North?

Ok so we are still coming up with names. We are in our 2nd trimester now so we've still got a while to finalize our choices.

A name we've found that we like too is North. Just to be clear, absolutely no connection to Kim Kardashian whatsoever. Can't personally stand her, but I really like the name and the nn 'Nori'.

Would love to hear your opinions if that's alright :)

Ridiculous - sorry.

TwoGinScentedTears · 27/06/2018 06:57

You might not associate it with th Kardashians, but everyone else will I think.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 27/06/2018 06:59

No.
Never.

DailyMaiIisMyBogRoll · 27/06/2018 06:59

North is so strongly associated with the Kardashians - you may not make the link but everyone else will. And Nori is a kind of edible seaweed!
It’s a “no” from me on both counts.

PurpleDaisies · 27/06/2018 07:00

It’s not a name.

AlyTab · 27/06/2018 07:01

Don't see how it's "ridiculous", but of course that is your opinion after all.

How about Nora? You can still use the nickname, but it’s not associated with awful people. Although Nori is seaweed, if that changes your mind at all.

OlumOrange · 27/06/2018 07:01

If I heard it I would assume the parents were big fan of Kim Kardashian

I do like Nori but again would think of Kim sorry

Gottokondo · 27/06/2018 07:04

It does have a connection to Kardashian because otherwise you wouldn't have thought of it as a name. Although I quite like the sound of Nori, I do think that you are setting up your child to be bullied with this name.

Eminybob · 27/06/2018 07:06

The Kardashians are literally the only people who had ever used the word north as a name (well maybe apart from people who have subsequently copied them) so I think that it is intrinsically linked with them sorry.
And it’s not a name, it’s a compass point.

Itchytights · 27/06/2018 07:06

Hideous

Boooommm · 27/06/2018 07:10

Isn't Nori a name though? I have a Japanese friend called Nor I. Maybe just do that?

HeyDolly · 27/06/2018 07:10

You may not like her, but of course there is a connection to Kim Kardashian and approx 99% of people will assume that is where you got your inspiration from if you name your child North.

londonfeather · 27/06/2018 07:17

I know a Nora that has the nickname Nori

Candyflip · 27/06/2018 07:21

How is it, on any fucking planet, NOT connected to the Kardashians. It is not a regular name, therefore they made up the diminutive. You would sound absolutely ridiculous. And who the fuck wants to nickname their child after fucking sushi?

OliviaStabler · 27/06/2018 07:23

Just to be clear, absolutely no connection to Kim Kardashian whatsoever.

But it will in everyone else's mind and you will spend years explaining that but no one will believe you.

As a PP said, Nori is an edible seaweed. I wouldn't want to be nicknamed after a piece of sushi.

FocusOnMePlease · 27/06/2018 07:23

Norrie is the name and spelling of a character in "under the dome" not sure if you have seen/ read/ heard of it? If you like the name Nori- use it. Don't use North if you don't want any association with KK because thats all it has i am afraid. Not sure Nori is the true shortened version of North anyway- again just a KK invention x

LuMarie · 27/06/2018 07:25

Oh my goodness, such rude responses!

I think it’s pretty and classy. Who cares if it has a celebrity connection.

Way better than most of the crazy names here.

gryffen · 27/06/2018 07:26

Yup, hate to say it but Kardashian is what I think of.

Nori is a seaweed but also short family name for Norman (grandpa) so that makes me smile.

purplemunkey · 27/06/2018 07:26

Or Noreen, nickname Nori?

I had a friend with a daughter called Suri. She was similar age to Holmes/Cruise kid rather than younger so it may been coincidence but my immediate thought was that they'd given her a celebrity kid name.

purplemunkey · 27/06/2018 07:28

Oh that's true, I think in Under the Dome it's short for Eleanor.

I like Nori too but would avoid North.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 27/06/2018 07:30

North - daft khardasians
Nori - seaweed

musicinthe00ssucks · 27/06/2018 07:30

North is a direction not a name

DevilsDoorbell · 27/06/2018 07:33

I’ve heard worse names but everyone will assume you’re a fan of the Kardashian’s even if your not.

darceybussell · 27/06/2018 07:33

I think in Japan Nori may be short for Noriyuki, which I think it's boy's name.
