So for baby no 1 we considered Caleb, however we had a beautiful girl instead. Was considering Caleb again for baby number 2 but saw a post the other day where someone referred to it as a 'chavvy' name 'like Kayden and Jayden' (their words not mine) do people agree with this comment?! I see it as a biblical name (and the singer from Kings of Leon, actually)
Other contender is Rafferty. Middle name will be James.

A little bit, sorry. Also not keen on Rafferty though, probably because its such a common surname here.

TurquoiseOwl · 11/08/2017 21:48

Well, Jadon is also biblical...

I like Caleb, I hate Rafferty - awful name.

Glossolalia · 11/08/2017 21:51

Awand oh that makes more sense! I had an auto correct in mine too

ShotsFired · 11/08/2017 22:00

Rafferty is try hard and quite poncey, and always makes me think the person just heard Jude Law call his son that and copied him.

SuperBeagle · 11/08/2017 22:04

Definitely wouldn't be considered a "chavvy" name where I live (not in the UK). Biblical name with a sweet meaning.

JollyNot · 11/08/2017 22:07

Caleb is most certainly not chavvy! Just don't pronounce it Kay-lub, it's Kay-Leb!

Awandinmypocket · 11/08/2017 22:07

Had no idea it was Jude Law's sons name.
The more negative comments I get about Rafferty the more I realise I really like it and I'm not too bothered by them. I quite like Poncey names clearly😂
Thanks for the honesty ladies, think we need to go with our gut on this one.

The only Caleb I know is one of my finalists, and he's deeply UMC, with vaguely tweedy country architect parents.

Awandinmypocket · 11/08/2017 22:08

Glad Caleb isn't getting a flat out negative reaction though-I have always pronounced it Cay-leb

But it's a bit embarrassing if you're not posh to have a posh kids name. Maybe you are posh though, I don't know.

Farmerswife4life1984 · 11/08/2017 22:10

Rafferty is awful . Much prefer Caleb

Awandinmypocket · 11/08/2017 22:12

How do you know I'm not posh? What do you define as posh?
So if I'm posh go with Rafferty and if I'm a chav go with Caleb? I'll keep that in mind.

BramblyHedgeHog · 11/08/2017 22:14

The description chavvy is awful. Snobbery.

Caleb is a nice name.

AccrualIntentions · 11/08/2017 22:15

I don't think of Caleb as being at all similar to the other examples. Rafferty is much too posh for me, but I do live up North Smile

flouncybeetroot · 11/08/2017 22:18

I think Caleb depends on the circles you mix in, if you're churchy, then Caleb will be seen as biblical, if you're anywhere near 'chavvy' it could be taken that way, sorry.

RedStripeLassi · 11/08/2017 22:19

Caleb is a lovely solid name. Dd has two Caleb friends.

I hate how names get classed as chavvy or not Sad

MoonPower · 11/08/2017 22:20

So Rafferty just sounds like an Irish name to me. I know nothing about Jude Law.
Caleb sounds a bit American to me for some reason Hmm

What about Issac? Fintan? Finley? Raphael?

SomeOtherFuckers · 11/08/2017 22:21

Caleb is a beautiful name!

SomeOtherFuckers · 11/08/2017 22:22

Rafferty? Really?

Awandinmypocket · 11/08/2017 22:23

Unfortunately I work in an all boys behavioural school and teach both an Isaac and a Finely so they are both no goers. Not sure about Raphael but like that we could still use Rafe. One to mention to OH.

DressedCrab · 11/08/2017 22:23

Caleb is a Biblical name. Not at all chavvy. Rafferty is though.

Awandinmypocket · 11/08/2017 22:23

Yup Rafferty-really!

RedStripeLassi · 11/08/2017 22:24

Forgot to say raffety is lovely too but a bit too posh for me Grin.

Awandinmypocket · 11/08/2017 22:25

Rafferty is chavvy?
So far it's too posh, too try hard, too poncey, too celeb and now chavvy.
I think this thread is making me realise everyone has very different opinions on name categories.

LoyaltyAndLobster · 11/08/2017 22:25

Caleb is fine.

Nothing like "Jayden & Kayden"
