So, I rung up my mum - here's how the phone call went:
Me "I just can't get over Acacia and not sure if Saskia is the one!"
Mum "Fuck these modern names, just choose Florence or Ivy or NORA, something classic."

NORA !!!
NORA IVY??? I looooove it. But then Saskia is more modern and DS is Grayson so they're very different styles. So many thoughts. What do you think?

Iris is lovely.

Nikhedonia · 14/07/2019 19:21

I don't like Saskia. It reminds me on the woman in one of the early series of Big Brother. The one with the bottle 🤮

Not entirely sure why, because that was Kinga! Grin

BikeRunSki · 14/07/2019 19:24

I have always had an irrational dislike of the name Saskia. Nora is much nicer!

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 14/07/2019 19:27

Ivy

Yellowweatherwarning · 14/07/2019 19:28

Just glad Buttt wasn't the name tbh!!

Militantmartha · 14/07/2019 19:32

Saskia is a lovely name and isn't a 'modern' name. It's an old Dutch name. Rembrandt's wife was called Saskia she was born in 1612. I'd hardly call that chavvy!? @DerelictWreck

Not keen on Nora am afraid it just sounds a little dowdy

Astrid, Iris and Lilia are nice names

littlebitstressed · 14/07/2019 19:32

Nora is beautiful.

simplekindoflife · 14/07/2019 19:35

Nora and Mabel sound like old ladies names to me... Very dowdy and drab, sorry.

Love Saskia! Goes really nicely with Grayson.

C0untDucku1a · 14/07/2019 19:38

I know a couple of adult Noras. One is approaching retirement and more typical of the age at which the name was most popular. One is a young beautiful, smart, confident professional. I do like it.

damnson · 14/07/2019 19:40

Nora is ace!!!

Flipsyflops · 14/07/2019 19:40

Ah, OP, until you added Astrid to your list I was gonna let you name my kid for me, your taste was so spot on!

Nora
Saskia
Mabel
Acacia

All beautiful name. Acacia more normal where I grew up (not uk), and I can see it might get a few "huh?" responses over here, but all the Acacias I've known are lovely.

I'd go for ANY of these 4 names. Heck, have more babies and use all of your lovely list Grin

NameChange30 · 14/07/2019 19:42

@Aram1nta
Yes. This is the OP's 7th baby names thread. All from this month.

Aram1nta · 14/07/2019 19:44

Wow. Why? If I hate Saskia and Sue in Scotland loves it, but Claire in Wales insists on Acacia, where does that leave you? Grin

7 threads Grin

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 14/07/2019 19:45

I’d hate to be called Nora!!

HeadintheiClouds · 14/07/2019 19:45

7... And we’re still debating Nora 😬

Gooseygoosey12345 · 14/07/2019 19:45

Acacia makes me think of focaccia...

IVEgottheDECAF · 14/07/2019 19:46

Dont like Nora. Love Nola.

flowery · 14/07/2019 19:46

We had a hamster called Nora (geddit?) when I was a kid

OhTheRoses · 14/07/2019 19:50

Nora! Last of The Summer Wine. Tell your mother to pull her socks up. She's Batty

Saskias alright. Xanthe, Esme, Daphne, Olympia? Edith at a push. Mabel? Martha?

Pastaagain78 · 14/07/2019 19:50

I like nora. Nora Ivy is pretty. Ivy is good too.

Blueuggboots · 14/07/2019 19:51

Saskia was the name of the wife of Rembrandt, so hardly modern!!
I have a friend called Saskia who is in her 40's.
I like Nora, but prefer it spelt Norah.

TinyMystery · 14/07/2019 19:51

Saskia was the one in Eastenders who Steve Owen whacked over the head with an ashtray. It’s all I can think of when I hear it and I was 7 when that happened and definitely shouldn’t have been watching that!

MikeUniformMike · 14/07/2019 19:51

I don't like Nora or Ivy and together make me think of Norovirus.
Call her Acacia.

B00kworm86 · 14/07/2019 19:52

Nora is beautiful!!!

Fatkins · 14/07/2019 19:54

Mabel and Saskia are lovely.

Acacia is absolutely awful. Do not call your poor baby girl that name. Yuk.

Nora reminds me of norovirus.

Florence is lovely too.
