Name you weren’t brave enough to use

Just a post for fun

I’m wondering if anyone had any names they would have loved to have called their DC but either didn’t use it because it was too out there or they changed their mind last minute

Mine would be Rocket - part of me is desperate to still use it with next DC

Amos or Cornelius

Roberta or Ramona

Quentin
Persephone
Jemima
All vetoed by DH.

Xeneth88 · 05/02/2018 22:43

Deven. His father caught me off guard after a 36 hour traumatic birth and convinced me to call him a name I don't like at all (and is classed as chavvy here, though he has the "posh" fullname version on his B.C". It's grown on me, DS is 9 now and his name suits him but it's not what I'd have called him and I wish 19 year old me was brave enough to stand up for myself.

I always think it’s a shame when people are talked out of being who they are by their family and ‘friends’ everything must be beige and boring and normal or the kid will get bullied in school... bullshit

Kids don’t get bullied because of their names, that is merely one vessel commonly used, kids get bullied because some kids have a shit homelife and take it out at school.
The most popular girl in my primary school has massive strawberry birthmarks covering her face and was so pale skinned she was practically albino! Her parents were probably terrified before she started

I know children and grown ups with many of the names on here
Persephone
Cocoa
Aramenta (minty)
Saffron
Jam
Theadora
Rowena
Cosmo
Sol (solly)
Hester
Aurora

Name your child as your heart leads you, if you are creating big boots for them to fill, great, build them up to fill them comfortably

I love the name Xanthe. DH has vetoed it. I think it means golden & we are both dark-haired so muggtbhqve been a bit weird anyway. But if DH changes his mind I'll totally go for it

happytobemrsg · 05/02/2018 22:55

*might have been a bit weird

Joskar · 05/02/2018 23:04

Sorrel. Never thought of it for my first two pregnancies and third time round I was really thinking on it. We had a boy though.

BaronessBomburst · 05/02/2018 23:07

Spitfire. It goes fabulously with our surname, but although DH and I joked about using it we both know it was batshit really.

okilydokily · 05/02/2018 23:17

Casimir
Clementine
Ramona
Soraya
Regina
Stella
Gabriel

MsJuniper · 05/02/2018 23:24

@goldentriangle and @Shockers I am another Lettice fan! Also know one in real life.

@Jins Kester was the only boys name I liked for this pregnancy and DH vetoed - luckily it's a girl (although not called Lettice)

bebealpha · 06/02/2018 00:32

Thady (Thaddeus) and tallulah.

MissDollyMix · 06/02/2018 07:05

Lola. I loved it when I was pregnant but didn’t even bother mentioning it to DH as he’s quite ‘traditional’ in his choices and I could just imagine our families whispering behind our backs about it so I never went there. Fast forward 4 years and Lola would have suited her so well. Mentioned this to DH who agreed and asked me why on Earth I’d never mentioned it when I was pregnant as he really liked it. Doh!!

I agree! Kids are pretty accepting of most names. If any, it's silly teasing with names like Will->Willy or Smellie Ellie, but most names on this thread are proper names, they're just not so common!

Clickncollect · 06/02/2018 09:29

Hercules - I just love the name!
Presley - my Dad was a huge Elvis fan and he would have loved the tribute to The King. DS was 6 months when my Dad died so he would have got to use the name.

Onetimeonstartrek · 06/02/2018 09:34

Echoing Herrena and Pipilang, I have a 2nd cousin with a name I really can't post here because I have never heard of it anywhere else. I once asked a teacher how to spell it and she couldn't compute, kept asking me if I meant [common name a bit similar] instead. His mum was young and I think quite troubled, but she stuck to her guns, raised him really well and with support from fam, he is a really happy and confident man now, and happily she is also a total boss of life. None of this was apparent to me as a kid, I thought it was really weird my teacher didn't know what I was on about, ha!

Raisinbrain · 06/02/2018 09:35

Julian

Onetimeonstartrek · 06/02/2018 09:37

And as pippilang says. My fore and surnames were fairly common, not rhyming with anything obvious. Kids found something to just add on to the end of it vaguely related to my surname theme. If they're gonna do it, they will find a way.

Iwasjustabouttosaythat · 06/02/2018 09:44

For girls Furiosa and Ripley. Mostly because DP said no.

Algernon for a boy.

Rogue is really growing on me now, though I too enjoyed the thread about it the other day. Is she here? I think she should go with it!

loveablether · 06/02/2018 10:18

Flora - beautiful but too margeriny

ArgosTheDog · 06/02/2018 10:19

Paddington

ArgosTheDog · 06/02/2018 10:21

@Raisinbrain julian? I'd have thought that was a pretty common/ordinary name...Confused
