Wanted: girls name. Must be fabulous.

Why am I pregnant again ffs? Stupid Catholic upbringing. My body will an unsalvageable wreck and we will be living in penury for the next two decades.

Anyway. Need a girls name. I am utterly devoid of inspiration, being interested only in grab bags of Skips and having naps.

Already have an Agnes and an Enid. Surname Stephens.

Dislike: frilliness; 'ah' endings; 'classic' names.

Like: fabulous names. I was keen on Ramona the last go-round, but think I might have lost my love for it.

Any suggestions?

Marianne - no. I only like Marian, and that's Enid's middle name, anyway.

Was in the toilets of an art gallery yesterday, and there was a little girl called Iris. I thought that was a fabulous name.

Sylvia is great, but I teach Plath a lot, and it would be weird.

Calzone, thank you, but I hate all of those. They're too North London and too sweet. Sorry!

OP posts:
MaureenMacnally · 25/05/2015 21:32

Dulcie - absolutely not.

Ava
Mabel
Edna
Heather

MaureenMacnally · 25/05/2015 21:34

I do like Maude, but I teach a poem called 'Sister Maude' to GCSE classes, and it's all about killing your entire family, so...slightly un-baby connotations for me.

MaureenMacnally · 25/05/2015 21:35

Ava - God, no.
Mabel - no. Too North London.
Edna - Too close to Enid
Heather - No flower names

I think it's a good and healthy thing for people to be able to poke fun at their own religion.

Questioning, criticism, challenging, making jokes, all fine. Pedalling inaccurate, outmoded, sexist stereotypes as 'joke' not so much. It doesn't strike me as particularly bright.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 25/05/2015 21:37

Cecily? Josephine?

Thought i'de jump in on your chat. I adore my daughters name, so much so I wanted to share;
Her name is Josephine Lily, (Josie for short).
But I also think Florence, Elenor and Evelyn are beautiful name too.
Good luck. X
