What are unusual names that have stood out for you in your dc's class?

There is an Alaska which makes me smile every time I hear it and a Francesca and Emma which are nice because they are names that I hardly hear on children.

Know a friend of a friend with a child called Montana!

Mammanat222 · 08/10/2014 09:55

Sorry it doesn't make me smile, it's just unusual.

Floggingmolly · 08/10/2014 09:56

Precious! (Only to her adoring mama, I can assure you).

AtrociousCircumstance · 08/10/2014 10:00

A sweet little Huxley.

Groovee · 08/10/2014 10:02

I once had a Wisdom, he was constant getting in to situations that we had to rescue him from. He certainly didn't have Wisdom.

4-5 year olds (this is in the US, where compulsory schooling starts a year later to the UK):

Winston - one of those names I'd love to be brave enough to use, it always brings a smile to my face for the right reasons.

Randy - bring a smile to my face for all the wrong reasons!

Susan - not a name I'd use, but it brings a smile, seeing it on a little girl.

And while not in DD2's (4) class, there is a boy in the 3-4 year olds named Isreal. It's a misspelling of Israel (a name that's ranked 200-something for boys in the US), and it makes me smile, as obviously it reads 'is real' which I should hope he is! Wink

burgatroyd · 08/10/2014 12:04

Tess Isreal! I actually like it.

Rainbow :)
The loveliest, sweetest little girl who always signs her name on everything with a little rainbow next to it!

UriGeller · 08/10/2014 12:28

I'm cheating a bit here, (ds's nursery class is full of Mias, Demi-Leighs and Kayden/Jaydens anyway) but there was a little boy of about 5 named Hope with his (very gorgeous and hipsterish) dad in the airport recently, That made me smile, it's such an underused name and really sweet.

sweetkitty · 08/10/2014 12:31

Goodness

lisej · 08/10/2014 13:12

There's a little girl in my son's class called Florentine. She's absolutely tiny and her parents often call her Flo. It's not a name that I would use, but it makes me smile (for the right reasons).

RiverTam · 08/10/2014 13:24

Thorin. He was as cute as a button.

BlotOnTheLandscape · 08/10/2014 13:28

My cousin has a son called Harleigh, seems like an odd misspelling to me. He's in his teens and he would prefer Harley.

HibiscusIsland · 08/10/2014 13:42

Beau-Loxley

Iggly · 08/10/2014 13:43

I love Huxley. Such an awesome name.

My kids have straight laced names, a contrast to my own.

There are some funny names in my son's class but I'm not posting on here as that would be rude.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 08/10/2014 13:48

Beau Loxley is very Gone With The Wind.

HibiscusIsland · 08/10/2014 13:57

Yes. Beau-Loxley is the first name. Not sure what the surname is as it's a child in a family member's child's nursery, rather than my own child. (Obviously I wouldn't put it on here anyway.) It's a girl.

Theas18 · 08/10/2014 13:59

Kids i dunno but I received a couple of letters at work from someone called Fortunate which just made me stop and think.

moxon · 08/10/2014 14:11

There is a plethora of Leons in the nursery up the road. I don't know why, but maybe it has to do with sandwiches.

moxon · 08/10/2014 14:15

Also, some cultures name kids with aspirational names. Things you want them to be. Happy, Engineer, Preacher, and Glorious. Grin
...
cf Baylor. Hmm

LizzieMint · 08/10/2014 14:18

Not quite the same but I had a customer once whose surname was Sunshine, I thought that was lovely. I'd love to be a Sunshine!

spiderlight · 08/10/2014 14:25

There's a little girl in the nursery at my son's school called Gin Grin

Steben · 08/10/2014 14:27

Rocky and Lolita

LadyHamiltonsPussy · 08/10/2014 14:30

Gin ShockGrin

We have a Betsy-Boo at preschool which makes me smile.

nicename · 08/10/2014 14:30

I read an autobiography where the authors brother was called Space Conqueror. It was in Maoist China though...
