Hello All,
I’m a newbie to Mums net.
My husband is absolutely adamant he wants our daughter to be called Everdeen, he loves the name. I’m a little less sure, I can’t find any evidence of it being even a name or being used as a name. What do people think? Is it crazy to pick a name that has been made up?
Thanks for your help 

I don't like any names which borrow heavily from popular culture, whether that be Jordan or Hendrix. It's because they tend to be a reflection of the parents' taste, like they're making a big show of the movies / musicians / models they love, which isn't really fair as the child may not want to emulate or celebrate that particular sleb / movie in any way.

Classic names are different, as they aren't so obviously associated with the movie, so it's easier for the child to make it their own.

Popular culture names also tend to date a person.

is Everdene a preferred spelling?

I like the spelling of Everdene better. She could shorten it to Deanie if she liked. (Judy Blume fan here Grin )

ErrolTheDragon · 26/06/2017 15:38

is Everdene a preferred spelling?

Yes, for a holiday cottage.

ShmooBooMoo · 26/06/2017 15:41

I'd veto that! No way would I call a child Everdeen.

Out2pasture · 26/06/2017 15:45

My gd is named EVERLY

ShmooBooMoo · 26/06/2017 15:46

How about Evaline? Sounds as similar as you can get without actually being Everdeen, and is actually a girls' name!

TheFaerieQueene · 26/06/2017 15:57

Errol Grin

RomulanBattleBagel · 26/06/2017 16:01

I have a female friend called Dene, how about that as a middle name and something like Evelyn as a first name

usernamenonumber · 26/06/2017 16:04

The world has more than enough little Evies.
Call her Bathsheba, that'll be different. Grin

Pennywhistle · 26/06/2017 16:06

I also thought of Bathsheba Everdene, and it's not a wholly positive association tbh.

AmyGardner · 26/06/2017 16:07

I actually quite like the sound of it, if you go with Everdine. You will be giving your child a 100% made up name though, so it depends if you're alright with that.

claritytobeclear · 26/06/2017 16:10

Eva Dene - with Dene as middle name?

claritytobeclear · 26/06/2017 16:10

Or Heather Dene?

chumpchange · 26/06/2017 16:12

There's an Everdean in Reception at our school. Have only seen the name on class lists though so not sure if it's a boy or a girl.

Sophronia · 26/06/2017 16:14

Evandra
Evanna
Evangelie
Evren
Evarista
Evadne
Eveleen
Evelina
Everild
Everilda
Evette

claritytobeclear · 26/06/2017 16:17

Or Eva Diane?

usernamenonumber · 26/06/2017 16:18

You missed out Everard, Sophronia.

Redsippycup · 26/06/2017 16:19

Eva Dean or Eva-Dene makes the best of a bad job in my opinion.

At least it is an actual recognised name that she can use with or without the second part depending on her preferance - after all, she is the one that has to live with it for the rest of her life.

Etihad · 26/06/2017 16:33

Not sure about Everdeen. We have an Emmeline which has a similar pattern to it.

We also seriously considered Evangeline as suggested up thread.

Everdene is a nicer spelling imo if you did go for it.

flibberdee · 26/06/2017 16:40

I love Everly and Evoni/Evony

EBoyd88 · 26/06/2017 16:42

I really love Everly, if my name wasn't Emily this would be a winner.
Middle name I've chosen is Rose -its a family name.

OP posts:
AnneOfCleavage · 26/06/2017 16:45

How about Everly-Rose then your name wouldn't sound so much like hers??

ILookedintheWater · 26/06/2017 16:48

Everdeen sounds like a 1970s housing estate.
Sorry to OPs DH.
