I just searched my own name on mumsnet...

So out of curiosity I searched my own name in the mumsnet search function to see what opinions are on my name as a ‘baby name’.

Turns out I have a very very horrible name that everyone hates!!!

Makes me feel a bit sad. I always thought it was quite nice.

Oh well....

Has anyone else done this?

From looking up my name it is
A- the name of at least one famous person
B- the first half is at least two peoples usernames
C- a place

Is it possible to search specifically on one board? I’m on the mobile site and only seem to be able to search the entire site

AgathaMisty · 08/01/2019 22:34

Funny you say that because I looked for mine a few weeks ago and some people liked it but a lot said it was quite old-fashioned and I'm only mid-thirties. I don't mind too much though as it's not what I'd have chosen anyway!

Cheryl!!

Aridane · 08/01/2019 22:34

Apparently my name is old fashioned and a bit 'meh' (though some spring to its defence)

JaiNotJay · 08/01/2019 22:35

I've seen my name on a few threads over the years. The general consensus is that it's hideously old fashioned the world isn't ready for any more! Grin

WillYouDoTheFandango · 08/01/2019 22:36

Pippa, if you scroll down the list you’ll find baby names. That’s your best bet

Bananalanacake · 08/01/2019 22:37

I haven't had to search as there was a baby name thread about my name. It is popular in Spain, Greece and Italy. Everyone said it's beautiful, it's a classic, I love it. So I have the mn approval.Smile

cavycavy · 08/01/2019 22:37

Aw thanks for saying nice things about my name!

I guess it’s all relative. A nearly 40 year old woman called Cheryl seems more acceptable than a newborn baby.

And I am very cherub like.

Just searched mine and people said it was chavy :(

Milliepatch · 08/01/2019 22:38

Well i just tried this and got no results found! My name is pretty standard 🤔

CocoLoco87 · 08/01/2019 22:38

Mine is often said as a boring name or a 70's name. I was born late 80's so consider myself a child of the 90's.

I don't like my name though. It's plain and one syllable. My surname was also boring and one syllable so I was excited to take DH's surname when we got married Grin

JaretsGirlfren · 08/01/2019 22:39

My name gets suggested a fair bit as a ‘beautiful’ name but I have never met another one!

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 08/01/2019 22:39

I like Cheryl! I think it’s a lovely warm name and always imagine a Cheryl to be kind.

I searched mine, very mixed results! Some hate if and describe it as masculine, others say it’s pretty!

cavycavy · 08/01/2019 22:40

Pippa, I just searched for my name in the search bar and restricted it to ‘titles only’ and then about 3 posts came up in Baby Nanes.

Whenever someone suggests my name on a baby name thread someone immediately turns up and says “oh no, that’s a dog’s name!”

Same! I bet we have the same name!

scrivette · 08/01/2019 22:42

My name is one of the most popular names in the 80's and is not due a comeback!

DD's name often comes up in the 'names I wish I was brave enough to use' threads.

cece · 08/01/2019 22:42

Mine is either
Meh, boring and plain

Or

Classic, simple and lovely.

LuluMelons · 08/01/2019 22:43

Mine has comments such as:
"Very nice"
"Never met one I've hated"
"Love it"
"A bit dull"

BlackPrism · 08/01/2019 22:43

Mines a top 10, all of my names are a top 10 😂 so though people like it everyone always says it's overused and too popular.
Mum assured me she didn't know anyone with my names when I was born :')

cavycavy · 08/01/2019 22:44

I wonder whether out great grandchildren will be called after us in a trendy retro way?

OP posts:
Flywheel · 08/01/2019 22:44

Well I'm pleasantly surprised. Most threads are debating the pronunciation, but any comments are mainly positive.
However, my sons name is described as wet and my daughters name common. Fuck them. Who cares what randoms on the internet think!

BlackeyedGruesome · 08/01/2019 22:44

oo this sounds fun. I dislike my name so not fussed if other people hate it too.

IncomingCannonFire · 08/01/2019 22:46

I just searched mine and it's come up as lovely. Halo < smug face.
Cheryl is a nice enough name.
Baby name boards are wierd and seem to be dominated by traditionalists or trolls (I can't work out if they are all taking the piss). Anyone wanting a slightly off beat or shock horror, foreign sounding name is swiftly put in their place.
