pretty and Nora is traditional and bang on trend .

Yawninfinitum · 15/07/2019 07:42

Lola
Lorelie
Nola

I’m not keen on Nora but Mabel and Saskia are nice

Frazzled2207 · 15/07/2019 07:45

I know a 2 yo Norah. Very cool IMO.

Happyandglorious · 15/07/2019 07:56

Nora is terrible in my op.

bribery · 15/07/2019 08:39

I actually thought Acacia was the nicest but I can see I'm alone in that! 🙈😁

Saskia - bit harsh. Nora and Mabel are from the same place - the early 1900's.

Scrap all the ones you've got and go for Calliope - Callie for short.

Grayson and Calliope...

I love Nora but it’s my friend’s schnauzer’s name and so that’s what I see when I hear it. It suits her perfectly.

Not keen on Acacia or Saskia. Saskia is the better of the two.

IsobelRae23 · 15/07/2019 09:51

Nora- Batty.

Yes OP you are aiming for the most name threads in MN history!!!

IsobelRae23 · 15/07/2019 09:53

This is what I ‘see’ in my head, when I ‘hear’ Nora.

I think I've found THE ONE :) BUTTT...
Pinktinker · 15/07/2019 11:31

Nora Ivy is a stunning name. Much much prefer it to Saskia.
