Hi all, I'm a teen who is currently expecting. My baby reveal is in a few months and although I'm fixed on calling my potential DS Matthew, like his father, I have no idea what to call my potential DD! Confused But I want it to be creative and quirky, any ideas?
So far I've got :

  • Oceania
  • Arielle-Sky
-Asia-Mae

Morgana
Briar

I love the name May/Mae but also agree that it is the modern version of “Louise” that every other 70’s/early 80’s baby girl was given as a mn!

upsideup · 18/03/2018 22:10

I love Oceania and Asia- Mae, though Mae is quite popular.
Ariell-Sky I like individually but they dont fit that well together.
Though I'm really not keen on naming a child after a parent, would he be Mathew Junior? Although Mathew is an okay name it doesnt really compete with your girl choices

Pancakeflipper · 18/03/2018 22:10

Lyma
Brexxie
Brynia
Jeannique
Dorcha

Ohyesiam · 18/03/2018 22:12

nasty bit of ageism inyour update there op.Angry

Coco2891 · 18/03/2018 22:13

Asia is nice but I’ve got a pet hate of Mae/May/Mai as a middle name. My suggestions would be :-
Sunday
Sapphire
Solomi
Savanna
Shilo
Bianca
Valentina
Veronica ‘V’ or ‘Vernie’
Viola
Vienna
Athena
Maddison
Solomia
Shay
Carmen
Honestly I could go on and on with girls names but I’ll stop now.
(I have 2 boys) 😂

Coco2891 · 18/03/2018 22:14

Watermelon - it’s not watermelon is it? 🤣
Can’t belive a priest would refuse anyone for their name 😮😮😮

greenfluffysocks · 18/03/2018 22:15

Never meant to come across as ageist ! I do believe theres a divide when it comes to things such as baby names choices though! I respect any age mother, as a first time expecting mum I look up to older mothers, who probably have my xp than me

I know an Oceana (prefer to Oceania) and think it is lovely.

Arielle is lovely by itself. Also in this vein Ariana and Eliana.

I don't like double barrelled names personally, particularly just appending Mae onto the end, which is definitely not quirky!

Why not choose a more interesting boy name and use Matthew as a middle name if a boy?

RavenWings · 18/03/2018 22:17

There have been some really lovely suggestions, much more quirky and unusual than the original list.

I'll add Liberty, Electra, Amity, Allegra, Aphra, Zinnia, Paloma, Jada, Rania, Vita, Elise, Damaris.

Coco2891 · 18/03/2018 22:19

Love Liberty and Paloma Ravenwings
I just want to add Pearl 😍 god I love that name.
I quite like some old lady names like Ivy , Iris , Maude, Olive

Veterinari · 18/03/2018 22:22

Well double-barrelling with Mae is about an non-creative as you could get.

If you want something a bit different you’d be better off picking an underused classic rather than double barrelling with a super-common name that will be very much ‘of this generation’

And calling your DS Matthew is pretty sad if that’s his father’s name - doesn’t he deserve a name of his own? Or is he destined to just be a mini-me?

bridgetreilly · 18/03/2018 22:23

Quirky boys names:
Leander
Hereward
Edgar
Alaric
Jerome
Caedmon
Canute
Lucian
Clement

I would use Matthew as a middle name, to save the confusion with his father.

bridgetreilly · 18/03/2018 22:26

Inigo

MoreHairyThanScary · 18/03/2018 22:27

Agree with other posters mae is about as unoriginal / quirky as you can get....

For a girl
Hera
Juno
Lydia

For a boy
Amos nn moss
Arthur

Coco2891 · 18/03/2018 22:27

Or Mattius ‘Matty’ Instead

Coco2891 · 18/03/2018 22:29

I’ve seen somewhere online and it made me laugh:- ‘Liz’ and when people ask if short for Elizabeth ? No-Lizard!
Now that’s different/quirky! X

TroysMammy · 18/03/2018 22:30

Elfine
Bria
Bonnie

fitbitbore · 18/03/2018 22:31

Asia mae sounds like a place I'd get an all you can eat buffet for a tenner on a Sunday.

LoveInTokyo · 18/03/2018 22:32

Sorry OP but I agree with what some of the other posters have said.

To me your choices don’t come across as creative or

chezmk1988 · 18/03/2018 22:32

Please don't name your little one any of those chav tastic names. I quite like Arielle but use it on its own.

LoveInTokyo · 18/03/2018 22:33

quirky, more “teen mother who has given her poor child a silly name”.

Of the ones suggested I like Persephone and Juno - at least they are real names.

fuzzyduck33 · 18/03/2018 22:33

If you're looking for quirky I'd steer clear of hyphenated names, especially those ending in Mae. They're very overused and not creative or quirky really.
Oceania, Asia and Ariella I like, all very pretty.
Persephone is gorgeous too! Just leave Mae as an ordinary middle name.

Swirlingasong · 18/03/2018 22:36

I love Eulalia. DH veto-ed it but I think it's fabulous - potential for cute nicknames but also a quirky grown-up name. I would probably use a more 'normal' middle name though to give the child a name they could use to blend in more.
