Wanted: girls name. Must be fabulous.

Why am I pregnant again ffs? Stupid Catholic upbringing. My body will an unsalvageable wreck and we will be living in penury for the next two decades.

Anyway. Need a girls name. I am utterly devoid of inspiration, being interested only in grab bags of Skips and having naps.

Already have an Agnes and an Enid. Surname Stephens.

Dislike: frilliness; 'ah' endings; 'classic' names.

Like: fabulous names. I was keen on Ramona the last go-round, but think I might have lost my love for it.

Any suggestions?

MovingOnUp no Vada as in the girl from "My Girl" - gorgeous name Grin

CeriBerry · 27/05/2015 16:31

florascotia Round where I live, in North Wales, all Enids are pronounced like that. If I saw the name Enid, I would automatically presume it "eh-nid" rather than "ee-nid"

florascotia · 27/05/2015 16:35

Thank you, Ceri, that's interesting. I think it sounds nice that way.

Vera too matchy matchy with your other names.

Matchiness v uncool.

You need something just slightly less obviously 1940's working class to keep some balance.

i would go with :

Enid, Agnes and Valerie

Enid Agnes and Julia

Enid Agnes and Frances

I particuarly like Frances. It has that simple, spare quality to it like Agnes does but without sounding too much like they're a themed child performance group about to sing Roll out the Barrels on BGT.

Grin

I think Julia is just beautiful. Elegant and slightly aloof a la Julia Flyte.

(hopefully yours will be more elegant than aloof)

Probably on the completely wrong track heading to South London, and I really haven't checked if these are repetitions, but fuck it:

Joanne
Jennifer
Lauren
Maria
Penelope/Penny
Caroline
Ruth
Ivy
Hester

Love Agatha, but probably to close to Agnes.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 27/05/2015 17:32

I used to know a Gillian Stephens when I was at school

UmiSays · 27/05/2015 17:35

Not read the whole thread but what is the whole "too North London" thing meant to mean OP?

and yes I am North London and DD has a name I just know is going to be on the OP's "too N L" list

33goingon64 · 27/05/2015 20:16

I like Audrey best of these. I know a chic French woman and a cute Chinese/British girl both called Audrey. I don't think people think of Hepburn automatically anymore.

DoristheCamel · 27/05/2015 21:40

Sian
Fern
Sorrel
Cerys

sparklingsea · 27/05/2015 21:48

Elvera

carabos · 27/05/2015 21:55

Gertrude Stephens is a fab name. Rudy for short. Love Audrey. Ethel works with Agnes and Enid, as does Norah.

TakeMeToTheMilk · 27/05/2015 22:34

Gorgeous names on here and I love Enid. It was on my list.
I know they've been suggested before but
Olive
Ivy
Bridget
are all fab names.
If my boy child had been a girl he'd have been Bess.

AlfAlf · 27/05/2015 22:49

Helen

Swishyswashy · 27/05/2015 23:06

Thurza
Fab midwife who delivered my first child. She was a very wise woman. Have always loved the name.

aoife24 · 27/05/2015 23:12

Sherezade or Hepsiba.
