Wanted: girls name. Must be fabulous.

Why am I pregnant again ffs? Stupid Catholic upbringing. My body will an unsalvageable wreck and we will be living in penury for the next two decades.

Anyway. Need a girls name. I am utterly devoid of inspiration, being interested only in grab bags of Skips and having naps.

Already have an Agnes and an Enid. Surname Stephens.

Dislike: frilliness; 'ah' endings; 'classic' names.

Like: fabulous names. I was keen on Ramona the last go-round, but think I might have lost my love for it.

Any suggestions?

I think it's a good and healthy thing for people to be able to poke fun at their own religion.

DakotaFanny · 25/05/2015 19:20

Madeleine. Catherine.

Gloriana has always struck me as being a fabulous name.
Or Arianwen.
Astrid is amazing too.
And Esther.

MitziKinsky · 25/05/2015 19:28

Gosh, even our priest makes jokes about being Catholic, occasionally!

MitziKinsky · 25/05/2015 19:32

Gertrude

Olive

Phyllis

Josephine

Sybil

Lois

Myrtle (I love this!)

I'm 23 and having DC3
I am Catholic. I get comments from people thinking they are funny "don't you have a telly" etc. my reply? I'm a good Catholic.

nothing wrong with poking a bit of fun at it. that reply didn't amuse mil when she asked why we didn't use contraception (with DC1) but the strop she threw was worth it Grin

Marisola · 25/05/2015 19:37

"Why am I pregnant again ffs?"

Haven't you found out what's causing it yet?

Icedfinger · 25/05/2015 19:37

I think Vera is fabulous!

What about...

Martha
Magda
Penelope
Vashti
Ida

Loving this thread by the way!

Brigitta
Clodagh
Clara
Ciara
Siobhan
Matilda

marshmallowpies · 25/05/2015 19:42

Meredith and Ramona are probably what my 2 DDs would be called if I'd had my own way. As it is I got my 2nd choice name for DD1 and DD2 had to be the only single name DH and I could agree on this time round.

If it had been his choice they'd have been Samantha and Joanne I think...

Crazyqueenofthecatladies · 25/05/2015 19:51

Luff Cora and Sylvia, yes I know they're a names but they do work well with the sisters names.

VixxFace · 25/05/2015 19:55

Really awful names but here's my input as I think they are similar to agnes and Enid.

Maude
Mabel
Edna
Ethel
Greta
Gretel
Sylvie
Sybil
Blythe
Peggy
Maggie
Arwen
Bronwen
Patience

Tamar86 · 25/05/2015 19:58

We've been trying to name cats recently, and have discussed lots of the names on this thread!

FWIW our shortlist to be drawn out of a hat is now

Ida
Willa
Charmian
Myrtle
Gerda
Ethel
Silke
Dagmar
Ena

I don't know what causes the babies, Marisola. I guess it's just God's will. Sure, He wants me to be poor and never again bounce on a trampoline or sneeze on a cold morning.

I actually really like Samantha, Marshmallowpies. I'm going to add it to the list as my wildcard.

I always thought Hester was a fab name.

MaureenMacnally · 25/05/2015 20:49

Magda also on list.

Think I need to revise my earlier aggressive stance on 'ah' names. Blush

Hester is great. DP has vetoed (think he had a bad experience in A Level Eng Lit). I may or may not recognise his right to have input in this situation.

Sorry haven't got time to read through the whole thread..

But..

What about Bessie? Not short for anything, just Bessie in its own right?

Great name. My grandma's name. Her sister was Gertrude (which you like) and her surname was Stewart, so not a million miles from yours!

MaureenMacnally · 25/05/2015 20:54

our tortoise is called Bessie!

Blazing88 · 25/05/2015 20:58

hahaha no way!

Well, that's me stumped then! :D

I do love Maude too. Knew a fabulous little 4 year old called Maude. Great name!

MirandaGoshawk · 25/05/2015 20:59

Maud/Maude would go well with your other two. They have two syllables each and a one-syllable name would sound good with them IYKWIM not really relevant

MirandaGoshawk · 25/05/2015 20:59

x-post re Maud
