Hi all, I'm a teen who is currently expecting. My baby reveal is in a few months and although I'm fixed on calling my potential DS Matthew, like his father, I have no idea what to call my potential DD! Confused But I want it to be creative and quirky, any ideas?
So far I've got :

  • Oceania
  • Arielle-Sky
-Asia-Mae

I like Asia-Mae. If you like place names there are quite a few but I think Asia is nice. My name has a lot of meaning and is really unique. Growing up I kind of didn’t like it because I’m quite a bit older and unusual names never really happened back then but now that I’m older I really like it and really like the fact it wasn’t just picked at random and it’s mine. If there is one with more meaning I would choose that but babies always make their name their own in the end anyways. Good luck and congratulations!

Remember you're naming a woman, not a tiny baby girlie.

PunkrockerGirl59 · 18/03/2018 21:34

Let's hope it's a boy then.

I'm ignoring the girl's name just to sa6dont give any baby boy the same name as his father.
It's so unoriginal and it gets confusing when child becomes an adult.

greenfluffysocks · 18/03/2018 21:45

really appreciating the support but feeling a bit patronised by what I presume to be older mothers. I'm a creative person and quite mature for my age. Swaying towards Asia-Mae, but also love Persphone, the powerful Greek Goddess name Grin

Asia-Mae is my favourite from your list.

Arielle kind of reminds me of Areola Blush

Ginger1982 · 18/03/2018 21:49

I'm sure people don't mean to be patronising OP but just try to remember that your baby will eventually grow up and while one of the names you suggested sound really cute for a wee girl, they're perhaps less so for a woman in her 20s/30s with a career who is trying to be taken seriously. Sorry!

PasstheStarmix · 18/03/2018 21:49

Persphone reminds me of pheromones for some reason OP. In my opinion Asia is much prettier but Mae is very overused as a second/middle name.

greenfluffysocks · 18/03/2018 21:51

really thankful for these constructive critcisms, but still would love quirky name suggestions suited for all ages. And any other DS names?

BrutusMcDogface · 18/03/2018 21:55

Asia-mae is HORRIBLE.

Oceania is quite pretty, as is Persephone (sephy for short?)

Don't call her Fraise (strawberry in French?!)

greenfluffysocks · 18/03/2018 21:58

thank you dogface, any reason for the dislike towards Asia-Mae? Asia was my mothers POB , and I love double barrelled names, really cute and then my DD can choose between 2 names!

I’ll be honest, not keen on your names, but that’s because I prefer more traditional names, rather than quirky. However, there’s nothing wrong with them, and I do like Persephone.

Other suggestions:
Hermione
Titania
kizzy
Kaia
Maya
Tara
Tilly
Piper
Ramona
Josie
Hero

RavenWings · 18/03/2018 22:01

Anything ending in -mae will just blend into the hordes of other kids named Speshul-Mae, Youneek-Mae or whatever it is. It just isn't quirky when there's a horde of them.

I think Asia and Sky are pretty sounding names.

DullAndOld · 18/03/2018 22:02

If you like Greek names, what about Artemis or Antigone? or Penelope?

newtlover · 18/03/2018 22:02

bear in mind any Greek origin names will be frequently mispronounced and/or mis-spelt

DullAndOld · 18/03/2018 22:02

not Greek but do you like Tallulah?

HairyToity · 18/03/2018 22:03

I don't like hyphenated names. How about:
Sienna
Flora
Harriet
Rosanna
Lucette
Violet
Francine
Dorothea (nn Dot or Dottie)
Alicia
Kristen

Waterlemon · 18/03/2018 22:05

Orlena
Laina
Ava-mae
Roxie
Tierney
Maeve
Martha

I have a quirky name - in fact, the priest refused to Christian me. Apparently he christened me using my middle name first! I’ve never particularly liked having a quirky name. My name is also a bit childish/girlie and could be a nickname for a longer name. DP didn’t want to give me one name for me to then be called by another but I do wish they had given me the longer name that mine is derived from, so I would have had a choice later in life.

There is nothing wrong with any of your names, just try imagining them attached to a 40 yr old before you make your final choice.
