Wanted: girls name. Must be fabulous.

Why am I pregnant again ffs? Stupid Catholic upbringing. My body will an unsalvageable wreck and we will be living in penury for the next two decades.

Anyway. Need a girls name. I am utterly devoid of inspiration, being interested only in grab bags of Skips and having naps.

Already have an Agnes and an Enid. Surname Stephens.

Dislike: frilliness; 'ah' endings; 'classic' names.

Like: fabulous names. I was keen on Ramona the last go-round, but think I might have lost my love for it.

Any suggestions?

Melanie definitely South London, but surely also Maxine (and Kim)

Arsenic · 26/05/2015 19:16

Are you just waiting for someone to suggest Vagine?

SlightlyJaded · 26/05/2015 19:23

Have we had Hilary?

No North London about it.

Or Lise? Or Elspeth?

Still don't understand what's wrong with Vita

Or Hester.

Icedfinger · 26/05/2015 19:30

Thought Tabitha but think it's a bit north London.

How about:
Ginny (too horsey maybe?)
Carina
Marion
Gillian
Esther
Freda
Jean

Marcipex · 26/05/2015 19:39

Hilda?

HumpheadWrasse · 26/05/2015 19:43

Blanche
Joan
Janet
Peggy
Merle

MaureenMacnally · 26/05/2015 19:44

Have had three messages (from different friends) who've identified me from this thread, demanding to know which part of London their names are from. Grin

What have I started?

DoristheCamel · 26/05/2015 19:55

Here are my suggestions: Hope I have not repeated too many Smile

Hamble
Wren
Ermintrude
Deliliah
Norma
Ingrid
Gillian
Winifred
Wilhemina
Kathleen
Meredith
Salome
Simone

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 26/05/2015 19:57

Tabitha Stephens? Like in Bewitched? Erm, no.

Fyi North London names are almost exactly the same as SW London names. Just chuck in a few Eloises and Evies and you're there.

nilbyname · 26/05/2015 20:01

I'm back, coming in to really plug my top names. I dived into my old girls list from last pregnant episode.

I can offer-
Magda (again, but I love it, please use it)
Jean
Jane
Samantha
Marla
Louisa (something maybe a bit too head girl about this name?)
Constance (too Puritan I think?)
Darla

I now await your feedback Grin

MaureenMacnally · 26/05/2015 20:04

Simone! I like Simone a lot.

OP posts:
HereNotThere · 26/05/2015 20:05

Dell?

It's an old name apparently

DoristheCamel · 26/05/2015 20:08

Oooh you like one of my suggestions Grin

MaureenMacnally · 26/05/2015 20:09

Magda - on list

Jean - Meh.

Jane - Meh.

Samantha - I added to list as a wildcard as do like it, but it's lost its sheen a bit. Perhaps was over-enthusiastic.

Marla - No. Don't like the 'ah' ending. Too American.

Louisa - Too prim.

Constance - Yes, too Puritan!

Darla - Too American.

Thank you nilby. I appreciate the effort. Painfully aware I am possibly the most annoying OP in the world right now.

Loving this thread... first name and middle name of one of my DDs have both cropped up...

Has anyone suggested Phyllis? (I think they might have done - sorry if so).
Ina
Ena
Dorothy (perhaps a bit too mid-Victorian for the 1900s-1920s vibe)

MaureenMacnally · 26/05/2015 20:12

I do like Simone, Doris, but it's not a go-er due to alliteration with surname. Sorry.

Volvox · 26/05/2015 20:12

There should be a naming map of London.
Not sure what to suggest - Nora/Norah maybe? Livia?

YankieDandle · 26/05/2015 20:16

wow just call your child what you like, don't be so worried about what the rest of London thinks.

So much pretentious nonsense on this thread

Icedfinger · 26/05/2015 20:16

Sorry didn't see your surname.

I think you need to make a list of any possibles then give yourself a few weeks away from looking at it then see how you feel.

Vanessa
Sally
Myrtle
Nora
Delma
Serena

Icedfinger · 26/05/2015 20:17

Ok ignore Sally and Serena due to alliteration!

nilbyname · 26/05/2015 20:18

Thanks op! I'm invested in this, I hope we all get an invite to wet the babies head.

Jean is an awesome name. But it's on it's way back. It's going to rise like scarlet/Stella did in the naughties

More names- I am loving this--

Salome
Tara
Rosalyn
Carmen (this could be all wrong, but I sort of like it)
Della
Norah (I'm not sure which side of the river this name is, but it's so London)

There is something about 'D' names that I want to like but they sound quite hard. Or is that just me?

MitzyLeFrouf · 26/05/2015 20:20

Anthea

MitzyLeFrouf · 26/05/2015 20:21

Delia

Petal7 · 26/05/2015 20:26

Jude (waiting for the obscure jokes...)
Dorothea
Araminta
Clemency
Clio
Wilhemina

FatSwan · 26/05/2015 20:28

Vita and/or Rita are my favourite (s)

I was going to suggest Odette (I effing love this name) but fear it may be in London somewhere.
