Just a post for fun

I’m wondering if anyone had any names they would have loved to have called their DC but either didn’t use it because it was too out there or they changed their mind last minute

Mine would be Rocket - part of me is desperate to still use it with next DC

@ErrantBakedBean I love October! But then I've given my kids a weird name so I'm probably not one to go by

Potteryprincess30 · 08/02/2018 14:56

@floriad they are classics! Frank is absolutely amazing! Any man called Frank could definitely hold his head up high.

Emil makes my heart melt and as for Francesco....I have met 2 in my life and they have been quite honestly been the kindest most attractive men.

I'm bias on that last one, but they really are perfect. Not too alternative but individual to give a strong sense of identity. Plus all three sound solid and strong when you say them aloud. Major name envy here, I'm having a girl though and although I do like a masculine feel for my choices, I think calling her Frank may make mumsnet explode

floriad · 08/02/2018 15:04

Pottery

Oh wow. You're making me reconsider.

I think I'll need to talk to DH again...

We didn't want to find out the gender, so maybe we won't get the chance to use Frank either... (well, also, my OH doesn't really like it.)

I think calling her Frank may make mumsnet explode

Probably. But I rather like the nn Frankie for a girl. Could be short for... Francesca? Franca? Franziska...? Idk.

Potteryprincess30 · 08/02/2018 15:15

Francesca

Love Smile

I know most people don't decide until they see they baby anyway but your choices are bloody golden woman! I can only see you adding to them so its inevitable that your husband will fall for one or the other.

Anyway, you know men. He'll probably forget he has vetoed some and closer to the birth when you re-read the list say 'Oh I like Emil, why didn't we think of that before' Grin

Potteryprincess30 · 08/02/2018 15:18

Also 'Arielle' forever Smile

But I just cant do Virginia, the nick name potential is just not there for me @floriad

topsyandtimison · 08/02/2018 15:19

India

floriad · 08/02/2018 15:22

Yes, I honestly wouldn't do Virginia either. But I still like it :)

I think I might try that. ;)

And thank you for calling my choices golden.

But yes, Francesca is brilliant (imo), I agree ;)

What are your top choices for a girl's name?

Scotsmum2017 · 08/02/2018 15:24

Marie-Antionette!!! Grin

Potteryprincess30 · 08/02/2018 17:06

@floriad mine are very unisex, and there fore have gone down not so well on here! Lennox and Eden are my front runners, though may totally change my mind when I see her Smile

When I posted them i had a 50% really liked, and about the same absolutely hated so unisex type seem divisive choices generally.

Arielle and Ariana I really love but they are far to similar to my other daughters name unfortunately.

RibenaMonsoon · 08/02/2018 17:10

DH wanted "shadow".....
I told him to fuck off...

Sabistick · 08/02/2018 17:11

Aphra

gingercakeandwhitecustard · 08/02/2018 18:47

Percy!

mammymammyIRL · 08/02/2018 22:35

@floriad Frankie could be short for Frances!
I know a little girl called Frankie after her dad Frank, not sure if she has a longer name on her birthcert or not.

GaucheCaviar · 09/02/2018 08:29

Xavière and Sébastienne. DH said non.

grannycake · 09/02/2018 08:41

My DH vetoed Barney for DS2 - I still think he looks like a Barney 30+ years later. Also Poppy was vetoed for DD

floriad · 09/02/2018 09:00

mammy

I'm not too keen on Frances. But that little girl's dad has a truly awesome name ;)

@Potteryprincess30

I really like Eden. .)!
You might also like Yael / Jael, Adel, Glenn, Blair, Cecil, Estelle, Rachel or Marielle?

I think unisex names are so divisive because it's often "just" a boy's name used for a girl and not a "truly" unisex name...?

Which might also upset the people that like it as a boy's name / want it to remain a clearly masculine name? Idk.

floriad · 09/02/2018 09:03

I recently met a little girl named Farley.

I've never heard / seen it as a girl's name. But she's such a bright little girl and the name truly suits her.

Personal associations have such a big influence when we talk about whether we like a name...

Lennox reminds me of Annie Lennox, to be very honest.

k2p2k2tog · 09/02/2018 09:54

DH wanted Iñaki for a middle name for a boy. I thought it was a bit out there even though I lived in the north of Spain where it's common. Sometimes regret not going for it.

Mollie85 · 09/02/2018 20:01

I can't have kids, but my names were as follows:

Seth
Theo
Gus
Amos
Benjamin
"Out there" name - Red

Lola
Posie
Cadence
Elowen
Isobel
"Out there" name - Lumen

Not to everyone's taste, I agree Grin

summer25 · 09/02/2018 20:09

Wanted Sonny for my DS but DH was having none of it. Also liked Ritchie.

bettydraper31 · 09/02/2018 20:31

When I was little I said I was going to have a girl and call her Panther. Thank god I grew up! Grin
