Hello All,
I’m a newbie to Mums net.
My husband is absolutely adamant he wants our daughter to be called Everdeen, he loves the name. I’m a little less sure, I can’t find any evidence of it being even a name or being used as a name. What do people think? Is it crazy to pick a name that has been made up?
Thanks for your help 

But if it's nothing to do with the Hunger Games, where has he got the name from?

Rioja123 · 26/06/2017 11:04

Evie?

BubblesBuddy · 26/06/2017 11:10

It sounds like Evergreen! It would be a No from me.

Evelyn, Evie, Evadne, Evelina, Evita, Evonne, Evaleen, Eve, Eviana, Evia.

Hope there is a better name among the above!

ColourfulOrangex · 26/06/2017 11:15

I just hear evergreen sorry OP

How long have you got to decide?

TaggieRR · 26/06/2017 11:17

I have never heard of it except from HG.

LauraMipsum · 26/06/2017 11:18

Oooh not Everdeen, it's not even a first name in Hunger Games and does sound a bit like an air freshener for those who haven't read HG.

If it's the Ev- sound you like, there's a whole list here, how about one of these? www.babynamewizard.com/baby-name/girl/ev

Eva Eva Marie Eva-Lynn Evabelle Evadne Evalee Evaleigh Evalie Evalina Evaline Evalinn Evalyn Evalynn Evalynne Evan Evaña Evandra Evanee Evanesca Evangalista Evangelia Evangelica Evangelina Evangeline Evangelique Evangelynn Evania Evann Evanna Evanne Evanora
Evanthe Evanthia Evany Evarista Evdokia Evdokiya Evdoxia Eve Eve-Marie Evedene Eveleen Evelia Evelien Evelin Evelina Eveline Eveling Evelyn Evelyne Evelynn Evelynne Evening Ever Everallin Everest Everett Everild Everine Everita Everle

SoupDragon · 26/06/2017 11:18

It's awful.

IHeartDodo · 26/06/2017 11:31

Ooh evangeline is lovely!
Everdeen is dreadful, sounds like a place.

JennyOnAPlate · 26/06/2017 11:34

God no. It's obviously from hunger games.

I know an evennah (clearly a made up name but better than everdeen!)

Peckwater · 26/06/2017 11:34

Even if you don't know the HG character, it sounds vaguely Country and Western. I imagine an Everdeen wearing a frilly gingham blouse and Stetson, and going to line dancing classes.

EBoyd88 · 26/06/2017 11:54

I have 10 weeks left, so still time just finding it a very stressful decision. Nothing is jumping out.

Evony (like Ebony) or Ever are quite nice.

Celestia26 · 26/06/2017 12:12

How about Eden? It incorporates both sounds, and is a lovely name. Otherwise you're looking at more popular variations such as Eva, Evelyn etc.

AssassinatedBeauty · 26/06/2017 12:15

If it helps you have a fair amount of time after the birth to register the baby so don't get too stressed yet! I think it's 6 weeks irc.

HoratioNightboy · 26/06/2017 12:33

If it was spelt Everdine it could probably pass for a name, as it's no worse than the likes of Ementine, Geraldine, etc. But this spelling seems to be direct from the character, so it seems odd you saying it has nothing to do with it.

If you like the name then use it, but maybe adapt it a little?

usernamenonumber · 26/06/2017 12:38

It made me think of Bathsheba Everdene in 'Far From The Madding Crowd'.

bridgetreilly · 26/06/2017 13:19

No. Because while you may not be thinking of the Hunger Games, everyone else will be.

Unadon · 26/06/2017 13:23

Everdeen either brings to mind the Hunger Games character or the asset management company, Aberdeen. For something with the "ev" sound, I'd say Evangeline or Evelyne perhaps?

allegretto · 26/06/2017 13:24

Me too!

ziggy1986 · 26/06/2017 13:25

I think Everly is lovely.

EBoyd88 · 26/06/2017 13:36

Thank You for all your help everyone, really enjoying reading the suggestions : ) its really helping me get some ideas.
Just out of curiosity, why the negativity towards movie related names?

Me too and I quite like it Smile

Unadon · 26/06/2017 13:47

It's not so much movie-related names that's the problem but, in my case at least, how I feel about said movie character. I dislike the Hunger Games and Jennifer Lawrence so I personally wouldn't go with anything related to that.
