What potential quirky baby names could I call my potential DD?

Hi all, I'm a teen who is currently expecting. My baby reveal is in a few months and although I'm fixed on calling my potential DS Matthew, like his father, I have no idea what to call my potential DD! Confused But I want it to be creative and quirky, any ideas?
So far I've got :

  • Oceania
  • Arielle-Sky
-Asia-Mae

Juniper

Dontcallmemummy8 · 19/03/2018 21:20

For a boy:

Ezra

Kipling

For a girl:

Lux

Tamarind

I am not having anymore humans spawn from my belly (sob) but these would be top of my list...

Dontcallmemummy8 · 19/03/2018 21:21

@pookyhook. Juniper is lovely....

Hazandduck · 19/03/2018 21:31

I second all the nightclub comments...gives me a headache remembering those WKD nights! Sorry OP.
I think Asia is pretty as a name, not a fan of the Mae hyphenation though.

Pearl
Birdie
Dodie

Love lots of the name suggestions on here. Adrienne is what I wanted to call DD after my great aunt, DH was not a fan :(

Congratulations, are you going to find out what you’re having OP?

afrikat · 19/03/2018 21:35

Some fab names on here

Slightly unusual names I like

Aurelia
Aurora
Seraphina
Savannah

Good luck!

Patal · 19/03/2018 21:50

I think Asia Skye is a lovely name especially if Asia has a sentimental meaning to you through your mother. I agree that May/Mae is ridiculously common and doesn’t seem to match the quirkiness you’re seeking

LastNightsMakeUp · 19/03/2018 21:51

I think Matthew if baby is a DS is a lovely idea to honour his father. Also it’s a really nice name - classic, strong.

Girls names.... I don’t want to patronise you but what we did when we named our dd was to think ‘could (insert name) be a future prime minister?’ So maybe something like this. Quirkiness can be drawn from her personality and a nn.

I really like Persephone from your list... Persephone could be the name of a future prime minister.... or zoo keeper.... or whatever she wants to be. It wouldn’t limit her.

And congratulations x

MikeUniformMike · 19/03/2018 22:19

If you are going to call the LO Matthew if it's a boy, why not give a dd your name? Greenfluffysocks would almost certainly be the only one in her school.

feral · 19/03/2018 22:33

I'd avoid the double barrel with Mae tbh as that's not quirky it's just overused.

Asia is nice on its own with a 'normal' middle name perhaps. There's no need to double barrel. Take it from someone who has a double barrelled name!

Oceania is a night club!

luley44 · 19/03/2018 22:34

Phaedra
Allegra
Vania
Christalle
Edwina (Teddy as a cutsie little girl, then seriously cool)

WazFlimFlam · 19/03/2018 22:49

If you like Greek names and 'A' names what about Arianne?

Chilver · 19/03/2018 22:59

I loved a previous suggestion of Emmeline in honour of Emmeline Pankhurst. It's a strong name and can also lend itself to some lovely nn Like Emmy, Emmy-Lee, Lina, Emma, Mel etc

Also like
India (if you like place names)
Mims
Skye
Willow
Phaedra (love this one too)

Snowysky20009 · 20/03/2018 01:36

Willow

Piper

Addison

Hattie
Juniper
Serendipity
Tallulah
Vixon
Estelle

Please don't use -mae/may it is so common!!

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 20/03/2018 01:48

feeling a bit patronised by what I presume to be older mothers

I was going to try to help OP, but then I saw this and thought I'd perhaps not bother. I'm not sure of the relevance of your own age - you announced that you are 'a teen who is currently expecting' but if you're as mature as you say, then you'll realise that casual agism is something to be avoided.

Good luck with it all.

Octave777 · 20/03/2018 01:52

I dislike double barred names. But Asia on it's own is nice.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 20/03/2018 07:03

I also love Phaedra.

dancingunicorns123 · 20/03/2018 10:21

I prefer Asia-Grace

Patienceofatoddler · 20/03/2018 10:32

Why the appeal for such 'quirky' names? I just don't get it.

Sorry I just think a lot of them are frankly very common and a tad cringe worthy.

Think about what you want your child be be when they are older and a name which will give them confidence to achieve- Would you see them as a Dr / Teacher / Secretary / Lecturer with that name?

Consider how would you react to a professional person with that name?

I also fail to see the relevance of being a teen mum has to do with it bar highlighting your maybe not considering the seriousness / longevity of the decision!?!

Kokeshi123 · 20/03/2018 12:12

OP, how about something pretty/a bit flowery BUT a proper name and not hyphenated--like Seraphine or Adrienne or Rosalind or Arabella?

Every teenager I know with a hyphenated name has dropped the hyphen. The reason for this is that hyphenated names especially with Mae sound twee and silly on anyone over the age of about eight.

I know some of the replies on here might sound a bit harsh, but this is Mumsnet and one of the main purposes of the Baby Name forum is that people will tell you what they are really thinking about the name you are considering, not just random generic "oh, that's lovely hun" type responses.

The reality is that if you call your child something like Arielle-Skye, it will paint a picture of her as being a not-very-educated person in the eyes of teachers and prospective employers-it's wrong that people stereotype like this, but they do (even nice people who actively try not to stereotype). It's a shame to pigeonhole your child like thatwho knows what she will grow up to be? If my mother had given me that kind of name, I'd be cross about it, to be honest.

Contesse · 20/03/2018 12:56

Yes this. By all means give it an uncommon name but bear in mind that babyhood is short and one day she'll be a woman in her thirties, forties etc and that a little cutie baby name will sound ridiculous. The made-up names, ones with kreative spellings and bonkers hyphens sadly just do put people into a certain bracket, and people sadly will judge that. It's not fair to the kid.

Ariella is my favourite from your list.

BrendasUmbrella · 20/03/2018 13:26

First name-Mae isn't quirky. It's something you hear in every school playground across the country.

TatianaLarina · 20/03/2018 13:28

It’s not quirky it’s just very chavvy.

Ariella is good though.

Elllicam · 20/03/2018 13:44

Ariella is pretty or Adrienne/Arianna/Allegra. I agree with most other posters that Something-Mae/Mai/May is very overused.

FartnissEverbeans · 20/03/2018 17:23

Arielle (and Ariel/Ariella) is a beautiful name. I love Skye too, but I don't think they need to be put together - they're nice enough on their own.

Persephone is one of my favourites!

How about:
Blaise
Xanthe (pronounced Zan-thee)
Salome (pronounced Sal-oh-me)
Hadley
Rani
Eleni

LoveInTokyo · 20/03/2018 18:41

@Kokeshi123

Exactly.
