'Chavvy' name.

So for baby no 1 we considered Caleb, however we had a beautiful girl instead. Was considering Caleb again for baby number 2 but saw a post the other day where someone referred to it as a 'chavvy' name 'like Kayden and Jayden' (their words not mine) do people agree with this comment?! I see it as a biblical name (and the singer from Kings of Leon, actually)
Other contender is Rafferty. Middle name will be James.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Thetruthfairy · 11/08/2017 21:22

Nope. Not at all.

greendale17 · 11/08/2017 21:23

Yep it is chavvy

horsesforcorses · 11/08/2017 21:23

I don't think it is with a C.

sororitynoise · 11/08/2017 21:24

Rafferty is MUCH better.

NoCapes · 11/08/2017 21:25

In essence it's not, it's a biblical name
However - it is very popular with a lot of chavs and it is becoming lumped in with the kayden/kaylen/kaben etc names
So I would probably avoid

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 11/08/2017 21:28

Yes. Its the epitome of chavvy.
Sorry, but you did ask

Madeyemoodysmum · 11/08/2017 21:29

Rafferry is really commen here. South east.
Kaleb isn't chavvy here yet

Awandinmypocket · 11/08/2017 21:30

Yes I did ask, that is the whole purpose of this thread🤔

Thanks ladies, it's officially off the table, genuinely never occurred to me as the only Caleb I have ever met came from a very middle class family! Glad I asked the question.

Rafferty James it is.

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 11/08/2017 21:30

Caleb sounds very biblical. Makes me think of 7 brides for 7 brothers Smile

horsesforcorses · 11/08/2017 21:31

Rafferty is horrible (sorry!) Caleb is much better.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 11/08/2017 21:33

Caleb James is lovely !

LynetteScavo · 11/08/2017 21:36

Caleb with a C is perfectly lovely.

redfairy · 11/08/2017 21:36

please dont do Caleb with a K though!

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 11/08/2017 21:36

We chose a name with Persian (but non-religious) heritage and were told by a relative that it was a "trailer trash" name! You can't please everyone OP, just pick the one that suits him best!

Awandinmypocket · 11/08/2017 21:37

Oh goodness Caleb with a K would never cross my mind!!😱

OP posts:
PearlyPinkNails · 11/08/2017 21:37

Not directed at you OP but isn't chavvy a horrid way to deceive people?

I like Caleb and Rafferty.

Enidblyton1 · 11/08/2017 21:38

Since when was Caleb 'chavvy'??!
It isn't around here...

EmmyInTheSticks · 11/08/2017 21:40

I think it's a bit like this generation's Callum.

It's used be chavs yes but a god mix of all types too so I think useable. I like it.

Awandinmypocket · 11/08/2017 21:41

Yeah it really is! And people are so judgemental-I wish I was the kind of person who didn't care about other people's opinions but, alas, I do!
I literally got one negative comment about my daughter's name (it wasn't even that negative it was just 'really?! Oh I know a few of those') and it played on my mind for months and months. That's why I'm asking for opinions from people I don't know in the hope I won't take it so personally lol

OP posts:
Glossolalia · 11/08/2017 21:42

How is referring to a name as gabby 'deceiving' people?! Confused

Glossolalia · 11/08/2017 21:42

Rafferty is lovely, IMO

Awandinmypocket · 11/08/2017 21:42

I think she meant 'describe' and it was autocorrected

OP posts:
underneaththeash · 11/08/2017 21:44

I don't know a child called Caleb, however I'd stick with the traditional spelling and I didn't see it tattooed on anyone's neck or arm at Legoland last week so you're probably safe.

I'd steer clear or any alternative spellings....Kay-lebb?

FlappyRose · 11/08/2017 21:44

Caleb is a lovely name. I don't think it's chavvy at all.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 11/08/2017 21:44

I think Rafferty's awful and Caleb's OK - not my favourite, but certainly doesn't sound 'chavvy' (ugh, horrible word) to me.
