Sister has used my baby name

I know nobody owns a name but this was my absolute favourite boys name and I was going to call my baby due in 4 weeks this name.

We're not the closet of sisters and don't see each other often (she's a lot younger than me and we didn't grow up together) but being pregnant at the same time everytime we did see each other we would talk baby talk and she definitely knew this was my favourite baby name and I was planning on using it for my ds.

She gave birth yesterday to a lovely little boy and this morning she did a facebook announcement introducing 'Dylan James' DJ for short.... I'm really upset and shocked that she would do this, why why why?

Someone did this to me. But:

She was a sister in law (already wrong about everything ever anyway)
AND
She also spelt name wrongly, in a tiresome, yoonique, "I'll be different" way

I killed her*

*(not really. But it was close)

Some nice names on this thread though.

imnotproud · 22/05/2015 20:11

What a mega bitch. Fuck her, pick a new secret name and pretend you always wanted it anyway. Lots to choose from here

kavv0809 · 22/05/2015 20:15

That's absolutely not on. I can't believe all the posters saying they'd be fine with it as no one owns a name. It's her sister Ffs. She could have picked any name in the world but she goes specifically for one that is going to cause upset. Have you asked her why she did this OP?

PestoSwimissimos · 22/05/2015 20:18

Turn it around OP

Choose another name, there are plenty of good suggestions on this thread.

And, whatever you choose

Will be nicer Smile

One I like is Lawrence - good luck!

HopefulHamster · 22/05/2015 20:23

Darrell?

Dillon?

Nathan is fab, I think :)

I would have to say something, just to find out why? But that's just me, probably best not to do that.

DeladionInch · 22/05/2015 20:28

What a bitch!

On a Bob theme, how about Marley?

longestlurkerever · 22/05/2015 20:30

Op that is really shitty of her. Please don't write something horrible on her wall though. It's her birth announcement and you'll lose the moral high ground completely. I agree you could call her on it privately though. I really like Henry -cute on a boy but good on a man too.

Strokethefurrywall · 22/05/2015 20:37

Nathan is way better than Dylan

AwfulBeryl · 22/05/2015 20:39

My nephew is a Dylan, it is a lovely name, not chivvy at all, but then I don't think most of the name the kh brigade hate are chavvy. My other nephew is Jake.

I think you should use it you want to, obviously you're really cross at the moment - and rightly so, but you might feel differently in a few days. Don't let her feel like you can't use your perfect name.
If you really don't want it anymore, then What about Max ? Wink
One of my little boys best friends is a Max, I like it as much as Dylan, it's pretty similar in style I think.
I also like
Rudy
Zac
Leo
Nial
Jago - I love this name, but dp hated it.

Rueban
Jude
Toby
Jaime - due a revival, I think.
Hugo
Liam

Good luck Smile

QOD · 22/05/2015 20:43

Henry is a lovely name but too popular

QOD · 22/05/2015 20:44

Imho

toldmywrath · 22/05/2015 20:54

Sorry to hear that your sister has stolen your thunder, but I really don't think you should post anything to her facebook.
Re Grayson- it's a bigno from me Wink I think of Larry Grayson (very camp) or Grayson Perry's alter ego Claire-he looks awful when he dresses as Claire.

AwfulBeryl · 22/05/2015 20:59

I agree that it's not a good idea to post on her fb profile.
I can honestly see why you're so pissed off, anyone would be.
If she wanted to use the name (which she had every right to, I know it's annoying but as pp have said - no one owns a name) the least she could have done is said btw we really love Dylan for our ds. Finding out on fb must have been horrible.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 22/05/2015 21:00

I think id have messaged "Congrats on becoming a Mum! Our Mum and Dad are going to get well confused with two Dylans in the family, good taste!"

And seen what she responded.

slithytove · 22/05/2015 21:10

Think she is really harsh, we had named our son from 20 weeks and like you, called him by the name in utero. We also had certain things personalised for him so would have been furious to have this happen.

Personally, I'd go with your chosen name. Was it just the Dylan or the full Dylan james DJ combo you wanted?

slithytove · 22/05/2015 21:15

Love preppers text as well

temperamentalamongcorvids · 22/05/2015 21:21

Actually, if he is to be known as DJ, it's not that much of a problem.

TandemFlux · 22/05/2015 23:36

Lennon is nice

Xmasbaby11 · 22/05/2015 23:45

That's awful of her. I'm not surprised you're upset.

you'll just have to choose another name. Soon enough Dylan will stop feeling like your name.

sshapplecartitisallokay · 23/05/2015 07:59

Not read the whole thread but I think it was completely off for her to use the name you had told her you were using for your son. She knows she has behaved badly too that is why she kept it quiet until the baby was born.

All this, oh what does it matter stuff from some pp is ridiculous. It clearly does matter.

I can see why you are not close to your sister.

pictish · 23/05/2015 08:06

I think it's a even bigger blow that she's going to call the child 'DJ'. Not only has she hijacked OP's intended and favourite name...she hasn't even got the good grace to fucking use it!! DJ? Fuck off!

LeonoraFlorence · 23/05/2015 08:11

This happened to my SIL. Her DD was born 12 days before her niece and her BIL and SIL called their own DD the same name. It isn't a Family name, just a run of the mill girls name (Sophia). My SIL was really upset but didn't mention it. The funny thing is, her SIL had sort of rubbished the name when it was mentioned before my niece was born! Sorry to say OP but I'd choose another name :(

500Decibels · 23/05/2015 08:14

My mum always says that a baby already has it's name. You just have to find it Smile
So your baby was always meant to have another name and I'm sure you'll find it soon.
I think that's just a nice way to look at it.

pictish · 23/05/2015 08:18

Honestly, I'd just use Dylan anyway.

LynetteScavo · 23/05/2015 08:20

Well, she won't have registered her baby yet, so I would maintain I was still going to call my baby Dylan, and see if she backs down.
