I'm sure there has been many threads on this already.. read this morning that Mary is the hot favorite for girl & Henry for a boy.
Love Mary hope they use it, Princess Mary nice, fresh & underused, would be nice for Mary to have a comeback. Alice next at 6/1, prefer Mary.

I'm pretty sure that Charlotte is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana

Chocachoo · 09/04/2018 14:31

Alice Victoria Caroline for a girl.
Arthur Michael Charles for a boy.

Can't see them using Diana or Elizabeth as those as charlottes middle names.

Thebirthdayparty · 09/04/2018 14:44

Matilda too popular but Scottish links so maybe. . Beatrice (Fergie’s daughter so no), Alice is my call. For a boy particularly, something from the UK royal family.

MissEliza · 09/04/2018 14:56

Matilda has Scottish links? I thought there was a Queen Matilda of England in the Middle Ages.

Its always sad they won't use John since it has too many sad associations in the family. Princess Alice was one of Queen Victoria's daughters as well as Prince Philip's mother, Mary would be lovely, Alexandra, Matilda, Elizabeth with a known as nickname just as Prince Harry has always been known as Harry, Eleanor, Victoria. There were two Princess Henriettas, two Amelias, two Sophias and a Caroline, none of which have been used in a while. But I suspect they'll play it safe.

For a boy, Arthur seems the most likely, or Philip.

Thebirthdayparty · 09/04/2018 15:29

It would be great if they used a Welsh name given their declarations about it being their special place.

DanceDisaster · 09/04/2018 15:58

Princess Myfanwy or Prince Taliesin would be awesome! They never will though. Is Arthur Welsh?

turnipfarmers · 09/04/2018 16:04

Arthur is derived from Welsh/Latin according to my names book.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 09/04/2018 16:24

With Charlotte they were very clever in giving her a name that had connections to both sides of the family I thought.

Charlotte - feminine version of Charles, same “family” of names as Carole, Pippa’s middle name
Elizabeth - Kate’s middle name, Carole’s middle name, Queen’s name
Diana - ok - that is just Diana

So I reckon we need to look for names on both sides.....

Phillip / Philippa is an obvious one
James
and James’s middle name is William.

Reckon at least one of these will be used but not sure which.

Victoria for a girl.
David for a boy

Zazu44 · 10/04/2018 04:41

Maybe not long to wait - barriers are up outside the hospital in Paddington

Kokeshi123 · 10/04/2018 05:22

Would be nice if a slightly wider palette of names was used. It's not a binary choice of "Elizabeth/Charlotte/Anne" versus "Kylie/D'shawna/Tiffanie-Mae"--there are loads of nice well established names out there that would sound fine with "Princess" in front of them.

They are quite a boring "safe" couple though, so I don't expect anything exciting.

FleurDelacoeur · 10/04/2018 08:34

Fergie and Andrew went a bit off-piste with Beatrice and Eugenie and William and Kate might decide to follow suit and go for an older Royal name which is less common.

Louis maybe - both Andrew and Edward have Louis in their name.

Or Caroline, Adelaide, Augusta for girls?

DanceDisaster · 10/04/2018 08:50

Maybe Alfred? I don’t know why I’m assuming boy.

applesandpears56 · 10/04/2018 08:55

I think Alfred too. It’s a royal name, a nice name and nn could be Freddie

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 10/04/2018 08:58

I think since it’s very unlikely this child will be monarch they will relax the naming a little.

As a pp said, some of the outer royals have some more modern names and I think they (Kate and William) can find a good balance.

Kneedeepinunicorns · 10/04/2018 09:04

Fergie and Andrew went a bit off-piste with Beatrice and Eugenie

Rumour has it the reason it took days for the names to be announced was that the names they originally wanted (or at least that Fergie wanted) were not on the approved list and were vetoed. They chose some of the most unusual off the approved list. Anne got away with Zara, but then Anne didn't accept titles for her children and very much set it up for them to be able to be unrecognised and able to have normal lives. Any child of William and Catherine's won't be that lucky.

QueenOfMyWorld · 10/04/2018 09:07

I think they'll have alice for a girl or Alexander for boy

Sevendown · 10/04/2018 09:14

They are so boring!

I like the Philliips’ Names choices Isla and Savannah.

ReversingSnail · 10/04/2018 09:21

Victoria Beatrice Caroline
Henrietta Sophie Anne

But having said that...

Alice and Mary are both very "safe" royal names and I think will be included.

There is far more discussion going on regarding girls' names than boys' names. So I reckon they know already and someone has been indiscreet so the press found out.

DanceDisaster · 10/04/2018 09:34

Oh interesting @reversal.

The papers did say they “wanted to keep it private” rather than that they didn’t know.

fcekinghell · 10/04/2018 09:38

I think they'll have a boy.

I think boys names will be David or John

Girls will be Alice or Mary

turnipfarmers · 10/04/2018 09:51

I wouldn't be surprised to see Francis/Frances in there somewhere as that has connections to both sets of parents.

Blueberrycheesecake1 · 10/04/2018 11:06

Sorry if being dim but why would James be avoided for political reasons?
