Names you hate!

Skyler30 · 05/08/2016 15:18

First born is due in Dec (gender not known) and dh and I are pondering over names and he's suggested a few now that I absolutely hate - only because I know or knew somebody with that name and they were complete and utter shit heads!

They were every day names, nothing daft like Apple or Tiger Lilly but once associated with a past prize twat!! I go right off it!

Anyone else had this?

The Le-a story has been doing the rounds for years

The number of times it turns up on these threads it would be in the top 250 at least!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 07/08/2016 13:03

The most normal names I really dislike are Michael, Vanessa, Veronica.

I quite like the old names revival but can't bear Arthur, Sidney or Stanley.

And as a pp like Tom but dislike Thomas.

MaryDoloresOHoolihan · 07/08/2016 13:05

I think George is a really ugly name.

BerriesandLeaves · 07/08/2016 13:07

Whenever people say they've never met a nice ... on these threads i always know nice people with that name.

flumpybear · 07/08/2016 13:11

Old fashioned names are horrible like Martha, Archie, Ethel, Doris, Herbert etc I also irrationally hate Jessica, Duncan, Jennifer and any 'k' or 'j' new name Kai, Jayden, kaydan etc

EDisFunny · 07/08/2016 13:21

Ruth/Ruthie is just a horrible name, so ugly. I also hate Rowan, whether for a girl or a boy.

roseteapot101 · 07/08/2016 13:33

i guess i dont like the name's

bert
larry
ethal(makes me think of that alice cooper song)

fussychica · 07/08/2016 14:00

No one has nmentioned Stuart/Stewart - how awfull being called Stew.
My name hasn't been mentioned -too old but not old enough to be back in fashion. I'm very happy with it.
I still love my son's name and it's not been mentioned on here.--so far anywaySmile

KERALA1 · 07/08/2016 14:31

I am mean about names - in my head only and anonymously on here.

Top 10 names - just dull and tired of hearing them. Faddish. There are lots of nice names why do people all choose the same ones? Plus DDs friendship group all essentially have the same name which gets confusing.

Also with my feminist hat on I dont like soppy girls names - Honey, Poppy, Maisie. Not strong enough - your dd might become a judge or whatever and being called Poppy would be weird then surely?

Also unfairly dislike the name Beth. And have never met a nice Jacqui/Jackie so I shudder when I meet one. All evil.

marblestatue · 07/08/2016 17:03

The "middle aged" sounding names are out of fashion but will be back as "granny/grandad chic" in 20 years or so Grin

OvariesForgotHerPassword · 07/08/2016 17:11

The la-a and "female" story always appears on these threads, always posted by someone who claims to be a midwife/nurse who has met this child first hand.

Poor child must be sick a lot if she visits so many hospitals across the world. God knows how she managed to be born in so many different hospitals too.

My name has been mentioned Grin very American so very hated. Ooh and middle name is Leigh too! It's not hyphenated though, do I win points back for that?

autumnmoon · 07/08/2016 23:49

I have an irrational dislike of these names...

Natasha
Natalie
Charlotte
Noah

I'm sure there are lots more....

cornishglos · 08/08/2016 00:04

Molly (and other flippy floppy silly dolly names)
Tabitha

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 08/08/2016 00:19

Alison
Thea

Jaguarana · 08/08/2016 00:27

Totally agree about Thea and Tabitha.

They seem to be MN favourites, but I can't stand them.

doubleristretto · 08/08/2016 00:47

Victorian maids names, Molly, Matilda/Tilly, Eliza/Liza and the like. The ubiquitous Jacob/Jack and celtic themed names (of of context) Connor, Callum etc. Names that make you try hard not to judge, Jayden, Kayley etc.

BerriesandLeaves · 08/08/2016 00:55

It's funny how just one letter can change a dated name to a modern name.

Barry / Harry
Bryan / Ryan
Ian / Kian
Gilly / Lilly

BerriesandLeaves · 08/08/2016 00:57

Or should I say a name that's popular now.

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 08/08/2016 01:07

I hate a lot of very popular boys names.

Samuel, Daniel, George etc. aren't classics, they're dull.

Toby, Theo, Louis etc. are 'wet'

The only girls names I don't like are ones hyphenated with Mae/Leigh/Rae etc.

But then I like surnames as first names so what do I know. Smile

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 08/08/2016 01:08

Beryl
Annette
Reagan
Teagan
Ella
Alfie

altik · 08/08/2016 01:09

Hmm, as a teacher this is probably not the best thread for me Grin.

For girls I really hate overly feminine / flowery / little girly names. With -ie/y endings and nothing strong in them. Often they're the 19th century maid names too.

However, on the other hand, I'm not keen on overly masculine girls' names either like Jackie or Georgia for example.

For boys I don't like really modern / trendy names. The following are often naughty boys, whom the parents like to refer to as "characters". They're not, they're just naughty Grin.

Rory, Connor, Callum, Mitchell, Harrison, Finley, Jackson, Charlie (not Charles) and so on...

BerriesandLeaves · 08/08/2016 01:51

What are naughty girl names?

LucyBabs · 08/08/2016 02:21

I regret giving my dd may as a middle name.. however she is 8 this year and the May/Mae trend hadn't kicked off then. She has May as a middle name because my Nana's name is May and she had recently died. Bollox Sad

What boils my piss is the name Conor being spelt Connor.. Connor is how the surname O'Connor is spelt

Porcupinetree · 08/08/2016 08:32

18sum314 - I'm constantly nauseous Grin

Ashley - horrid for male or female
