Hi all, I'm a teen who is currently expecting. My baby reveal is in a few months and although I'm fixed on calling my potential DS Matthew, like his father, I have no idea what to call my potential DD! Confused But I want it to be creative and quirky, any ideas?
So far I've got :

  • Oceania
  • Arielle-Sky
-Asia-Mae

Haha yes the sticky floors bring back memories!

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 19/03/2018 16:48

What about giving her the very grown up name of Emmeline (in honour of E Pankhurst since its 100 years since women got the vote), but you can call her the cute and quirky nickname Emmy-Lee?

YerAuntFanny · 19/03/2018 17:05

Don't do it OP, I had my first when I was a teen and I'm so glad he was a boy as our "quirky" girls names were absolutely awful in hindsight! I blame the hormones 😂

As others have said I'd avoid the hyphenated Mae as it's hugely overused, but it's fine as a run of the mill middle name.

How about Raeya, Adrienne, Anaya, Leila, Zara, Xanthe, Carmen, Enya or Penelope (Penny)?

Chienrouge · 19/03/2018 17:09

If you’re looking for unusual...

There are 5 Something-Mae’s at my daughter’s fairly small pre school.

AnyaMoondial · 19/03/2018 17:33

Zelda. It's an amazing name.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 19/03/2018 17:39

Linnet is absolutely gorgeous, but please stay away from hyphenated names, there's nothing exotic and about those anymore...

ItsAllABitStrangeReally · 19/03/2018 17:48

I know an Electra who owns her name Well, works in fashion etc.

It's a fab name but I do think we have to be careful not to go too 'out there'. The Electra I know was lucky, she wears it Well.........but gay, dumpy, grey haired me in my granny caddie wouldn't wear the Electra dress anywhere near as well as the willowy blonde, trend leading fashion designer I know. 🤔

ItsAllABitStrangeReally · 19/03/2018 17:50

God knows where 'gay' came from. 🤔

I'm not gay. I am however gay, itbeas meant to say fat.......my skinny person is obviously trying to get out today 🤔

ItsAllABitStrangeReally · 19/03/2018 17:51

Tabitha is a good name.

Cutesy Tabby during childhood merges well into Dr Tabitha Jones or whatever.

AdidasGirl · 19/03/2018 18:09

Oceania is the name of a chain of nightclubs.

Trampire · 19/03/2018 18:41

Adidasgirl, as many of us have mentioned upthread. Did you have a local one too? Wink

Trampire · 19/03/2018 18:42

I agree hyphenated names are really not quirky at all. Very over-used.

I agree Linnet is lush. Along with plenty others mentioned on this thread, however has the OP even been back?

NameyMcChangeRae · 19/03/2018 20:21

Agree that Asia-Mae is awful. Awful awful awful.
Anything hyphenated is seen as lowerclass OP, not original.
What about:
Girl: Matilda, Aphra, Opal

Boy:
Rufus, Rudy, Otis

Unicornsandrainbows3 · 19/03/2018 20:26

Persephone is nice.
Athena
Skye
Winter

Unicornsandrainbows3 · 19/03/2018 20:32

Unicornsandrainbows3 · 19/03/2018 20:33

Snooks1971 · 19/03/2018 20:40

Coco I have a Pearl and love the name. She, however, wishes we had chosen Margot.
Therefore:

Pearl
Margot

PeterRabbitEatingHisCarrot · 19/03/2018 20:42

I like Oceania and Asia. I would avoid the hyphen Mae because you’d be defeating your objective to choose a quirky name, Lily-Maes, Lola-Maes etc are everywhere.

I don’t like Arielle spelt like that. Ariel is nice.

I also love quirky names. Because you’re asking people with annonymous usernames to give their opinions, you’re likely to be given ‘they’re awful’ responses. You’re unlikely to receive these responses in real life...so go for your quirky name, don’t let anything discourage you or you’ll be living a lifetime of name regret.

MikeUniformMike · 19/03/2018 21:02
  • Oceania - no. It's too much.
  • Arielle-Sky ditch the hyphen
-Asia-Mae - no. it's truly awful.
MikeUniformMike · 19/03/2018 21:05

Ariel is a boy's name. Persil is French for parsley. Daz is short for Darren. Other laundry products could be inspiration for a name.
Lenore, perhaps?

Midnightpony · 19/03/2018 21:08

Fleur

MikeUniformMike · 19/03/2018 21:11

Aderyn is just the welsh word for bird. It's no more suitable as a name than Bird.

MamaTT · 19/03/2018 21:11

My Dd is Delphi. Never met another one and always get comments on how pretty and unusual her name is. She's 8 months old now and I still love it as much as I did when I first heard the name

MikeUniformMike · 19/03/2018 21:12

Fleur is lovely.
