Wanted: girls name. Must be fabulous.

Why am I pregnant again ffs? Stupid Catholic upbringing. My body will an unsalvageable wreck and we will be living in penury for the next two decades.

Anyway. Need a girls name. I am utterly devoid of inspiration, being interested only in grab bags of Skips and having naps.

Already have an Agnes and an Enid. Surname Stephens.

Dislike: frilliness; 'ah' endings; 'classic' names.

Like: fabulous names. I was keen on Ramona the last go-round, but think I might have lost my love for it.

Any suggestions?

I'd like to know what North London names are too (am in North London).

Mamiof3 · 28/05/2015 15:31

I might be wrong but isn't a 'North London name' typically something like Otto, Ludo, Sid, Elsie, Sonny, Milo, Bea, Arthur, Arlo, Monty, Mabel, Iris, anything sort of posh with a hip yet old person ish vibe??!

CrystalMcPistol · 28/05/2015 15:44

Yes.

Like Enid and Agnes.

Mamiof3 · 28/05/2015 16:02

OP have you considered any names
recently??!

Scandinavian names might have the sound you're looking for:

What about Margaret, Anita, Maude, Marta, Ingrid, Hilda or Hilde, Malin, Ursa, Birgitte, Britte or Britta, Ruth,
Rita, Inge, Mathilde, Sigrid, Saga, Greta, Ida, Sybil, Mona, Tova or Tove, Ina, Ulrica or Ulrike, Gerda, Vera, Renata

Non Scandi ideas are Anouk, Vida, Claude, Edna, Annette, Lou, Dorcas, Adelaide, Dana or Dina, Avril, Selah, June, Yannick, Beulah, Inez, Odette, Lucrece, Peta, Golde or Golda

QueenQueenie · 28/05/2015 16:43

You've reminded me of my long held love of Ursula, Dorcas and Una...

Mamiof3 · 28/05/2015 17:07

I have always loved Rita and Una! Never been brave enough to use them ! I do have a Mary though despite people saying it's horrendous and old lady

cosmicglittergirl · 28/05/2015 18:02

I have an Iris. Blush
I have confirmed to type.

emmalineavocado · 28/05/2015 18:10

Mamiof3 Mary is a gorgeous name, think it has a very different vibe to old lady revival names.

Mamiof3 · 28/05/2015 18:16

Aww cosmic it might be a bit North London but it's still lovely GrinFlowers

cosmicglittergirl · 28/05/2015 19:47

Thank you. Flowers I'm surprised people are rude about Mary, it's a very pretty name.

thinkofawonderfulthought · 28/05/2015 23:40

June

spaghettina · 29/05/2015 10:36

In many ways, Mary/Maria/Maryam etc is the name... I mean, if it's good enough for the mother of JC... Wink

Think it sounds plain to many people, maybe because we're used to frillier names at the moment.

Where has the OP gone Sad. All this work might be for nothing coz it looks like she has gone.

SylvaniansAtEase · 30/05/2015 12:41

OP's head exploded after post 600 on an innocent baby names thread and she promptly left to register her as Ellie Rose Grin

Ficidy · 01/06/2015 21:10

Wow, this thread is long! I haven't read it, but I did notice that you mentioned Ramona. That's on our list. Love it. Also love Lois, Arwen, Camille, Ines and Estelle.

MaureenMacnally · 14/10/2015 21:23

Well, she's here. And she's called ...drumroll> ...................................... Millie.

I'm hilarious, I know.

She's really called Marilyn Anita.

Everyone is well. And happy not to have to think about names anymore Grin
