anything hyphenated May or worse Mae (to be different)

BusterGonad · 03/03/2017 17:19

I'm not keen on Elliott for a boy, or girl tbh.

Picklesandpies · 03/03/2017 17:26

I saw Matilda spelt 'Matylda' the other day Confused

BusterGonad · 03/03/2017 19:24

My name, my husbands name and my sons name have been mentioned! My husbands name isn't very common, and it's lovely, my name is not very common but isn't unusual iyswim and my sons name is quite traditional. I'm not offended though as everyone has different taste but luckily our names are not trendy and will always be classed as nice proper names. Grin

LexieLulu · 03/03/2017 19:34

My daughters name is Alice, this has been mentioned as the person relates it to yellow and bitter. I've never heard that - but the amount of "who the f*ck is Alice" I've heard... Grin

I don't actually care about the song, I really fell in love with the name.

Everyone has different tastes, people shouldn't get offended! If we all liked the name Bob the world would be a very boring place

PS - love the name bob Wink

lemonzest123 · 03/03/2017 19:40

Albie.

BusterGonad · 03/03/2017 19:40

I agree Lexi I actually really like my own name and as a family our names sound lovely together, also I think the name Alice is a really cute name, I have a friend called Alice and it really suits her.

Roseandbee · 03/03/2017 20:17

Jonty

theresamustgo · 03/03/2017 20:24

Yes Jonty, and Bunty, as well as Bunny.

KERALA1 · 03/03/2017 23:49

Realised what makes my toes curl. Extremely posh kids who make up nicknames for each other that end in "s" "Elles, bells, etc

DonkeyofDoom · 04/03/2017 00:08

Edwin, Hector and any nickname used as a full name.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 04/03/2017 00:42

Also: Polly, Nigel, Steven, Pat.

mathanxiety · 04/03/2017 02:32

YYY, KERALA. Me too.

The impact of the article on racist attitudes to names is imo somewhat diminished by the casual mention of Polish jokes.

enchantmentandlove · 04/03/2017 02:55

It's really interesting to see how tastes differ. I haven't seen mine, dh's or dd's name here (although I did skip a few pages so they may be), but wouldn't be offended if I did.

For me, it's - Keith, Dexter and Riley.

altik · 04/03/2017 11:36

Can I call bingo!

Both my daughters' names are on here. One is listed once and the other twice (once as being too safe / boring) but also listed as a name someone likes.

My husband's, mother's and brother's names are also on here, but I'm amazed that my name isn't. It really is truly awful and I refuse to be known by it.

But I'm not offended, we all have different views and opinions...

My personal choices would be pretentious names (using particularly posh names when the people are not that posh). I like in a m/c area and see them all the time. You know the ones that get picked out as being very posh.... yep, I probably know a child with that name. Grin

I don't like harsh or very masculine names for a girl, but equally dislike very flowery names too. Hate names with /EE/ie endings without an alternative. They can sound very little girlie, so I personally like an alternative if the child chooses that.

I also dislike harsh sounding old fashioned names like Enid (my nan's name), Geoffrey and Agatha. I have known children with these names. I'm sure their parents love them (and quite possibly hate my DCs names) but they're not my taste.

With many others, I also dislike overly popular names and names with different spellings. I'm also not keen on non names for names, like Blue for example.

However, many of the names on this thread I love, including...

Elizabeth
Kai
Edwin
Pippa
Elliott

There were more I just can't remember them. I have to say I know Kai is not liked on here, but I love it - always makes me think of the philosopher! So perhaps I have different connotations.

smashyourglasses · 04/03/2017 11:45

Names from the US deep south when you're living in a UK suburb outside Norwich etc ConfusedGrin

tigerdriverII · 05/03/2017 10:58

Thank you for sharing that article MrsMeeseeks

Surprised no one's had a go at you about it, though, what with this goady thread being lighthearted and all that Hmm

JonesyAndTheSalad · 05/03/2017 13:04

Snmash like what!? Grin

Dixiestamp · 11/03/2017 12:19

I know this was days ago but I've just remembered the name that makes me go 'eew'- Isabeau. I don't know why; I like Isabel, heck, I haven't even got anything against Beau. But together? Just no.

NotaSnowflake · 28/03/2017 20:30

Lexi My daughter is 'Mackenzie Amelia Grace' and it suits her down to the ground. I adore her name. It wasn't to be different. I wanted a traditional name but just loved Mackenzie & it stuck in my head. She's Kenzie & I cannot imagine her being anything else. I don't give a toss whether anyone thinks it's chavvy or pink with white spots! 👍🏻 She gets plenty of compliments of how beautiful her name is & much it suits her 😊😍

Kazzawazza69 · 28/03/2017 20:58

A name I've never come across in real life but seems to get suggested a lot on here...

buttercup54321 · 28/03/2017 21:53

Humphrey
Percy
Montgomery
Toyah
Ethel
Agatha

Cellardoor23 · 29/03/2017 00:11

My DS's name has been mentioned numerous times. I'm just waiting for his middle name to be mentioned! Although it is a classic, old name. It's barely in the top 500.

I did consider using it as a first name but I wasn't confident enough.
