I just searched my own name on mumsnet...

So out of curiosity I searched my own name in the mumsnet search function to see what opinions are on my name as a ‘baby name’.

Turns out I have a very very horrible name that everyone hates!!!

Makes me feel a bit sad. I always thought it was quite nice.

Oh well....

Has anyone else done this?

I just saw this on a baby name thread and thought it might cheer you up, OP.

Does it matter what a bunch of strangers on the Internet think?

GirlDownUnder · 08/01/2019 23:44

If you search your name in MN ‘Baby name finder’ it gives you a full breakdown of love it / hate it, projected job, shopping habits, fav biscuits the lot!!

Shock
cavycavy · 08/01/2019 23:48

Ooooh! I’m checking that out!!

I was newly on Mumsnet and there was a thread called 'is Jocasta really a real name'

I'm a Jocasta. I had no idea of the connotations around it!

Mumsnet verdict: Loathe it
Will be a: Dinner Lady
Will wear: Primark
Will shop at: Greggs
Biscuit: Chocolate hob nobs and party rings

Classy! Lol

I think mine is a bit Marmite on here. Lots seem to see it as a classic, others find it ugly or harsh. I’d say it’s about a 70/30 split, with more liking it than not.

ShartOfGold · 08/01/2019 23:57

Well... my name got ripped to shreds 😭

I can't help but feel incredibly hurt!

cavycavy · 08/01/2019 23:57

GrandmaSteglitszch

That’s true! It feels weirdly personal though.

Shaft, same here! But one day our names will be top of the list.

Probably when we’re dead.

But we will be cool again one day.

Shart not shaft

My name has made a comeback, nothing really negative.
Searched my son’s name... mostly negative. Searched the name I’d have used for a girl and it’s all nice comments.

waterlego6064 · 09/01/2019 00:03

Oooh, i’ve just looked at the Baby Name finder and I’m pleasantly surprised- mine is liked a lot more than loathed.

Apparently I’m likely to shop in Waitrose or M&S, clothe myself in Burberry and Fatface, and work as a drama teacher or interior designer. Not too far off!

Aloethere · 09/01/2019 00:04

Wow! I just looked up my name on the baby name finder and under 'nicknames' is whore and under 'When I hear x I think of' is bitch. Apparently I am a chavy, vapid bimbo who works as a dinner lady.

I never much liked my name but fuck me that's harsh!

NoMoreMarbles · 09/01/2019 00:06

Mine gets slated in all baby name threads! I hate it and I've never been complimented on it... I get a lot of "hmm...you don't hear many people with that name nowadays" Hmm there's also a pretty well known song that's been sung at/to me by every person who I have ever met...

waterlego6064 · 09/01/2019 00:06

I’m sad for those who are hurt by the reactions to their names! 💐

Chella45 · 09/01/2019 00:10

Leyna

Aparently mines made up and too "younique".

Well billy joel disagrees as he wrote it in a song. It also does appear in baby name books!

Is it Mandy?

@cavycavy Grin no not Mandy!

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 09/01/2019 00:15

Mine veers between "pretty, sweet, classic" and "dull, bland, done to death in the 70s and 80s".

It's not very fashionable now. My mum actuary named me after her great aunt, who was born in the late 1890s, but coincidentally my name was also ubiquitous in the year I was born.

Oh doing the search in the baby name finder is much less harsh ! Everyone loves it afterall. haha names are such a personal thing yet have nothing to do with choices we made, such a funny thing to judge people on!

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 09/01/2019 00:19

nomoremarbles Jolene?

NoMoreMarbles · 09/01/2019 00:21

Haha nope...

I've just done the baby name finder and I got:

Loved and hated equally
Would be a dinner lady
Shop at Laura Ashley or George@ASDA
Eats stem ginger biscuits or hobnobs

Think Come on... and you will get it Grin

cavycavy · 09/01/2019 00:21
