Finding it really hard to pick a boys name, I've got a little boy called Louie and thinking of Jayden for this one could be shortend to J or middle name will be Joseph as that's my dads name so Jayden Joseph could also be JJ. Honest opinions please :)

MC as in Mac as in McDonalds ? Or MC as in MC hammer ?

AryaOfHouseSnark · 31/05/2014 22:20

Ooooooooh yep i get it, ignore me.

Spero · 31/05/2014 22:20

usual - hence why i put it in inverted commas.

Not everyone would think it was 'better'.

But you will get judged by quite lot of people if you are called Jayden.

I am not saying that is right. I am saying it will happen. And yes, I agree it will date horribly.

Maybe if we all stopped pandering to prejudices and called our children names we liked the sound of without worrying if it sounded 'suitable' for a QC we'd have a nicer society...

momb · 31/05/2014 22:21

Jayden awful: really. too topical, made up and celebrity chasing. Joseph lovely.
JJ good: choose another J.

Spero · 31/05/2014 22:22

Who is saying that they aren't perfectly nice kids?

What's with this 'real world' ?

I live in the real world. And I know plenty of people who would act differently towards a Taneesha than they would to a Sophie

I am not saying this is right. I am saying it happens.

Isn't Will Smith's son some version of Jayden?

I have high ranking colleagues called Tracey and Darren (medicine), I'm sure if mumsnet had existed in the 70s their mums would have been warned off...

happybubblebrain · 31/05/2014 22:25

Well at least it's not a K name.

MrsBungle · 31/05/2014 22:26

I think Jayden is ok. I prefer Aidan.

JJ is a cute nickname. I know some gorgeous little boys called Jayden.

Spero · 31/05/2014 22:28

Of course they need to get over themselves and stop being so prejudiced!

But that won't happen overnight, so if you are asking for my honest opinion I would chose 'Joseph' over 'Jayden' because that isn't going to push some people's buttons.

Yes, no doubt they are narrow minded twats if they judge on a name - but sadly I think there are quite a few out there.

And 'Storm' you would probably get away with as making you the child of some bohemian hippies which they would think quite daring and cool - Jayden sadly does not have those connotations.

Thread asked for honest opinions, this is mine. This does not mean I think anyone called Jayden is scum. I try very hard to rise above my prejudice because I recognise how harmful it can be - but as I am asked to be honest, I will honestly tell you that I would form a certain view about someone called Jayden before I met him.

This doesn't make me a good person I know. But I least I am aware and I try to check myself. Not everyone will try.

MrsBungle · 31/05/2014 22:28

I know a little girl storm. Fabulous name.

SpeedwellBlue · 31/05/2014 22:29

I'm not keen but I like the name Jay.

Louie and Joseph are lovely names.

Jonty, Jerry/Jeremy & Jasper all go well with Louie and could be used with Joeseph to get JJ.

Jayden has unfortunate connotations - sorry.

I had several signs when pregnant with DD that I should call my baby Jayden.

What do you mean by 'signs' Lynette?

SanityClause · 31/05/2014 22:31

The trouble with Jayden is its very dating. It's like Dean or Darren was when I was at school.

But if you don't mind that and you like it, what does it matter.

I dislike it, but what does that matter to you? You don't even know me! FWIW, I'm not that keen on Joseph, either, which is about as classic and non-dating as they come.
