Hello All,
I’m a newbie to Mums net.
My husband is absolutely adamant he wants our daughter to be called Everdeen, he loves the name. I’m a little less sure, I can’t find any evidence of it being even a name or being used as a name. What do people think? Is it crazy to pick a name that has been made up?
Thanks for your help 

ziggy, I think the op is set on using Rose as it's a family name.

ErrolTheDragon · 27/06/2017 13:24

Rose is beautiful, and timeless.

ziggy1986 · 27/06/2017 14:10

It's nice for a middle name. It's dull as a first name.

Everly Rose beautiful

usernamenonumber · 27/06/2017 14:16

Everyone in the current generation of baby girls has Rose for a middle name, unless they have May.

Unadon · 27/06/2017 14:18

I think Everly Rose is great.

Everly Rose
Then her siblings could be the Everly brothers.

If you love Jimi Hendrix or David Bowie so much, change your own name to Hendrix or Bowie, introduce yourself to some colleagues that way and see how you like it.Not fair (imo) to burden a child with it as they don't have a say

This should be on a sticky at the top of the baby name board.

Some parents to be are so egotistical they cannot see their child as a person on their own right, who will have their own personality and views . It's just an opportunity to make a statement about THEMSELVES to show how clever / cool / yoonique they are.

Unadon · 27/06/2017 14:43

C0RAL Exactly. I know someone who was named after Gene Simmons. He does not like KISS in the least bit and is looking to legally change his name.

Hotpinkangel19 · 27/06/2017 21:52

Everdeen is awful, sorry. Think Everly is not nice either.

Joeybee · 28/06/2017 21:33

Everdeen sounds awful. It sounds like the name of a council estate or nursing home or psychiatric facility! Not a persons name. Just no!
Can he not compromise for something like Emily or Everley or Eden?

HeteronormativeHaybales · 28/06/2017 21:50

I'm a bit bemused at the love for Everly. It sounds, as a girl's forename, made up, and yy to Everly brothers. It's better than Everdeen, but that's prtety much its only virtue. And ti's far too similar-sounding to Emily.

How about Elena (or Eleanor), Elodie (also a bit close to Emily though, in sound and rhythm) or simply Eve? Not an E name, but with a similar vibe IMO - Leonie - madly popular over here in Germany, but unusual in the UK and quite pretty.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 28/06/2017 21:51

Argh, can't type.

MacarenaFerreiro · 28/06/2017 21:52

Everdeen is awful.

Evangelina, Emmeline, Evelyn much, much better.

FartnissEverbeans · 29/06/2017 21:10

Everdene is also the surname of Bathsheba from Far from the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy. Most people will associate it with Hunger Games though.

I actually see the appeal, it's a pretty word, but the Hunger Games connection would really, really put me off. It would make you sound like superfans.

How about a variation on it - Everly? Ever?

FartnissEverbeans · 29/06/2017 21:12

Just remembered my username is a hilarious pun on the name of the Hunger Games character so that should give you an idea of how well known it is I suppose! Grin
