Finding it really hard to pick a boys name, I've got a little boy called Louie and thinking of Jayden for this one could be shortend to J or middle name will be Joseph as that's my dads name so Jayden Joseph could also be JJ. Honest opinions please :)

I thought you must be from a WC background, Spero. That's why you attach such importance to class?

meliscent · 02/06/2014 21:57

It certainly doesn't come across as very professional (whatever her role is).

Alisvolatpropiis · 02/06/2014 21:57

Yeah I'm aware that chav is used as an insult. So is cunt.

In real life most a generally far more offended by the later than the former.

Alisvolatpropiis · 02/06/2014 21:59

Fgs. are and latter

meliscent that is an extraordinarily pompous remark

Alisvolatpropiis · 02/06/2014 22:06

I've not called anyone a chav. I've actively defended all the hypothetical Jayden's (and the two I've met who were babies but probably nice young men now) throughout this thread.

I'm just intrigued by the extra weight placed on the word chav on MN than in real life.

I'm not saying it is wrong that people are bothered by the word, I'm just interested by it.

deadwitchproject · 02/06/2014 22:09

exactly. This just doesn't make any sense to me. I've seen threads with posters telling one another to fuck off and others calling posters a cunt but on MN the word chav is more offensive Hmm

I'm intrigued too. As insults go I can think of many worse than chav.

I'd be more offended if someone used the word chav. Twat or cunt could be used lightheartedly ( you daft twat). Chav has vile connotations and is used by people who feel superior to the person they're using it about.

Oh yes that nice book written by an Oxbridge champagn socialist. Because he knows all about being working class.

That's why it's offensive, and why I'd love to see someone define it if they think otherwise.
