Wanted: girls name. Must be fabulous.

Why am I pregnant again ffs? Stupid Catholic upbringing. My body will an unsalvageable wreck and we will be living in penury for the next two decades.

Anyway. Need a girls name. I am utterly devoid of inspiration, being interested only in grab bags of Skips and having naps.

Already have an Agnes and an Enid. Surname Stephens.

Dislike: frilliness; 'ah' endings; 'classic' names.

Like: fabulous names. I was keen on Ramona the last go-round, but think I might have lost my love for it.

Any suggestions?

You could do some good mash-ups here

Verog
Irete
Helerie
Fruge
Gloriot

Hard as nails, every one of them.

Enormouse · 26/05/2015 12:22

sylvanian Grin they're a bit Tolkien-esque.

SlightlyJaded · 26/05/2015 12:24

OP you need to shunt Vera to second place and put Vita at the top.

There will be gazillions of Vera's soon - I know two born this year.

But Vita? THAT'S a fabulous name.

BoreOfWhabylon · 26/05/2015 12:29

Ankaret. Old English version of Angharad. There was an Ankaret Le Strange in middle ages - always thought was a fabulous name.

But Vita is an entirely different class of young woman. She's the Lord's daughter that Ag and En meet at Speakers Corner or at a Workers Union meeting on their day off. She couldn't be their sister - not even spiritually.

nilbyname · 26/05/2015 12:39

ive just seen that you like flute Grin I know s flute and she is amazing!

HereNotThere · 26/05/2015 12:48

Lana

Enid, Agnes and Lana. That works

SlightlyJaded · 26/05/2015 12:51

Zero - no, you are mistaken.

Vita is often mistaken for the Lord's daughter on account of her natural elegance, beauty and confidence. In fact, she is a commoner who spends her spare time writing poetry (as per her namesake) and campaigning for Good Things.

She is also on everybody's party invitation list as she's such good fun.

SkodaLabia · 26/05/2015 12:54

Surely with Fabia you run the risk of Labia. (unless it's just me who thinks that's obvious Blush)

Have we done Sybil?

CrispyFern · 26/05/2015 12:57

I think Vera is my second favourite, after Rita.

heylilbunny · 26/05/2015 13:02

Joyce

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/05/2015 13:04

Velma has been mentioned quite a few times. If you're a Chandler fan that might appeal.

Hilary

SkodaLabia · 26/05/2015 13:29

Pascale? Or is that not horn rimmed enough?

Shame you're not Irish, there's the fabulously ball breaking Ita.

Hamble? She didn't take any shit on Playschool.

Velma? As in Scooby and Shaggy?

marshmallowpies · 26/05/2015 13:51

Ooh Una makes me think of Ursula - love that name, but I don't know if the way I pronounce it is the right way - I'd say Ur-sue-la, or is it Ur-sur-la?

If it hasn't already been mentioned, I love Bridget, but wouldn't use it due to
A) names ending in T don't go with our surname
B) Bridget Jones, much as I loved the books, has rather killed it off for me!

SkodaLabia · 26/05/2015 14:01

The Ursulas I know pronounce it Er-shuh-luh.

TheDietStartsTomorrow · 26/05/2015 14:06

Rayhana

I think it's just lovely. Pretty and fragrant whilst being unique and easy to say.

florascotia · 26/05/2015 14:10

Mary?
