Nina - negative reaction

We called our daughter Nina. Most people reacted very positively. However my brother sent a text saying “the other kids have lovely, classic names. Why name this one after an emergency service siren?”

He has shaken our love for the name.

What do others think of Nina?

I love it, it's also one of my favourite perfumes.

I like it as a name- but we did used to run after the Nina in our year shouting nee-narr nee-narr nee-narr like an ambulance and it stuck into secondary.

But there will always be something that kids do to each other and I don't think the Nina we knew was traumatised by it. It is still a lovely name.

Echoing @TheVanguardSix, your brother is being SUCH a brother! I'm sure my brother would say the same if I named a DD Nina. Probably worth avoiding a response to that part of his text, if you can manage to hold back (otherwise he'll latch onto the fact it bothers you). That or the classic MN "did you mean to be so rude"? Make him squirm!

1. Nina is a very pretty name. You chose it because you love it. I'd keep the name!

2. Can you imagine saying "we changed her name because my brother didn't like it" (and of course, your brothers "I was right" reaction). When your brother has a baby, he can name it. Until then, he can shut up!
