So out of curiosity I searched my own name in the mumsnet search function to see what opinions are on my name as a ‘baby name’.

Turns out I have a very very horrible name that everyone hates!!!

Makes me feel a bit sad. I always thought it was quite nice.

Oh well....

Has anyone else done this?

Mine must be bland, it's gets suggested quite often but next to no actual comments on it

cavycavy · 08/01/2019 23:05

One day we will see a whole host of Debbies, Linda’s, Michelle’s, Clare’s etc etc and we will be cool again.

Yes, I have! Most Mumsnetters think my names is posh, pretentious or a celebrity name. Some have thought it feminine and romantic. I was on a couple of shortlists though, so that is something! Grin

DeadButDelicious · 08/01/2019 23:06

My name is 'classic' apparently. Very, very popular in the 80's, went through a bit of a lull but is having a resurgence now.

DD's name is 'lovely and biblical'. Popular but not toooooo popular.

Poor DH though, poor, poor DH. His name is universally hated. 😂😂

"Chavvy" and "downmarket". Apparently my name's kudos dove spectacularly in the 80s and 90s. Lol. I also found someone with my name and similar heritage that fought back so yay her! Grin

2kidsintow · 08/01/2019 23:07

I'm a Tamzin.

Thoughts on my name on mnet veer between 'urgh, too 80's' and 'really horrible' to people who really quite like it.

And once, as I was once also told to my face by an obnoxious bf of a friend of mine, 'It sounds like a chinese takeaway'.

Celledora · 08/01/2019 23:08

I have a name that marks me as a child of the 80s. Or a transgender Corrie character 😉

YoureAMeanOneMrGrinch · 08/01/2019 23:08

Apparently my name is 70s chav and outdated. From a post from 2011.

I'm ok with that, I like my name. It's not overly common and there's different ways to spell it to make it seem more updated.

My name: Leanne
How I've seen other people spell it: Leighanne

LetsSplashMummy · 08/01/2019 23:10

I have a name unusual for our generation but a little bit more common now. I have seen a response say "it makes me think of (eerily similar description of me), I don't know why," and someone else say "yes, who does (hobby I used to do)" and I can't figure out who these people are that sort of know me.

I suppose it's possible they don't, just coincidence, but suddenly MN felt a much smaller world!

cavycavy · 08/01/2019 23:10

I would never ever asssociate Tamzin with a Chinese take-away!

It makes me think of Tammy Girl, the shop I was always desperate for my mum to buy me clothes from but instead we always ended up in BHS.

Mine has been described as a 'typical white girl name', Twice!! Confused
I'm not white.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 08/01/2019 23:11

Oh, my name is considered "lovely" and "pretty" according to mumsnet.

cheesenpickles · 08/01/2019 23:14

My youngest dd's name is all super positive and "cute", "pretty".

Older dd is a lot of positives and it being compared with a brexit term. That won't last long.

Middle names now Grin

Fattymcfaterson · 08/01/2019 23:14

My name is dated apparently and sooo 70's..... Even though I'm in my 20's 😂

cavycavy · 08/01/2019 23:14

If i have another baby I’m tempted to call it a ‘meh’ 80’s name just to buck the trend.

Blueraccoon · 08/01/2019 23:15

I wish I hadn’t done that.

Dreary, horrible and dated were some of the kinder comments about my name 🙁

snop · 08/01/2019 23:15

I'm definitely going to do this

Hezz · 08/01/2019 23:17

OP is it pronounced Sh eryl or Ch eryl?

I never know.

Dommina · 08/01/2019 23:18

Mine is dated, dull, and occasionally chavvy on here.

I like it though.

Buntybearbess · 08/01/2019 23:20

The responses for my name were; thoughtfulness, sweet, funny, giggles and spiteful brat Grin.

Also had votes of; love it, I know/knew a Bethany and she was fab, I knew one who was a right pain Grin

But apparently I'll only dress in fancy designer clothes and shop at higher end stores, so I'm fixing the votes on that because it is so not true Grin

I just tried to search mine and the search function nearly exploded at the number of mentions just in the last week! I share my name with one of most talked about women in the UK! Haven't seen it suggested as a baby name that often though.

snop · 08/01/2019 23:20

Apparently my name is dire

cavycavy · 08/01/2019 23:21

Sh in my case.
