Name you weren’t brave enough to use

Just a post for fun

I’m wondering if anyone had any names they would have loved to have called their DC but either didn’t use it because it was too out there or they changed their mind last minute

Mine would be Rocket - part of me is desperate to still use it with next DC

Girl - Jamieson
Boy- Rhett
Boy- Hunter

SunshineHQ · 07/02/2018 00:20

My parents (back in the 1970s) wanted to call me Fanny.

My grandmother intervened - thank god.

Iwasjustabouttosaythat · 07/02/2018 00:26

I know lots of Clementines. I don’t think it’s weird at all.

I forgot I love Aubrey. For a boy or a girl. So beautiful. DH no again.

ALLIS0N · 07/02/2018 04:59

We wanted Oona but got some funny looks, I love Cora but DH said “sounds like something you’d take the pips out of an apple with” - I suppose he has a point.

Asa

catwoozle · 07/02/2018 05:19

Genevieve, Anneliese, Ursula, Amber, Hannah-Mariah.

ifigoup · 07/02/2018 05:41

The world would be so much more interesting if more people used names like these! Why are people such sheep?!

catwoozle · 07/02/2018 06:26

Well, we did choose fairly interesting names, not in the top 50 at the time and one not in the top 100. The fact is it isn't our free choice but our partners also have their own ideas, which may be a little more conservative!

pipilangstrumpf · 07/02/2018 06:55

I agree! These names make such a refreshing change. Life would indeed be more interesting and it would be so much easier to identify people by their first names.

For example I know so many adult Steves and Mikes and so many little Harrys and Ellies that to be identified, need their surname or other modifier.

SisterMortificado · 07/02/2018 07:33

Iphigenia

I still love it.

I did get Imogen, though, which I'd saved for a decade.

SheepySheepy · 07/02/2018 14:38

I know a Lettice and a Linnea!

BewareOfDragons · 07/02/2018 20:35

I would use Verity if we had another girl ... but alas ... not more DCs in this house!

Eeeeek2 · 07/02/2018 20:49

Ernest

NerdyBird · 07/02/2018 21:03

Sherlock, but for a girl. It would have been ace! But we'd agreed no S names as there are too many in our family already, and DH didn't like it. We also know people called it as a surname.

I like Avery too for either boy or girl.
I do love DDs name and it totally suits her but it's not brave.

ErrantBakedBean · 08/02/2018 08:53

I'd love to call a boy October, nn Toby... but I know I'm not brave enough and family would think I'm insane.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 08/02/2018 09:03

Nicole. An ordinary name you might say, exept her initials would have been NOBGrin.

Sunshine what did your nan say.
"You canny call her Fanny" like on iron bru advert. Grin

floriad · 08/02/2018 09:07

I haven't named anyone yet.
But I am currently pregnant...
Names I like but probably won't use:

Lumina, Flora, Fleur, Virginia, Severina, Arielle.

Emil, Francesco, Frank, Leonard.

ememem84 · 08/02/2018 09:14

Thorin or winter. Ds has a lovely classic name. Named after both my grandads. But I wish we’d thrown “Winter” in there.

Thorin was just too out there for dh.

Potteryprincess30 · 08/02/2018 11:44

@floriad

Emil, Francesco, Frank

These are three of the best boys names i've ever heard! I love them all, please re consider, they are beautiful, strong and so unusual Smile

titsandbits · 08/02/2018 11:52

I was going to be called Molly but, thank goodness my granddad stepped in! Awful name.

floriad · 08/02/2018 12:10

Potteryprincess

Aww, thanks :)

maybe I should ;)

I do love them but DH thinks they're a bit too "weird".

NathanTheProphet · 08/02/2018 12:11

Trevor.

coldbatteredpuddings · 08/02/2018 12:13

Rhodri. I love it but while we are both welsh, we thought it might be a bit too unusual in England.
